1. Would you go to a restaurant?
Yes I would since there will be very few customers inside.

Or no vaccine no cigar?
If we gonna wait for a vaccine then it'll be another yr of staying at home.

1. Would you go to a restaurant?

2. Would you be upset if others went to a restaurant and feel that they were endangering you?

1. Yes probably since we haven't had a new case in a few days in our county. 61 cases total since the lockdown.

2. Not at all.

Thank you for answering my questions guys!

It's just as I suspected! We are not all that different and do want to move forward as best as we can.

I think sometimes on a forum there can be misunderstandings whereby someone like me (who is more of a risk taker) will misinterpret and think that a more cautious member wants me to be locked up forever to save themselves.

Likewise a more cautious member might think I'm off illegally gallivanting around partying at sushi bars without a mask because of my lax attitude.

The truth is nowhere near as drastic!

The title of this thread should read...
Real People Are Dying / Cuomo kills

This isn’t specific to Cuomo or New York. It’s an issue for most societies with rampant outbreak and an aged population in long term care.

We have a conservative government and it’s happening here. It was a huge issue in Spain and France. Boris Johnson in the UK stated that he deeply regrets the situation in their long term care.

If anything that article underscores why we need to social distance. It’s to reduce spread and protect the most vulnerable.

It exploded in care homes here about 2 weeks ago. Lots of people sick staff and patients. Many of the non-nursing staff are illigals. A lot of deaths are going to happen a bunch allready did.. It sucks big time

All true, but here in ny Cuomo had other options. We had a huge excess of covin beds on the uss comfort and in the Javits center. We also had an underutilized Covid emergency hospital in Central Park (Samaritan’s purse sponsored). Cuomo decided not to direct the elderly patients to these facilities. Rather, he sent them back to the nursing homes. Nursing homes are not hospitals. I just do not know what he was thinking.

@Queenie60 Queenie says in bold, I reply/retort in NOt bold :)

You enjoy twisting posts around to suit you.

Twisting around posts? WTF are you talking about, I answer them, logically and sequentially Suit me? What does this mean? I'm answering you.

Therefore, you win! White flag.

Does this mean you can't answer with any logical, intellectual, well read and thought out retorts? If so, I agree.

........... Glad I could make your day

Did I say this? I don't think I said this.. I have not spoken/written things like 'make your day' since 1980s. ]

When I have time I come here and read and I answer retorts to me. I neither make nor whatever a day.. I do stuff and reading PS is part of my day..

. However, I do stand by my comments that it's not nice to bash people and make nasty comments about the way they live just because it doesn't align with your beliefs.

Do you know my beliefs? Or are you inferring my beliefs? My belief that DF is a BSer and he doesn't practice what he preaches AND he can speak for himself. Do most people in America raise their children to be dependent on mommy and daddy for daycare? Maybe so, but not where I came from..

And yes, I will go out and about when the need be.

Best of luck.

And yes, I will wear a mask, sanitize, exercise social distancing and any other way I can stay safe.

That is just super! we all do this.. Me? I only go out if I HAVE to, but whatever you need to do for yourself, you go girl!

However, traveling, going to restaurants and any other unnecessary place is a NO. Stay in your house, that's your option, and it's my option to safely go out.

I met with my pool builder today.. I go out when I feel it's safe, I'm not telling you what to do or not do, as others have said, it's up to us to make choices and hope we all make the best choices for each other and ourselves.

Hey, just be grateful you didn’t get a lecture about your panties!

All true, but here in ny Cuomo had other options. We had a huge excess of covin beds on the uss comfort and in the Javits center.

from above:

Cuomo said after meeting with President Donald Trump that the USNS Comfort was helpful, but could now be sent elsewhere after being docked for weeks off of Manhattan.

We also had an underutilized Covid emergency hospital in Central Park (Samaritan’s purse sponsored).

Anti LBGT group (samaritan's) seems very hateful group to me.

On Tuesday, a group of LGBTQ activists stood several yards away from the Samaritan’s Purse field hospital on the East Meadow lawn and blasted city and state officials and Mount Sinai Hospital for partnering with the evangelical humanitarian relief organization treating overflow patients suffering from the coronavirus.

Cuomo decided not to direct the elderly patients to these facilities. Rather, he sent them back to the nursing homes.

Give the guy a break.. do you just read Fox??

Nursing homes are not hospitals. I just do not know what he was thinking.

He was thinking of what was best for the STATE of NY and NYC.. Reading is fundamental.

Why do I always miss the good stuff?

My mistake! It was actually a lecture about big girl pants, not panties. Is there a section for those at Target? Don’t wanna spend too much.

Actually he wasn’t. Cuomo sacrificed the elderly population. He made a choice. I do understand this...but he should be honest about it.

I’m still reasearching, but it makes no sense. We had excess capacity, yet cuomo sent the elderly back to facilities unable to care for them. As for sensitivity to the gay and queer, who cares? The Christians that work for samaritans purse do not require that those they care for subscribe to their beliefs, rather that those that work for the organization do. I’m ok with that.

I live here. My father was on the board for a large local hospital group for 25 years. His best friend was chairman of the board. Friday night dinners included our respective families and a discussion of the hospital and how to proceed. Had the hospital not closed (it was the closest full service hospital to a major international airport. Uncompensated care bankrupted the hospital...the local, lower middle class population paid the price). we all would have taken positions on the board (do not make assumptions...we are all highly educated, and qualified....in fact, participation costs, both financially and personally.... there is no financial gain)....

Cuomo made a huge mistake. It happens...don’t hide from your mistakes. Admit it, and move on.

The argument above seems to be that because a group offering and capable of treating Covid patients espouses traditional christIan values that it is better to send Covid infected elderly people to the nursing homes which are less able to deal with Covid, knowing that the other residents there are the MOST vulnerable and therefore most needing protection? Further that this is the best for NY State and NYC?

Anyone else want to support that heartless and horrid viewpoint?? Come on folks...lets use that like button!!

BSer or PSer??...:Up_to_something:slap4.gif I don't see anything wrong with us babysitting our grandkids since we are both retired. Wife and I look forward to playing with our grandkids.

slap4.gif Dems. don't make mistakes. :shhh:

@rocks You are being generous calling it a mistake when it was the intentional policy. I don’t know how Cuomo can claim not to know when he was asked repeatedly at press conferences and never had an answer. The policy was part of the Covid directives under his authority.

The nursing homes are Petri dishes and as long as this thread is casting blame—based on the title— trump is not responsible for the fact that many cultures abandon their elderly in nursing homes. People knew about this threat early on because Washington had the first deadly outbreak in a nursing home. The fact that the relatives of these elderly left them in nursing homes, if they had any relatives, is not Trump’s fault. But it’s just a testament to how American society treats the elderly. Karl, the “illegals” that you are referring to will likely die as well due to poor health care access. Can you at least refer to them as undocumented? They are probably being exploited by these nursing homes and do not have adequate protective equipment.

I’m no Cuomo fan, but I choose not to believe anyone could be that duplicitous or pure evil.

Not all Americans. My father is 90, my mother in law 91, and and my aunt 95. They are at home an being cared for...and not by the government.

Didn’t mean to offend you. But the reality is that I’m referring to nursing homes in America. And I didn’t suggest that the government runs nursing homes. The government doesn’t take care of the elderly in nursing homes. My hubby’s grandma was in a nursing home and his parents were paying close to 6k a month for that care, at the time.

In my state long term care facilities are a lower priority for PPE than hospitals. They’ve got more than they need at our hospital yet we are sewing masks for the nursing home workers where if there was an outbreak it would be wildfire. It’s ridiculous. Care centers got testing last here too.

And please don’t paint with a broad brush. My mother died in a care facility as I was there holding her hand. The staff there cared for her better than I ever could have with her condition. For most people it is the most difficult decision they’ll ever make when they realize they can no longer safely/adequately care for a parent or a spouse with advanced dementia who is combative, dangerous, confused. Or a degenerative illness that requires care/nursing 24/7. Injuries/accidents/neglect can happen when family members take on more care responsibility than they can provide. Most are not abandoned and their families are suffering greatly at not being able to be with them.

Absolutely agree with you. It’s not easy. But blaming the government for the Covid deaths, a great majority of which have happened in nursing homes, well that isn’t fair either. So at some point someone has to take responsibility or the blaming needs to stop.

Oh...@Tekate. I see you as being self-righteous. I'm glad that you have all of the facts in order. Must take quite a bit of time to continually look these things up and quote them on PS so that you're the one with all of the correct information and quotes. Good for you. Well, yes, I will go girl! I have a huge home to care for, plants to tend to, food to cook, elderly parents to care for, a business to run and many other daily tasks that do not provide time for me to sit behind my virtual keyboard and dictate to others. I know many women like you - that huge backpack of animosity that you carry around must be quite heavy as well as the need to always be right. Yes, I do wave my white flag to you..... not worth the time it takes to converse with one who is self-righteous. Oh.... I forgot to mention, I have a zoom call to tend to - a discussion panel with The Silicon Valley Association of Republican Women. Busy me!!!

@rocks I do not think the motive was evil although the outcome was horrific. I have no explaination for why that was the policy when as you said, there were plenty of available beds and care available without sending knowingly infected patients to nursing homes. Nursing home staff was also working if they tested positive, as long as they were asymptomatic. That policy has now been rescinded as well.

... I don't see anything wrong with us babysitting our grandkids...

I do.

Increased contact with anyone, beloved grandchild or stranger, increases the odds that COVID-19 is transmitted to them, and to you and your wife.

Regardless of what your dear leader tells you, medicine, science, and math are your friends, not your enemies.
If you really love your grandchildren, be smart.
Increase the odds of saving their lives, and yours by social isolation.

This virus isn't sentimental; it doesn't give a crap about love or respecting cultural differences.
It only wants to produce children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren ... and so, onto infinity - which BTW is what the same as what humans have demonstrated they want to do too.

IMO I'm looking our for your grandchildren more than you are.

@Queenie60 No profanity please.

I'm trying to say "wtf" - why would anyone allow this person to continually dictate facts in a very self-righteous way? And she quoted that she met with her pool builder, what is so different than my "huge home" and why should you care that I have a meeting with the republican women's association? I continue to hear how right the democrats are.... I have a right to mention my party. That's what I am saying. She continually twits posts around to have things inline with her beliefs. Sorry but I don't roll over to anyone.

@nala Of course it’s fair to look at why so many deaths may have happened in those nursing homes. Cuomo says he doesn’t know what he’d do differently. It’s not about blame for the sake of it, but unless he/we can acknowledge the failures there won’t be change to avoid the horrible outcome that resulted from those policies.

I didn’t say it wasn’t fair to examine, I said it wasn’t fair to blame. The spirit of this thread is to blame government for everything as if... as if we don’t make individual choices daily about every aspect that lead to Covid deaths. Masks, distancing, quarantines, Etc. As if we are so naive that we expect the government to solve all of our problems—bc have they ever??? I’m so sick of the blame game, shame game, etc. But i Guess that shouldn’t discount culpability—except that it really isn’t going to help us survive. Except that no one really understands this damn virus even now! And no one—not trump, not Pelosi, not The Who, not the cdc, —got this shit right!!! As individuals we have to accept this new reality and adapt and prepare like we have always done!
