This could be another fun option for your 2-stone ring.

Am working with my jeweler on an idea that I have and am fairly excited. Will take quite a while tho…

Icy!!! Wriston is getting backlash for your antics lol!!!!

The updates on the fight for gems is almost as fun as looking at your pics of them!!!!

Ikr… I was like “why you post?”…

Then again I also missed out on various of his goodies in past (that presumably went to his other regulars) so fair is fair lah. That’s why I always tell him to bring in more goods.

Knowing that he would get stuff today, I started messaging him in the morning asking when the shipment is expected so that I can fly over and then he unexpectedly messaged just after noontime that the package was in. And then omg stress as had to rush for a super quick lunch and then grab a taxi ride over to his store asap.

I love the fact that no one here on PS questions this behaviour at all

Your pieces and jade are exquisite, but do we have a thread on this ring? 4FA91C90-CE32-459B-9481-ECD5F545490E.jpeg

It’s not mine. Just something I tried on at my jeweller. Old stock from “good old days” when everything was BIG and BIGGER.

Did people go small again Icy?

I refuse to do small now! I'm overhauling. If it's not the size of my head, I'm not interested!

Ok popped by Asiatique to look at new gems and discuss settings and some gratuitous pics…

Have an idea for the 4 big tourmalines at the corner. So big and colorful right…

In the sun… and yes I was seriously considering the mahenge cushion which is why Boomz came along for the outing. It’s a beautiful open pink color which I like but not the price unfortunately (what’s the current market rate for a 4 carat mahenge anyway)…

I also want to call out Wriston for his wonderful honesty. I paid for an item and when he realised it probably wasn’t what I expected after I got home (and he didn’t know before hand too), he immediately refunded me before I even asked. :kiss2:

So good right? When I thanked him he said ”business is do long term one”…

And that’s why I dare to recommend people to him. Cos he not only knows his gems, he is a good and honest vendor.

So it’s Asiatique Fine Jewellery at Lucky Plaza basement 1. Boss name is Wriston. I know most of the PS readers are from US but if you ever come to Singapore you can pop by. He usually does regulars’ business so you may wanna mention is recommended by Icy Jade so he that takes you more seriously (else he will think you are one of those erm passerby who doesn’t know about gems, just ask prices for fun and wastes time - apparently he has gotten passerby requests for 5 carat unheated rubies for $10k and other odd request that sounds like a waste time to me…).

Ok hope I don’t regret doing this cos it’s already darn hard to buy his stuff. I literally have to camp at his store when he gets a parcel of gems to get stuff.

Plus these:

And tadaaaaaa!

Instantly blinged up. So happy I found an economical way to set pendants going forward.

Yes, yellow tourmaline from Wriston a while back. It doesn’t always look like that (can be a bit insipid in some lighting) and not that clean but it can also look radioactive in other lighting. So when I saw it I was like “I want”. Ok plus it’s so big hahahha

What is the large red stone ring in the first picture? Is it a tourmaline? Is it yours?

Ok...inquiring minds want to know...how do you decide what to wear??? Like do you have a system for ensuring each piece gets some love? I know I would be dizzy if I had all these choices hahaha

Erm, no system though I was quite disciplined about rotating the rings at one stage, and assigning 5 rings to wear each week so that they all got some love.

For a while it has been a combination of these:
- Most recent acquisition always gets the most love
- Which one goes better with the ootd
- If I was trying to be lower profile that day - then maybe smaller ring or diamonds instead of CS
- Whether I’ve already taken it out of the safe (and therefore less troublesome to wear than to dig something else out)
- Sometimes just whichever ring “feels” right. Like maybe a particular ring that just calls out to be worn.

Have not worn any fragile stones since the pandemic started so that plays a part as well. So no opals or pearls, though opals are really great for displaying on table while WFH - so pretty.

I suppose it’s like how you may choose what clothes to wear? Hmm, just realised that I’ve probably got more blings than clothes. More a factor of really limited wardrobe than anything else.

And… I’m officially on ban island (ok, was already working on a few setting projects but aside from those and setting this one I really really will need to take a pause to recover)…

Because of this…
0DC99AC2-FC6F-476D-A579-731AD23CC55A.jpeg

So my jeweller Wriston brought this ruby in and I thought it looked nice in his IG pics but I was so busy I really didn’t have time to pop by until I happened to have a spot of free time and messaged him and luckily I did cos apparently the supplier was going to pick up the stone that day as he was flying back the day after.

When I saw it what struck me was the beautiful shade of red. Hopefully u get what I mean from the pics but it’s a lovely saturated looking red. No purples, no pink.

I already knew from Wriston that it doesn’t have strong fluorescence (Mozambique ruby) but he sent me an outdoor pic that still seemed promising and made me want to have a look…
11D4F934-7C38-4C5E-8606-497A3894EF96.jpeg

When I saw it I pretty much fell for the redness. Like I said, that particular shade of red. Still, no strong fluoro so had to see outside…

Outdoors… and it looked ok to me, thanks to the color.
C8CABCEC-C030-4464-82F7-68EA9438008B.jpeg

And a close up…
A2B27C68-A245-4FD0-B01A-B3EF153F04AE.jpeg

With my other reds… Burmese spinel, rubellite, ruby, ruby (maybe not obvious from pic but this ruby has the reddest red)
74E34B69-2EA6-402C-95DD-E145F5C5A968.jpeg

I moaned and groaned and hesitated as omg such a pricey purchase but I figured if I pass on it I will beat myself up for the years to come (like a 6ct sapphire that I still think about) as it has that beautiful shade of red that I really like. So yeah, I got it and now I’m on ban island. I think I will watch more tv shows instead of browsing blings and maybe I need to stay away from PS for a while…

And what I probably will set with as I have a set of traps lying around… alternative is a pair of 1ctw rounds using a pair of earrings that I no longer wear. Or… I can go for a halo hahahah.

Which one do you ladies think is a better option? Traps, rounds or halo? Ideas and pics are most appreciated!

I voted non-halo so it will be of different look from your other haloed CS rings.
Trap or round sides will look beautiful equally, just choose what you prefer.

Am looking for inspiration pics as there don’t seem to be many of ruby rings with set of traps…

It’s 3.03ct, measuring 10.22x6.93x4.15mm. Unheated Mozambique. GRS vivid red.

You know how it is. Big for a ruby, small vs everything else…

I voted non-halo so it will be of different look from your other haloed CS rings.

I thought the same (diff look) but I worry a bit that I’ll find the ring too small without a halo… cos I’m such a size ho and the ruby is still quite small (relative to other CS).

===

Say if I go with the trap set, considerations:
- single or double or tab prong for the ruby?
- with dual metal - yellow gold for the ruby and white gold for the rest of the ring or all white gold?
- channel set or prong set for the traps?
- if channel, with or out without milgrain? (Referencing Leon Mege’s beautiful Mon Cheri series: https://leonmege.com/unique-mon-cheri-ring/ )
Like such a simple ring but I also cannot make up my mind lol. Would love to hear your suggestions and considerations! Help!

Icy you have so many halos and so many large rings. If you needed something the size of your head you can just wear one of the rubellites.

I think the traps are really special and I'm guessing this ruby cost you a pretty penny so I'd go for the traps!!!

Thank you so much for explaining your process in detail!!! More bling than clothes sounds like my style! If I had my way, I would wear all black, everyday, with just bling for color! Alas, I am not that stylish to pull it off (and I don't have enough bling...though my husband would disagree ).

I'm a little late to the party here, but I vote, hands down, for this 7-stone design with the traps and epaulettes!! Gorgeous stone!

P.S. My second choice would be a 3-stone design with the traps or even a 5-stone.
