Thought I would share this in case people are debating between colorless (DEF/EF) and near colorless (GH).

6.0mm OMC (GH) with 5.5mm OEC (EF):

Both are still pretty white except you can see that the OEC is "starker" than the OMC. Both beautiful but I prefer the coloring of the GH more. When the OEC was loose, I had a hard time seeing the facets. The loose OMC reflects the facets MUCH better just due to the overall body color.

I'll try to do a white paper test comparison later if I can; I need to find an old photo of my Tianyu one somewhere in my cloud. I can't do it with my EF loose round from Mona as I sold it to a lovely PSer very recently.

Love seeing all the new pics:) I've been wanting a cushion OMC for a bit and it's good to see people purchasing them and are happy^_^

Also, I've been working with Cherry for a while now. She's always been nice. But she's like their manager and I think with the business taking up, I wouldn't be using her because she's busier and everything is taking a lot longer. Replies takes longer, CAD takes longer, etc. I would go with Grace or Demi. Those are the two I heard have been helpful and good as well.

Where did you get that OEC from? Pretty :)

Thanks, I sent her a message on whatsapp.

eta: she seems to have read it but not replied, hopefully I will hear from her today.

The quality of moissanites have really changed. Near colorless used to have an obvious tint but now they really do face up pretty white. I would probably only recommend colorless for fancy shapes, step cuts and rounds if you are color sensitive. I think the antique cuts really have to be G/H to look right.

I agree; GH makes antique cuts look better. I can understand the appeal of having a very white stone, but after getting two antique cuts in different color grades, I’d recommend people to get GH if buying those. As you said, the GH is still very white. My OMC is even whiter than my supposed “near colorless” moissanite from India. I’m not even sure what that color is, lol.

Well I have paid for my 2 rings, a 7mm asscher with a few small melee and the infamous Rachel style with a 8x7 ACC, both g/h in platinum. Fingers crossed for the CADs! Price for both was less than just the setting for my reset that I had been considering for an older Amora gem I have.

Ahhh congrats! I’m doing a Rachel inspired ring too! It’s such a great design. I love the modern pave and basket with the antique cut

Ok, final post comparing colorless vs near colorless. On the left is my loose Tianyu DE H&A and on the right is my Starsgem GH OMC. It took me forever to find the Tianyu pic since I’ve already mounted the H&A mid-Feb:

Hopefully my posts aren’t too annoying! I wanted to upload these because when I first started buying moissanites, I couldn’t determine whether GH would be too warm and I couldn’t find good comparisons between DEF vs GH moissanites. Anyway, I hope this helps someone in case they are trying to decide between colorless or near colorless from Starsgem or any of the Chinese vendors (ie, Tianyu, Mona, etc).

A dreary day on the East Coast so I thought it was a good time to upload some bling. I haven’t added this ring to this thread yet because I have been trying to figure out what to do. I went a little too big on the center stone for the ring so I have decided to reduce the size from 11x10 to a 9x8. This is much smaller which I am a little worried about but I have to work with the current setting because I don’t want to throw even more money on redoing it. I have decided to take the 11x10 elongated cushion and put it in a simple basket pendant with rabbit ear’s in 14 white gold. I am going to change the prongs to the sharp dog ear prongs like the ones I have on the ring. This stone is very deep so I hope it lays ok as a necklace. The price for the setting is $95.

Here is the ring I had made by Debebian’s in LA. I wanted to do a ruby collar for my daughter’s birthstone since mine is the impractical opal. I took inspiration from a ring that I saw on Hancock’s of London and also Single Stone. The ruby collar has been done by a few other people but the original inspiration comes from the Tiffany ribbon ring. I went for platinum and 18K yellow gold. I wasn’t sure how the two toned would turn out and the contrast ended up being too much so I decided to do a black rhodium finish on it. Now that the center is going to be so much smaller, I decided to do a black rhodium finish on an antique eternity ring I have that seems to match pretty well just to add a little more bling. This ring has a little bit of everything but the detail is really amazing. The only other thing I want to ‘fix’ is adding another miligrain trim in yellow gold around the kite princess diamond because the ruby collar couldn’t be cut small enough to meet the kite shape but this detail is going to bug me so I will fix it when the stone gets reset. My other 11x9 antique cushion ring project is getting finished up in England this week with tapered diamond baguettes and miligrain & engraving and I should have that one back in a few weeks so I will at least have one big ACC and one small. I can never have enough of this particular stone.....

@swaye2010 wow, the detail in this ring is exquisite! I actually contacted DeBebians a few weeks back just due to what you've said about them and Sam is very nice and professional. I do love the elongated cushion and I think it looks beautiful face up. Can't wait to see the other projects!

I know I keep chirping about Sam but you get the same work as David Klass without the 3 month wait. He has a fantastic engraver and all his own in house people but he just doesn’t spend time on jewelry forums. He did my sapphire reset as well. You may have seen it on another thread but this is the before:

After:

I am derailing my own thread but if you ever do engraving, he is definitely worth it.

Screenshot_20190422-165408.png Screenshot_20190422-165331.png Screenshot_20190422-165400.png . These are the 2 stones i ordered from starsgem. 8x10 DE cushion was set in a custom ring made by David Klass, he did amazing work and I only waited a few weeks.

The other stone is a 7x9.5 DE radiant cut. Both do look really nice. But I don't have a need for the radiant cut now.

Where is a good place/forum to sell moissanite stones? I'm pretty new to these online forums.

Another question is does anyone have any inclusions or things they can see inside their stones when they look very very close? Or are most of these moissanites flawless?

Thanks

I’m interested in the radiant if you make a LT listing for it.

What is LT?
louptroop. It's a place people sell stuff without fees (like ebay but no fees for sellers). Similar to diamond bistro.

I think I paid around $560 for the ring? It’s 9k white gold, size 6, with 1mm rounds for the under halo and 1.8mm round melee stones. Demi is who I’ve been working with and she’s amazing. I ordered the emerald cut solitaire and the OMC ring through eBay and then emailed Demi directly for 3 additional rings that I have them making right now and I’m about to add a 4th oval ring here shortly. I love both the emerald solitaire and the OMC, the facets on both are perfect. The emerald gives gorgeous flashes of sparkle and the OMC offers a beautiful mix of flashes and sparkle. Only thing I’d change is I’d get the emerald colorless instead of GH, only because of the slight warmth that shows more given the large size of the stone and step faceting. I’m considering ordering a new one in DEF and selling the GH solitaire, but not positive yet.

Here’s a better photo of the of the emerald cut paired with my real diamond band.
Do you know the CT weight of your stone?

After reading this Stargems thread i want an elongated cushion cut too
- March 27th,i asked Grace Lee for the price of a 8x6 acc in 9k white gold with double claw prongs.I went for 9k gold just in case i wouldn't like moissanite. Now i'm regretting i didn't go a size bigger lol
After the payment through AliExpress i received the cad in a hour! (Very simple design)
- April 12th, Grace send me some pictures and a video and would send the trackingnbr later.
- April 16th, i asked Grace if my ring already has been shipped out because i didn't received the trackingnbr. Grace told me she wasn't satify how the prongs were and sent it back to redo.
- April 17th ring has been sent by Dhl and i received it today April 23rd (delayed due to Easter holiday)
It was a really great experience working with Grace. She is very nice and she replies fast.

I feel like I see some small bubble like inclusions in the moissanite I had put into the ring, is that normal?

It's bugging me and I didn't see it before since the moissanite was sent straight to the jeweler. I've tried cleaning it and the inclusions won't go away.

Is there any way you can try and get a picture of it? Maybe ask the jeweler if they saw anything unusual or like an inclusion?
