Help needed - how thin should platinum shank with Halo setting be for 1.9 carot cushion stone

No offense taken at all. I appreciate the tough love and honesty. I want to be clear that I am not looking to motivate them at all. Poor choice of words on my end. Rather I just want them to fully understand my expectations and make sure that the concerns noted with the display settings are mitigated. IDJ have been nothing short of amazing so far, and besides a few negative threads and critism of the display setting as noted above, I really do feel good about them being able to deliver and meet expectations. I think it’s important to lay out all the concerns on the table upfront, and if they feel they can’t deliver, then I’d rather give them the opportunity to lay that out. Then it is on me to decide whether to accept the risks or move on. I see it less about motivating them, and more trying to make sure that my expectations have been communicated and is understood by all parties. Same as my boss giving me a project and then communicating his expectations from me. Understanding this then helps me ensuring that I can meet and exceed those expectations. If those expectations are unrealistic, then I can communicate that to him so that he has all the data points he needs to decide on next steps.
I totally get what you're saying. You are trying to be as clear as possible with IDJ. That is a good thing. I get it.
I'm trying to say that IDJ, regardless of what they may tell you, and IMO only, they will not be able to execute a three-sided halo like VC, SK, DK, and maybe even BE. I have not seen a BE IRL so I can't say. I do think that if they say they can, I don't think that they are "lying". They just may not be aware or realistic about their own capabilities, regardless of how "clear" and "complete" your instructions and expectations of them are. But that is still OK because you may end up adjusting your own expectations, and you may not even be aware when you do. That is all good. IDJ has made many Pricescopers happy and they are super nice and responsive there. I would not hesitate to work with them with the right projects. To be honest, I don't think I am clear about what your expectations are. I'm just speculating based on what I read that you want VC, SK or DK quality work. Maybe I am wrong.

The issue really is me here and me wanting to this to be as perfect as it can be. Why, because she deserves nothing less in my opinion. It’s a tough choice.
This is a very sweet sentiment Stig, and understandable by many on here. You’ve gotten some good input, and there are pros and cons with whichever way you choose. Be sure to go read the thread and see the photos that @PintoBean shared. It’s a beautifully executed halo from IDJ and the OP shares what she requested to get that result, so if you like it too you can pass those requests along to Yekutiel.

Hang in there. Custom isn’t easy and it can be full of choices, but it also adds to the special outcome of the entire ring =)2

The halo setting is of poor quality. I would take a pass, I saw that they are offering different stones and a bench for an upcharge. What completed pieces with that grade of melee and bench have they shown you?
For a pave halo I would go with Steven Kirsch. I used him for the pear below and his work really is spectacular. I particularly like how smooth the pave is to the touch. You do not feel any prongs, nothing catches.

So Yekutiel from IDJ just called me. He read this thread and called to assure me that he is confident he can deliver. He said he is overseeing this project, that I need not worry about the quality of the workmanship, and that I’m going to love the final product. He did bring up and talk a bit about the bad review that was linked in this thread earlier, and without going into details, there is probably much more context to that then what meets the eye. Remember, there are always two sides to a story. I’ll leave at that because that project has nothing to do with mine. I feel good about this, and am all in on IDJ. Him and Shulamit are truly genuine, good and honest people IMO, and I look forward to seeing the final product. In IDJ I trust....

Thank you to everyone for the input and for the education. As someone that started out this process a few months ago knowing nothing, and probably still knowing very little, I do feel I have enough to make an informed decision. Will keep y”all posted

Fingers crossed and hoping IDJ knocks it out of the park; if he's supervising it, I don't think Yekutiel will send you anything less than IDJ's best work.

I'm sure your girl will love it. Good luck!

I'm really glad to hear that you talked with them and are on the same page. I think communication is key for all projects, and being upfront about your expectations (and worries) is always a good place to start. I'm excited for you!

Yes I agree. I think IDJ will do their absolute best for you. Can’t wait to see how it turns out. I am very hopeful for you.

Hi All,

IDJ have completed the ring and here are the picture of the final product. Looks great to my eyes, but am interested in getting feedback from others.

Looks beautiful to me. Congrats!

Does she get to see it yet or does she have to wait for the proposal? I am dying for hand shots over here.

You and me both. She will not get to see it until the end of Oct when I propose on our trip to SA. Until then it sits in the safety deposit box at my local bank unfortunately.

it looks amazing! Gorgeous setting and that cushion - wow!
