In a box

I like the one in the box :) Little surprised at his packaging, I was excepting something...cooler?

Trying to show the sparkle potential. The color is not really coming out all all. Photoshop seems to be changing it.

That''s my box, he didn''t put it in anything!

last one

ETA: I have to take my BF out to mexican food now

Oh yeah, any ideas how to set this thing???

That''s really nice!! I bet it''s much more neon in person. I love it, and I would set it in yellow gold.

I love those Richard Homer spessartites, the concave faceting and the color remind me so much of the sun. Since I''m into solar astronomy, there''s a whole bunch of pictures that come to mind there.

TL - thanks, that is closer to the real color, except there is more orange.

What box? My Richard Homer gemstones came in the diamond paper with "tissue" and the whole thing was inserted into a little brown envelop. That''s it. No box. I was hoping for a pretty gemstone case too.

Hey, you can''t beat that!! It''s a good thing to look like the sun!

I''ll bet that stone is awesome in real life! The sapphire I bought was sooo hrd to photograph. Gives me new appreciation for photography.

Thanks TL - maybe tomorrow I can try using my old PC to load the pics and it won''t change the color.

Cind11 - This has been the hardest one to photograph so far

Ok, I played around. Got the color more accurate. Is this the right spess color? This stone looks more amazing in night time lighting.

Complementary colors :-)
Love the glow!

Thanks. It really does glow. It is cool. I have never seen a stone glow like this before.

So, do you think it was a good choice?

It''s really a pretty color!!!!Any thoughts on setting it? I vote yellow gold. The color just reminds me of MZ''s ering...

I would be fine with yellow gold. I was at first thinking bezel, but the cut is kind of deep and so I don''t want to cover the profile. I wonder if I can afford a halo???

I do, It is really bright. I am not sure if there are some brown undertones or not. But it looks pretty orange to me. When I bought my sapphire, I had seen 100''s of them, so I knew what looked right. I have only seen this stone in pictures. I think the concave cut was a good choice. It really brings out the brilliance of the stone. I understand why they are called Mandarin garnets now. I never really got that from seeing the pics.

Do you see anything with it?

spess....as are most color stones.....is difficult to photograph. spess also comes in a wide range of yellow-orange to an actual red-orange tone/color. a concave cut is going to perform differently than a faceted stone. personally, i think you have a keeper.

Thanks a lot. That means a lot coming from a Spess lover. I just took the stone out again. It is a great color. I think I really do have a one of a kind stone. I kind of go through a questioning period whenever I make a bigger purchase. Just something I do, I don't know why. I did it with my sapphire too, and that is my favorite stone.

I plan on keeping this stone in my collection :-). I just have to figure out how much I can spend to set it. I kind of want to do something a bit nicer for this stone. I have a little bit more of a budget now that me and my BF are not going on a big vacation.

Nope, except a Mandarin colour, like you said. It will make a "stop in your tracks" pendant!

That would be a cool idea

So a pendant would not be too expensive. Here is one from Whiteflash halo pendant. I wonder how much it would be to have one done by Ritani? This is a decent halo ring for the money, but I don''t know if it would be too much.

I think it'd make a lovely halo pendant!

OOO!!!! Exciting!!!

Haha, I'm watching my lecture on childbirth right now ::shudder:: I am so not going to be an OBGYN, lol. Please, show me something pretty to wipe out the scary images I just saw!

I didn't really see this until last night when I re-read everything. That's funny. You don't want my job for sure.

Another vote for the halo pendant. This might be a good idea. And I could afford to do it now and get another gemstone this year

I just pulled the stone out into the morning light It now looks like a pale orange with a soft glow. Like the second pic I put up. This stone has many different faces and they are all beautiful. I am now a fan of the spessartite garnet.

Haha, yes. In med school you learn some amazing, touching, and wonderful things, but you also see some of the most disturbing.things.ever. I''m going to try my hardest to avoid watching a live childbirth from the business end until after I have a kid of my own, I''m afraid if I know too much, it''ll scare me out of ever wanting to go through labor, lol.

But anyways, I think it''d make a stunning stunning pendant. The color is so eye catching that I think it deserves to be front and center and where everyone can easily stare and admire it! (I guess just don''t wear it on a chain that''s TOO long ;) )

I love the color and Richards cuts. It is beautiful. I think it would look gorgeous in yellow gold.

ahh haha, I thought my ob/gyn rotation scared me off from ever getting pregnant. Always thought I would adopt. But I''ve got crazy baby fever now, and adotion during residency sounds impossible so I am contemplating uhh, popping one out

I still shudder at the thought of being pregnant though, I''m afraid.

Ltl- I totally adore it!

Even if the photos aren''t the best ever (still nice!), you can tell that it just GLOWS. I don''t know that I would go with a pendant personally. In fact, I''m pretty sure any of my nice stone projects will be rings because I want to see the darn thing! It would be gorgeous though! I think you would be going all of your friends a nice favor by making into a pendant

LtlFirecracker,

I don''t think I said so in my previous post, but I think your stone is just so lovely. Truth be told, whenever I look at Richard''s site, I can never quite make up my mind if I like these concave cuts or not. But I think that it maybe down to his pictures. I must say, if ever there was a candidate for a concave cut, it has got to be your round spess. I think it looks like a sunburst. If it glows like the one that Wink video''d then I bet it looks amazing.

Here''s a link to a Richard Homer spess set in a bezel ring, if your looking for an example of how it might look like in a bezel.

Here''s a thread that is a showcase for Richard''s stones. Perhaps you might consider adding yours to it, the thread is well worth bumping to the front (it''s from 2003!).

Here''s a Richard Homer in a pendant, although not a halo, but does have neck shots.

And here is the thread that I originally went looking for to show you. It''s a pendant that just seems to float.

So my vote goes to the pendant, hands down! Enjoy your beautiful stone.
