Show Me Your Diamond Studs!

Beautiful new additions ladies!

I can hardly wait to receive these!!!! They are supposed to arrive on Monday. I had initially purchased 2 stones from James Allen and was going to send them to WF to be set in the 8-prong settings. But once I contacted BGD to see if they had these settings, I was sold on their great customer service (Denise is awesome!) and was happy with the quote. And with the help of PSers, I decided to purchase the diamonds through BGD as well and I'm going to return the JA ones. The JA stones were a tad cheaper but I like having the option of BGD's upgrade policy if (when) I want to go larger in the future. Thank you mom2boys, DS, Amy's Bling, and Bosie for responding in the previous thread that I posted asking for help with that decision!!!

The first diamond is .313 ct and the other is .316 ct and they are both F SI1 Signature Ideals. Brian confirmed that they are both eye clean and honestly I'm not really that picky about them because they're earrings. Here are the links to the stones:

http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/0.316-f-si1-round-diamond-ags-104054189103

So, now on to the pics. I think they are stunning but I do have one question - do you think that the prongs look too bulky or are the photos just making them look that way? I noticed that most of the earrings on the site have the little claw prongs. Would that not be possible for these earrings because the prongs are so close together? Or maybe the little claws would look weird for these earrings, the only 8-prong studs I've seen on PS have the round-ish prongs rather than the little claws. Anyways, let me know if I'm being crazy and over-thinking the prongs!

I am very happy as I took a chance and placed my first order from blue nile for halo studs that I have been wanting to get for some time now. I contacted several vendors and could not beat the price and quality that blue nile offered especially with the 20% discount for the holidays. We drove to the beach house today and waited for delivery this AM and it arrived a short while ago. I am quite pleased with them and cannot wait to wear them! These are my very first stud earrings and I think they will become a staple in my jewelry wardrobe.

As you all know by now I am perhaps the worst photographer of jewelry ever. Part of that could be due to the fact that I only have my smartphone to use and I apologize but I guess crappy photos are better than no photos. And I promise if I ever get a camera I will retake all my photos of my jewelry!

Here's a pair of Tacori Dantela FE643 stud earrings I bought for my wife as her birthday present. I decided to get her stud earrings so she can feel comfortable wearing them every day. She watches a lot of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills lately and admires all the jewelery that the ladies wear on the show. I knew she'll like this gift.

Tacori FE643-55(mm)
18k white gold
GIA cert center stones
0.62 and 0.65 ct
EX EX EX H I1

I was a bit skeptical in buying I1 clarity diamonds but they turned out nicely. I patiently picked out two diamonds from an online site that I felt were clean. One of them did have a visible feather near the table but it disappeared in the contrast of the setting after the stone was mounted.

The occasion for the giving of these came exactly a month before Christmas ... and the giving itself occurred precisely at the halfway point between then and now ... and, well, on a lazy Monday immediately following the holiday, what better way to while away an hour than with a reveal!

So, almost exactly 9 months to the day before my baby's birth, it was my birthday, and I had my ears pierced a few more times each, something I'd been wanting to do since I was, oh, a teenager. Carpe diem! https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/for-her-birthday-circe-got.156890/ I got little graduated star studs, which I adored - there were only two little problems. First, I felt sort of OCD about the fact that I couldn't wear any of my gold jewelry without it clashing a little bit, and, second ... the damned holes just would not heal. My doctor wasn't sure if it was because I was on blood thinners for the pregnancy, or because of a metal allergy. Soooooo ... when the time came to choose a baby present, while I dithered and dithered about what to get, my husband came up with a very sensitive idea on his own: earrings I wouldn't have to fuss about! So we decided to go for graduated bezels in yellow and rose gold to go with my beloved ID Jewelry milgrained bezel studs.

My IDJ studs are 1.43 tcw, measuring 6.5 mm each. I researched and plotted kind of obsessively. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/75-to-26-to-12-for-graduated-bezel-earrings-y-n.167711/ While the place where I got the piercing done, Venus by Maria Tash, does bezeled diamonds, they're kinda pricey for what you get, and the sizes seemed like they'd be disproportionately small compared to the IDJ ones. On the other hand, Brian Gavin Diamond's preset studs? Absolutely perfect. Though they were only offering the preset studs in WG at the time, they were really wonderful about accommodating my request that the studs be done in RG and YG ... and that they have fluorescence! And the graduation, for anybody thinking along similar lines, is perfect: .75 to .25 to .12 is a perfect line, visually. So without further ado ....

My mailman (the kind who pulls up out the front with a van lol) didn't give me these.
This was an old-fashioned purchase, bought by my old-fashioned husband, for my 40th birthday, which is Monday.

Unfortunately, the photos I thought were good enough turned out pretty meh.
So, my apologies for that, I enjoy beautiful photos of lovely gems just as much as the next PSer.

Perhaps when the light is better, I will try and take some better snaps. (it's getting on in the evening around here)

for your viewing pleasure: Hearts on Fire Fulfillment earrings, 1.05 ctw, in wg

I've mentioned a few times in the past that I was craving a nice set of everyday diamond studs. I could never justify the cost, though. Then we moved across the country for my husband's job and I had to give up my job with no great prospects of getting another. Through a stroke of luck I still can't believe myself, I scored an interview two weeks after we got here and got the job! It's completely awesome, more interesting work and even better pay than what I had before. That, combined with the fact I have a significant birthday coming up (crossing one more decade line, yikes!) convinced me that I should just FINALLY go for it. So, these little beauties arrived on Friday from the always-wonderful folks at BGD!

Dear PS community, after spending some time here I have decided to get diamond studs to celebrate the birth of my baby daughter. With all the great information found here I was able to get really nice pair that fitted my budget. And a vendor that absolutely met my expectations regarding customer service and safety: Brian Gavin! They shipped my earrings 2 weeks after order placement and they safely arrived here in Berlin yesterday. (please, forgive my mistakes, as English is not my mother tongue:))

I would like to share my joy with you, my dear fellow PS ers.. And of course pictures. Though I still need to find out how to post them.

Oh very nice Manderz!! I love yellow gold :)

Do you have a thread on them?

Thank you!! I didn't make a thread for them. They were my graduation gift to myself :) I found them on eBay, and I can't remember any of the stats. I'm VERY happy with them, they're a great size, and they were exactly what I was hoping to be able to find.

Last year, thanks to Whiteflash, I was able to have four pieces of jewelries made while I was away from my US home. I must say I am very fortunate to have found Whiteflash from Pricescope. First, their ACA’s are the best. Second, their customer service is unsurpassed. There aren’t many jewelers from whom we customers can trust enough to place order for special design jewelry worry-free while being half a world away. Communication was definitely smooth.

Before I begin sharing my new jewelry pieces, I want to specially thank Chris from Sales for making these purchases possible and Joseph for his artistic and well-thought designs.

Diamond Studs –
Believe or not, I never wore earrings before. I did not get my ears pierced until last September. Before I decided which earrings to get, I asked my friend for advice. "If one can only have one pair of diamond earrings," I asked, "what would you get?" She said, “No doubt, studs.” I then did a search on PS. The entire thread of “Show me your studs” is mostly about studs. I guess I can’t go wrong with studs. Besides, they seem to be versatile enough - for everyday wear or for some days when I want some bling on my ears.

As most earring newbies, my first questions were what carat size and what setting style. I wanted to get 1ct each, but prices had shot up greatly. I searched WF’s inventory and got myself the largest pair of ACA’s available under 1 carat each. These are what I ended up getting.
0.717 E SI1 A CUT ABOVE
0.720 E SI1 A CUT ABOVE

For stud setting, I selected 3-prong Martini, because it seems to be pretty popular. Again, the choice seems safe.

Today I received my first OEC diamonds - a pair of earrings with OEC and French cut diamonds by Jewels by Erica Grace. I LOVE these earrings. Here is a vendor photo and a not-so-great photo of me wearing them to give an idea of scale. Wow, I just love everything about these - the sparkle and the color and the clarity were all do well described by Grace who answered my additional questions (since I recently had a not-so-great experience with another internet vendor). 1.30 ctw --- .94 OEC and .36 French cut diamonds.

Anyways, I love love love my new earrings and I think they go really well with my other jewelry!

Hi all

I decide to treat myself to some preset diamond studs. I couldn't decide between the Whiteflash bezel set or the W-prong. So i got both!!

i decided on 0.75 tcw YG bezel and 0.5 tcw YG W-prong. I dealt with Traci at WF and she was brilliant!. My earrings were made within a week and shipped out to me. Less than a week later i have them!! And i am rapt.

Now these are my first real diamond studs. I have a couple of pairs of small champagne studs but nothing like these.
And they are huge!!! Well at least to my eyes they are.

I am impressed with the quality with them. I am not an expert, but to me, they are great

After deciding that I wanted to upgrade my 80 point studs, I spent many hours searching through the pricescope site to try and decide what to get. I ended up getting a 1.6 ctw J VS2 ideal cut pair from blue nile. I decided on the GIA certs so that I could upgrade at a later date if I wanted. I also decided to prioritize the cut over the color. The J is plenty white for me, and I figured there was a good chance that a GIA J was probably just as white as a non-certed G or H. I was torn between those and a preset pair from ID Jewelry. I really wanted 2 ctw, but I totally love the earrings that I ended up with. I got platinum bezel settings.

These earrings are much livelier (and bigger!) than my previous pair.

This purchase was a little more expensive than most of my stuff, but having worn a tiny pair of diamond studs for about 13 years, I wanted a pair of "real" studs that I could wear forever and look amazing. I see it as an investment! They were $1,600 - which is a lot for me. They are 18k white gold bezels, and the diamonds from Blue Nile's Signature range are so fiery that they look a lot bigger on my ear than lesser diamonds would. They score 0.9 on the HCA, the tables, crown angles, pavilion angles are all the right numbers - you know, 56% table, 34.0 crown, etc. etc. You know the drill! One diamond is an F/VS1 and the other is an E/SI1.

However, I find myself not wearing these diamonds as much as I used to wear my smaller studs, because of the darn screwbacks! They are the most awkward sods this side of the Rockies! They take forever to put on and take off, the screw often doesn't screw straight when putting them on, and when taking them off, nine times out of ten I drop the back because...guess what...I can't see behind my ear, so I can't see when the back is coming off the post! Blue Nile offered to replace them with pushbacks for $40.00 and to pay the shipping and insurance one way. This is a pretty generous offer. However, they are expensive earrings and I recognise that the screwbacks are practical - once they're actually IN. Also, I don't know what the pushbacks are like - I could get the earrings back and the pushbacks could be a little looser than I'd like. Pushbacks vary widely in their tightness. So I decided not to mess around with something that isn't broken!

How do others cope with the screwbacks? Seriously, I've worn these earrings a fraction of the time that I thought I would, because I need extra time to deal with them and I'm often in a hurry going out, or I go to bed late, and the sheer hassle of getting them on and off isn't worth it. I had never seen these screwbacks before coming to the States, and I truly, truly hate them! But at least when I do manage to deal with them, I know they're never coming off!

Maybe I SHOULD replace the backs with pushbacks. Thoughts? I feel angry that Blue Nile offers no choice in this matter at time of purchase, because now that I'm thinking about it, these screwbacks have seriously hampered my enjoyment of these beautiful diamonds.

I have also realised recently that I don't like BN's style of bezel. I think it's old-fashioned. I prefer the type of bezel that's like a martini setting at the back, without the height of this BN bezel with those holes in the sides.

Maybe I'll just get them re-set at my local jeweller. The diamonds are amazing, but as I write this I'm realizing that I don't wear them much because the setting is all wrong for me.

I bought these diamond star earrings the other week, because I liked them and they were on sale! They were $355 reduced to $150 at Hamilton Jewelers online, and they are 14k white gold with 0.26 ctw of diamonds. They're quite lightweight and they're not the world's best diamonds or anything, or the sparkliest, but I really thought they were fun and cute and I'm just a girl who can't say no to a gold and diamond concotion for $150! Including tax and shipping!!! And I "need" more drop earrings anyway. I think they are very flattering.

It’s funny - I’ve logged a lot of hours on Pricescope and it’s impossible to miss all the glowing reviews for ID Jewelry, and yet, even after a dozen trips to the NYC diamond district for colored stone settings (and walking right past their door!), I’ve never seriously considered them. Silly I know, but I’m happy to say all that changed this past weekend, and I came home with two pieces that I’m crazy in love with!

For some time now, I’d been thinking about upgrading my diamond earrings - .53ctw OEC’s with delicate half-pointer halo jackets. But, I wasn’t sure if I wanted larger studs or larger halos. Yekutiel told me over the phone that he had jackets with 3-pointers, and assured me that I’d love them. Honestly, I was a little skeptical because I thought the melee would overwhelm the studs, but man, he was spot on - they were PERFECT! The proportions are a huge change over my old jackets, but I absolutely adore the scalloped edges, and they definitely have more presence on the ear.

First up, a shot of my old OEC studs and jackets

Those star earrings are lovely especially for $150!! Celli's jackets are totally gorgeous! I love the more "scalloped" design on them!!!!!! WOW!

Celli - those are stunning!! They are all right, wonderful in every way!

I have just received my pairs a few days ago. It's 0.78tcw, F-G color, VS2-VS1 clarity, Excellent cut, polish, symmetry in a platinum setting. I got this for my 30-year-old birthday.

Yay! Lovely and happy birthday!

I got these earrings partly as a try-to-pick-myself-up present after a what felt like a particularly horrible fall/winter (lazy, evil co-workers suck big time) and partly because I've been looking for lever-back dangle earrings for almost a year...

I was wandering around the downtown malls and ended up in a small local jeweller's store (after quickly taking a spin through Birks) and started looking at studs. I asked how much it would be to get the diamonds set in dangly (sp?) lever-backs, and when the lady said it's the same price as the studs since they have all the settings in stock, it's just a matter of soldering the little rings on to make the diamonds dangle. As I whipped out my wallet to pay, I also mentioned how I saw a sale sign a few weeks ago and it was the first time I saw that in all the years I worked downtown. She said they rarely have sales and that she would give me the discount anyways. I thought that getting these for the same price as an on-line dealer from a B&M store was a score in itself!

They're 0.55tcw E/F SI2 excellent cut, polish, and symmetry.

The downside from this venture was that I got lectured by DH about "sad-lonely" shopping....
