I’ve reminded people that the mask needs to be over their nose so many times, DH is worried incase someone gets nasty, but I’m past the point of caring. I haven’t given up months of my life for idiots to make this go on any longer than necessary @seaurchin.
Granted there are some folks that have no reason to decline a vaccine, they have read things on the internet, a story from a friend, maybe something they read on social media. They haven’t personally experienced an adverse event.
Then there are people who have had horrific personal experiences, who trusted doctors who failed them, trusted government agencies that didn’t protect them and became an unfortunate statistic. They became part of a club that they never wanted to be a part of and unfortunately always have to be on the defensive because declining a vaccine, any vaccine for any reason is akin to wearing a scarlet letter in today’s society.
I point this out because some of us are not declining this shot (or any other shot) out of selfishness but out of fear based on prior personal experiences.

@YadaYadaYada -
I hear you on this. Utterly.
I've had experiences of extreme negligence from the medical profession that led to both unnecessary surgeries (the full 'slice the torso open' kind) and near death situations for me that were dodged only because of my own hyper vigilance.
I was also sexually assaulted by a male doctor alone in a locked room during a 'medical exam' when I was 19 years old. He had the key and he let me out when he felt like it.
So believe me when I tell you - I do not trust doctors.
But I trust science. I trust double blind. I trust wide ranging studies. I trust STATISTICS.
I'll be getting the vaccine.
You should be the people protected by the herd immunity. Unfortunately, it has been and will be compromised by people who believe in conspiracy theories. A record number of people died of the measles in 2019, 207,500.
please stay safe.
Gosh, I’m so sorry to hear this. Big heart healing hugs to you @mrs-b

Thank you for your very informative posts @m-cubed, it’s very reassuring. I had previously stated that I would wait to have the vaccine until I was absolutely sure it was safe, but now I’m of the opinion, I’d have it as soon as it’s available to me. My DH is older, so will be eligible for the vaccine probably quite a lot sooner than I will.
We have been extremely careful throughout this pandemic, abided by the rules, always wear a mask when we have to go out, and have tried not to complain about not seeing our only child since 29th December.
I can not understand people complaining about wearing a mask, how hard is it? I’ve even read ridiculous statements from people saying it was dangerous as you’re breathing in ‘bad’ air and it’ll kill you! I think the one thing this has shown us, is that there are plenty of people ready to believe everything they read or hear without doing any research at all.
My DS was just telling me on Monday about either an article he’d read or an interview he’d seen of a healthcare worker driving to work, drained and exhausted, ready to face another shift. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing, people queuing, unmasked and crowded together, to get in to a bar!!! WTF, I really struggle to understand how people still think it’s safe to do things like that.
My hope is that these vaccines are going to be available in the quantities needed to roll out the kind of programme necessary to get this under control.
When we’re finally through this, I fully expect to see plenty of denyers smugly saying that it was no big deal.
I truly hope that all the lovely PSers and their families get through this and remain safe and healthy.

Re masks: I am unconvinced.
Studies have shown that if you wear gloves or masks, you may be more at risk because you take fewer precautions in terms of distancing for example. With masks, if they don't fit properly you are also likely to touch your face frequently. Which puts you massively at risk.
From everything I have read, if used perfectly masks do reduce transmission.
If they are not used perfectly, they don't, and may increase transmission.
So sorry to hear this; that is awful.
But, I don't want to sound like a dick; but I'm the exact opposite in terms of how I feel.
I was raped at 15, then 'abused' (or, basically, repeatedly raped) from 16-18. I have massive trust issues and need to be in 'control' otherwise I freak out
The idea of having to have a vaccine I don't need or want freaks me out.

should I raise my hand at this point??
From everything that I've learned through this study, In general terms, some people will get short term symptoms with the 2 dose Moderna Vaccine. They kinda suck but generally well tolerated. The good is that mRNA vaccines out there are not real corona, and they sufficiently work well to create antibodies in most people.
For those of us that volunteered, we did so for 2 years. So, not sure what will happen if they get the emergency filing. I would HOPE they would tell those that didn't get the real vaccine to get it.
But yes If I find that I did not get the real doses, (I've guessed I didn't as I did not have any antibodies base on a lab test) I will take them.
If I did get the real doses and didn't make antibodies, I'm obviously not from this world.
