New Setting for my OEC

Oh yes, this is so beautiful, I love the basket as well. Similar to Mayk's and UrsTx's rings. Thanks for the suggestion dreamer. I have a feeling it might be out of my budget but I will ask for a quote.

I love the Stuller.. The shape of the crown is awesome, feels very regal... Of course I love the halo Dreamer posted too!! :Up_to_something:

Dreamer, thanks...ERD is a good suggestion, as is a bezel - makes more sense than the crown setting...I remember really liking Mayk's setting for her OEC. I feel a bit better that you've confirmed my feeling that a more enclosed setting would improve the appearance of my diamond.

Iknvrb4, thanks for sharing your experience, it is very helpful and definitely food for thought. I remember your ring, and I remember thinking it was really beautiful! I'm just curious, did you end up selling it? I know at one point you had decided to keep it as a RHR.

I did end up selling it to a nice lady who lost her erring. I was happy it went to a good home.

Junebug - think ERD could quote on a variation of Meg's halo but with plain shank, not using mele? That should reduce costs but still get that 'flower' basket. Her's is a GORGEOUS setting - but I think you are leaning to a simpler look with no diamonds on the band and just focus on the halo as the feature.

I hope ERD works for your budget - they have created some incredible settings lately!

I agree Mayk, it's a really nice setting, I really couldn't find other crown settings like this. But I'm thinking I might run into the same issue - my diamond looking small in low light. The girdle of my diamond would be really exposed too, and I'm already a little nervous when I wear it.

Iknvrb4: I'm so glad your beautiful ring went to a good home!

I sent an email so we'll see. In the meantime I'm going to check out the Ritani. Meg's ring is really beautiful, and the setting has a vintage feel that would work really well with my OEC. And yet, there's something about the simplicity and the clean lines of the Ritani that I really like too.

June, with the help of your ps friends, I think you are well on your way to really loving your ring in a new setting. Sounds like you do know what you want, and that you just need to find a way to make it happen.
I have the stuller setting and love it. But my diamond is smaller than yours. It is quite low in height, and may not work so well with a larger stone. I've only seen it with ones smaller than yours. Also, it sounds like you won't be happy with another solitaire setting. I think you can find a halo or bezel with an antique feel. Happy hunting.

Hi Junebug. I just recently changed my solitaire setting that I had for one month, to the Ritani that you are interested in. It is my avatar. The solitaire just did not work with the feel of my OEC; so I went back to the jeweler and they were very generous in doing an even swap to the Ritani halo with a free setting of my diamond. I too, love the plain shank with just the halo look. When I received the finished ring with my stone, I was shocked at the difference in finger coverage! The melee are about 1+ pts each. The ring is very comfortable to wear and the quality is high as well. I also have noticed an increase in the contrast of my facets as well which really brings out the beauty of the OEC.

I too, love Meg's ring and I had been working with Mark at ERD for a quote last week regarding making that ring with a plain shank. The cost was was 2x what the Ritani would have been for 18K and well over that for platinum. For now, I will keep the Ritani as it is certainly beautiful, but for me, it is a little too bulky on my finger and lacks an antique feel on the profile that I am looking for.

I hope this helps! :))

Kathley, your post was extremely helpful to say the least!!! Thank you SO much for your input, it is so great to hear from somone in the same situation as me. I am so glad to hear that you noticed an improvement in the appearance of your stone in the halo, that's what I'm shooting for. Your info on the Ritani is really helpful. It sounds like the ERD is out of my price range, as I just really don't want to spend a lot of money on this reset. Thank you, I really appeciate your help - and good luck in finding a setting with the vintage feel that you want!

Oh my GOSH Kathley do you have pics?? We need a thread! I would LOVE to see pics...especially sense I tell people its a nice ring, I'd like to be able to show them real live pics.

I found a friend with a size 5 finger. Excuse the Jared logo - I got my rings cleaned at the same time :D . I don't think it looks too big but I like a lot of coverage!

UPDATE: the setting was NOT purchased at Jared but I don't know how to crop out their name.

I will be happy to start a thread on this Ritani ring. Please see it in SMTB today. :))

Oh wow, thank you so much UrsTx! Gah, that looks beautiful  It really doesn't look as big as I was imagining. So helpful to see how the ring would look IRL. What to do, what to do. It was really nice of you to do this for me! :appl:

No prob. Just wanted you to be able to better compare apples to apples. Or in this case, rocks to rocks! No matter what you decide to do, I'm sure it'll be the right decision as long as you're happy.

oh MY!!! Junebug that would be GORGEOUS with your OEC set in there on your teeny tiny finger! It would look like a huge 3 or 4 ct stone!! WOW!! Go for it --- its amazing finger coverage!! Thanks UrsTx for posting that!

Damn... you know this is going to stir up all that questioning in my head again about resetting my own OEC, don't you??? I'm feeling pangs of jealousy already and you haven't even made a decision!

Oh thank you Kathley, I'm heading over there now!

I went to the jeweler, and he didn't have this particular style but will order a sample for me. Just going by the rings I saw today, I think I'm going to like it.

Enerchi, I know, it looks fantastic doesn't it? - Consider me very confused right now! And don't blame me, this is all bastecat's fault! :D

You are most welcome, Junebug! I really think UrsTx ring is beautiful as well and it has that antique look that I am interested in. hmmm!!! :?

I just checked out Kathley's ring thread in SMTB. It's beautiful! One thing I like about it a lot is that I think (it shows in the photos?) a wedding band can sit flush with it. A band will not sit flush with my setting. Food for thought, that's a major concern for some people. The finger coverage is great and the halo stones fit the center so well. Just lovely!

I also really love Beverly K. I think if you want to keep a vintage look, then a bead set halo like you see on many Beverly K halos is the way to go.

Thank you, UrsTx! The wedding band on my ring does sit flush with this setting; for those who enjoy that type of look. I do think your ring is attractive with a gap with your bands as well!

Ah yes, Beverly K settings are really pretty, I've looked at them in the past. Thanks for the reminder Dreamer!

I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned this yet, but JbEG has a couple of really pretty halo settings - Gabbie and Kylie. Have you looked at either of those? I think they have a very nice vintage feel with a touch of modern.

Oh yes, those are absolutely beautiful settings! I agree that they have a vintage feel to them, thank you for the suggestion - Unfortunately, they're also more than I want to spend right now ;(
