Setting help! GOG 1.67ct N AVR (brown with pink undertones)

I need some help guys! I'd been eyeing the light brown / pink undertone stones that GOG got in for potential re-cuts for a few weeks so when I saw his first one come back within my price range I jumped on it. I did toy with going for the 2.08ct and getting it re-cut (est weight approx 1.8ct) but the spread of the stone as it is (i.e. at 2.08ct) is not much larger than this one so I decided just to go for this one.

Anywho, I now have the task of deciding on a setting. I have a few ideas but this is going to be a RHR so I don't want anything too similar to my other RHRs (my other RHRs are both halos so I'm trying to stay away from another halo). This is what I've come up with so far:

Idea 1 - French cut shank in platinum with rose gold basket and pink diamond melee to play up the colour
Idea 2 - Similar ring to Backwardsinheels OEC ring from Single Stone (linky: [URL='https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/single-stone-looks-like-love.190075/']https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/single-stone-looks-like-love.190075/[/URL]), probably all in platinum but possibly with a rose gold bezel
Idea 3 - Say bugger it and go for a pink diamond / rose gold halo with probably a platinum / white melee shank
Idea 4 - ??????

Budget is decent but not limitless. None of the 3 will be cheap so I'd rather get it right than spend 25% less and have that niggling doubt.

I'm very, very open to any other suggestions folk might have. I'm not the most imaginative of people and really value any outside input

Lol, thanks Kenny! That means a lot coming from you. It was a freaking steal as well (IMO) :naughty:

Picking it up when I'm in the US in 2 weeks time so will make sure I post some IRL shots as soon as I have it in my grubby little hands.

That is one beautiful stone congrats! Ok I know this is a long shot but if this doesn't sell maybe you can ask if they'd be interested in selling you just the setting................or you can buy the ring and sell the diamond (looks like the dimensions are good for your stone)

Gorgeous gorgeous stone!!!

If it were mine, I'd do a rose gold cup, rose gold bezel, then white diamond (full cuts?) Art Deco style halo set in platinum with a platinum shank. Something kind of like this:



I think the accent stones should be stark white diamonds to create contrast. Or maybe a double halo with pink melee first than white on the outside?

Also, would mounting a FIP diamond (or even pink sapphire melee) as a surprise stone under the culet help amp up the pink tones? Kind of like how Haven has a yellow surprise stone in her ring?

PintoBean - that's a lovely design, probably not quite 'me' but a great idea nonetheless

Cluless - great thinking, I'll keep an eye on that

Rosebloom - like your thinking, especially setting one or two melee inside the basket to help with the pink colour. I've seen some 'champagne' diamonds set in rose gold where the stone ends up looking like grey muddy water. I'm not sure if it's the tone of the rose gold (too coppery?), the tone of the diamond (maybe they have a hint of grey in them?) or something else but that's why I'm not deciding anything until I've seen the stone in person and had a chance to play around with it next to different metals. I'm definitely thinking incorporating pink melee in there somewhere will help draw out those blush tones.

I have a light brown (O/P) AVR set in RG and it works. I'll admit to not being very color sensitive though. I'm sure the fact it's a solitare has something to do with it as well :)

My favorite would be backwardsinheel's setting. My second choice would be kelpies. They are both beautiful!
When you get it can you set it next to a shinny new penny to see how it looks with rose gold?

id do a normal HW style halo in pink diamonds if you can swing it, if not, white diamonds with pink gold....

I also think it would be gorgeous in yellow with white diamond melee, but that wont play up the pink like you want

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions!

Lovebug - your ring is gorgeous! I just found your pics of it, that's really helpful to see a light brown AVR set. Never in a million years would I have said that was O/P.

tyty333 - that's a brilliant idea re the penny. I'll also be in LA when I pick it up so I think I may try and get down to Single Stone and hold it next to some settings (although that's a dangerous plan - not sure I trust myself in there!). I love the backwardsinheels setting too, I'm also toying with doing the Kelpie setting with a PT shank but rose gold leaves and rose gold basket with pink melee.

Niel - I know! That was my first thought, I'm only resisting it because I've just had a HW style cushion halo from SK (which I'm also picking up in 2 weeks time) and I have another halo RHR ring. I love halos but just feel I should *try* and do something different with this ring. I may well end up doing that though!

Diamondseeker2006 - your stone is TOTALLY stunning so right back at ya! It was your recent pictures that tipped me over the edge and I realised I just HAD to own one of these stones. I'd have loved to go that bit larger and maybe re-cut the 3.02ct that GOG has but just can't justify the money at this stage - especially in light of my other recent sparkle purchases (a full SMTB thread to follow in a few weeks I promise). I love the bella idea - it's a halo but a little different. Hmmm...... GOG still have the other 3 candidates for recutting if you're tempted :-) It's such a cool colour. If money was no object I'd still have bought one of these stones (but probably bought an H or I as well!). I love Ann McKay and have spoken to her before but she only works on yellow gold now. She'll use other golds as accents but the main body has to be yellow. I've also spoken to Caleb Meyer but they only take outside stones for the first 6 months of each year so I'd need to wait until January. Soooo many options to choose from!

Trundlebunny, you have been doing your homework here, I can see! That is funny that you have already contacted Ann McKay and Caleb Meyer! That was great information to know! I think it is a mistake not to delve into rose gold, but I guess her business must do well enough with yg!

Glad to see you bought that beautiful diamond! It'll be lovely no matter how you set it. Haven and Kelpie's always get me too.
And that's so nice you are inspired by my setting as well (shout out to Tyty333, wootwoot!). Single Stone does not disappoint. Now I understand the phrase "A thing of beauty is a joy forever". I am redonkulously still so happy with it. You have the pick of the litter for setting ideas here, but I'd stick with a nice "apricoty" rose gold, not so coppery as you're saying and after that I'm stumped. Get what you keep coming back to, that's always a good sign to show what makes your heart sing. Have you considered one like this from SS?
