What do you think of this setting?

Too bad it doesn't have gray or blue undertones...

The stone above is a good example because even though you see a stone head on some of the time, you do see it at angles where you'd see the tint from the crown even in a halo. I think the link above shows significant tint in an H color when tilted. Again, I would potentially try it in rose gold, but I think it would be too risky to order a stone to be set in a halo that would be a pain in the neck to exchange and do a reset if the stone bothered her. And all that would have to be done within 30 days which might not even be possible when part of the time would be taken up having that setting custom made.

Wow! That would be awesome in a RG setting or even a setting that was mainly white metal with a touch of RG -- like on the prongs/basket or even on a very delicate inner halo/bezel. [emoji7]

In a J or K, this would be ideal, but I just think it might bother me otherwise... Esp if I'm buying an H. [emoji16]

This one is getting the overwhelming thumbs up from mutual friends / sister. http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/pave-and-side-stones/cora-sholdt-14k-white-gold-5767w14

What stone would make the most sense?

Pearlmans also sells sholdt, gives you a 2% discount on diamonds if you buy the setting through them, and has been known to offer a discount on settings if you mention you heard about them through price scope.

Ask them about this diamond and see if they could beat Brian Gavin's price for that setting in platinum.

I think I'd like to try and find a stone without the brown tint - I'd like to stick w platinum or white gold on the setting as she would prefer that.

I'm more interested in getting this right than hitting 30 days exactly as well.

Scores well on the HCA... 1.6

If they have a good return policy, it may be worth it to go for it. What do you have to lose??

"Colorless diamonds and gemstones can be returned within 10 days of purchase. Fancy color diamonds can be returned within 30 days of purchase. Returned items that were paid for with a credit card will be charged a 5 percent restocking fee. "

Eh, I'm a little gun shy on this one at the moment.

I think it's unavailable.

I'm still looking don't worry OP. youvve got the setting down that was the hard part :)

You're amazing, thank you:) Settling on the setting removed a ton of anxiety on all this. No stress anymore!

As for cushion, I guess I don't know. I do like how a round stone looks on the setting - hard to picture it with a cushion.

i agree, that adds more uncertainty to your search. No need to do that!

Feeling gun shy about this one as well. I asked the rep at BG to keep an eye out for a 6mm H or better round stone...

I guess bc there's no ASET and I'm working off one mediocre photo.

Gotcha... do you have a specific time frame to buy a diamond?

Eh, I'm ready and it'd be nice to get the ring sometime in June but it's not critical. So I can be flexible.

Okay, that's good -- no pressure to buy right now. I don't blame you - hold out for the right stone. :))

You may want to check with a few vendors to see what the turnaround time on that Scholdt setting is... that may impact your time frame.
