Although I like the weighty feel of it, it does add extra on and I am perfectly fine with WG. Maybe if I were harder on my jewelry I might feel differently, but I tend to go pretty easy on WG and rhodium plated items.

I am a fan of 18ctWG as well. All my rings are white gold. I don't think it's cheaping out at all. I know it can be a bit high maintenance but I prefer the colour and shine to platinum. But that's just me

I slept on it, and honestly I own rings in both metals and I really don't have a preference for one over the other...in fact, like you, I prefer the look of a shinier metal, so I might as well stick with the more affordable version. Thanks bastetcat! Yeah, I baby the heck out of my rings so I think the wg will hold up fine for me. I want to thank you for your suggestions about simon g. I never would have even thought to look at the settings otherwise - And of course, it's only right because you're the one to blame for getting me started on this reset, you with your beautiful halos

As to the metal. Do you know what type of alloy Simon G usues? If they are like other high end jewelers they likely use an alloy that does not require plating anyways -- like Scott kay uses, and others. And in that case I am ALL for the savings.

I'm not sure but I've had my Simon G for over a year and a half and seen no changes at all in it.

Thanks for sharing in my excitement Enerchi! I'm glad you feel that way, I agree and it was the look I was going for - not too ornate but has such pretty details...from a distance it will look like a fairly simple halo design, which is what I wanted.

Unfortunately, I'll have to wait 4 weeks - boo. This is going to be very difficult for the instant gratification type of person that I am!

Thanks for all of your advice Dreamer! You made some good points, and your comments helped me decide between the two - especially at the store when I really liked both of them and just had to narrow it down somehow. I would still be standing there lol!

I found this on the Simon g website:
Simon G. 18K white gold is alloyed with palladium. This ensures that the jewelry will retain a crisp white color and will be hypoallergenic.

Bastetcat, good to know that you haven't noticed any changes. I know I wore my 14k set for almost 2 years before I plated it, and it really didn't even really need it.

Yes, that is the high quality white gold alloy I was thinking about. I have seen Palladium white gold by other high end brands and it is a very nice metal in my opinion! It has a super crist cool while look. I am sure you will be happy!

It's good to hear you've seen this type of 18k gold Dreamer, and that it looks nice. I was tempted to go with the platinum but the price difference just gave me pause. I think I'll be happy with the appearance of the metal too.

Ok, well, there's good news and bad news...the good news is it's ready! The bad news is I'm out of town BUT I'll be back in town tomorrow morning, so I can pick it up then! I made it this far, I guess I can wait a little longer The jeweler assures me it's gorgeous lol.
