Not sure why you assume that even DF is advocating for these actions

It doesn't matter what our governor or Trump say. We all have a choice to stay home till we feel is safe to go out.

But on the other hand isn't it selfish of Kenny to take freedom away from other people?.. IOW, it doesn't matter if the public were 100% infected with the virus Kenny can protect himself by staying home.

So Am I. I can quarantine myself forever if I so chose to however, I have no right to ask my neighbors to quarantine themself.

@Maria D Not sure what you think his quotes imply other than going out. Like to the store?

Is kenny also right about saying that contact tracing is creepy
yes it is very creepy and is ripe for abuse.
I am waiting to see what the system looks like before deciding what to do. My default inclination is no way.

I'm hazing on DF just a bit, its a guy thing.
Plus it would be safer and I want him and his family to be safe.

But it would be safer if you change your inclination because you will help to contact people who are risking their lives daily to make toilet paper, soap or sell you groceries. Enrolling in this app will alert them if they have come into contact with Covid. It would be safer if you and everyone participated.

And I'm not sure why you can't understand his implications. Maybe if you read the context (the posts he is responding to) it will help you understand. Or, you could just let him speak for himself.

@nala, I'll read the thread, did not know that there was a thread regarding this, or maybe I'm a bit overwhelmed with life right now. I'll read and comment. Thank you. Q

Well you were quick to speak for others. Just doing the typical PS.

@MariaD. I agree that he can speak for himself. All I'm saying is that it's not nice to speak badly of ones family or lifestyle choices. That's it and all. I respect your opinion very much.

No, I don't defend carelessness. However, I feel it's not nice to bash a person due to their lifestyle and to make nasty comments about their family. Beach gatherings, park gatherings, protesting in masses and any other foolish, careless acts I DO NOT APPROVE OF.

Lucky for @Dancing Fire , my so-called nasty comments will not harm his physical health. That's more than we can say about a family member who is in frequent contact with him even though she works in a public place where sick people go. (Yikes, as I write that out it sounds kind of like carelessness!)

What he does with his family is his business and no one has the right to degrade him for loving and taking care of his family. We don't know his entire family dynamics and therefore should not criticize. That is all I am saying - I would come to the defense of anyone on PS regardless of their political affiliations and beliefs. We should not make mean and nasty comments about ones lifestyle - we are better than that.

Thank you! I will warn you, the ethical police will come at you fiercely to protect their privacy!:lol::lol: But yet they have no problem expecting the rest of us to make sacrifices for them:nono:

I will consider that when deciding.
My phone is locked down and it would mean making it vulnerable.

Or sacrifices that align with their thinking.

I have another question!

I feel like there is a lot of conflict because some of the states are in really dire straits.

Say if things improved and Dr Fauci recommended that restaurants be allowed to open again with appropriate social distancing:

1. Would you go to a restaurant?

2. Would you be upset if others went to a restaurant and feel that they were endangering you?

I think there is a huge difference between being allowed to do something that the experts have weighed in on than say me willy nilly deciding to host an afternoon tea of 20 people against government regulation.

Or no vaccine no cigar?

In some Asian countries they have these big barriers being put up in restaurants and you can only dine in groups of 4. I don't see why if something like this is done safely with approval from health experts it should be frowned upon. Presumably all the wait staff and chefs want to make a living too, have bills to pay and must balance between customers potentially infecting them and earning enough to live.

Personally, I will not dine in restaurants for quite sometime. The only takeout I get is from our Private Country Club as they are catering to Members Only and I have a feeling of safety with this method. You might say it's "mind clean" - Others can do as they wish however, I will continue to exercise caution with everything. If the health experts approve it then I suppose it's okay and who am I to judge? I'm going to continue with our current way of doing things.

Haha I'm a "by the book" risk taker so if you give me official permission, I'm off doing it!

If our government says "off you go, go get your sushi" I'm going to be there in a flash.

I've bought a fair bit of take out mainly because I crave it and also because one of our leaders told us to eat a few take away meals a week to support the restaurant industry.

The thing that provides me the most comfort is our data that reports on how many people are currently sick. I guess I feel less bad going somewhere if I know the number of active cases.

Makes sense to me. If you are okay with it, then I say go for it, it's your choice.

At current, no. I'm too at risk so would wait to see if there was a jump in cases before I dine out. I would continue to do take out once a week, only because its limited amount of contact, basically they drop the food at the door and ring the doorbell, because I have a ring I can see them anyway, tell them thanks and move on with life.

I do tip the drivers very well because they also put themselves at a decent amount of risk.

Florida is weird though. parts of the state has very little risk, south floridia is the biggest chunk of cases and where you get most of the yelling at wanting their freedom. And let me tell you, there's plenty of people who live in SOFL who think of the rest of the state as banjo land, with no desire to visit it.

But you are harming my mental health which is worse than physical health...

btw; when school starts will you go back to work?

Time to go see my grandkids...

1. Not until I feel it is safe. When will that be? Not sure yet. It is an ever evolving situation. I will make the decision based on the info I have at that time.

2. Not at all.

But I want to see people wearing masks when they are out in the street. It is not OK to be near others and not wear a mask. Do what you want to do but don't affect others negatively please.

It pisses me off when people who are jogging come right past us within 6 feet and are also not wearing a mask. WTH. Selfish entitled covidiots.

What happens next when one receives an alert?

1. Would you go to a restaurant?

Yes....our area has so few cases I would be OK with life as usual with a few exceptions/protections.

I fail to see how I would be in danger if someone else goes to a restaurant unless I am also out.

I might suggest walking with a long umbrella or cane so that it can be extended when you feel like someone is coming too close...they will have to go around. ;))

Haha I did do that a few times. Plus my eyes really throw darts if you kwim and for the most part when I stare at said person they generally get the idea to move further away. And we are generally the ones who move but there are times you just have to say STOP to the other person. Which I have done as well.

It's exhausting to be honest but it beats the alternative.

The better answer would be for the grandkids to move in with DF and DD to stay away as much as possible at this time.
While rather blunt, Kenny is right.
No, we will only babysit their kids during working hrs otherwise it is their responsibility, besides that they'll miss interacting with her kids.

"In a series of tweets, Trump said the White House task force he formed in March would not wind down, as he had suggested on Tuesday, but would instead add some advisers and focus on 'SAFETY & OPENING UP OUR COUNTRY AGAIN.'

Trump changed his mind after the reaction to his Tuesday announcement showed how popular the task force was, he said.

Asked later if Americans will have to accept the idea that by reopening there will likely be more deaths, Trump told reporters: 'You have to be warriors, we can’t keep our country closed down for years and we have to do something. Hopefully that won’t be the case, but it could very well be the case.'"

Trump wanted to close down the task force and get rid of that pesky Dr. Fauci, whom he did not allow to testify in front of the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee today when they asked him to. (Gotta keep Dr. Fauci's mouth closed.) Too bad the task force was so "respected" . Trump claimed he was very surprised to hear from so many people that they liked the task force, that he had no idea it was so popular!

In other words, he wasn't going to get away with disbanding it in the dark of night. Foiled again!

You can play with this calculator to demonstrate the effects of social distancing.
Bare in mind this calculator only accounts for initial infection in just 5-40 people. Pay particular attention to how infection rate goes up with the r-value change (covid-19 estimated around r:2.5 with no lockdown measures). If everyone visited their family and friends, the stats in multiple high level papers, this will directly contribute to more deaths, so this is more about community effort than individual freedom

Graphical representation of the effects of lock down: https://www.politico.eu/article/coronavirus-europe-lockdown-effectiveness-graphics/

Without proper contact tracing and a vaccine in the near future, it'll be difficult to lift these restrictions entirely. The lock-down at least will stagger hospital admissions to avoid overwhelming healthcare systems. With concerns regarding privacy and contact tracing, google and apple have moved a decentralised encrypted key code system to alleviate these concerns. The NHS on the other hand has opted to a centralised system which may cause more privacy concerns. But unless there is a good uptake, it will fail, which is a shame having already been a proven effective system in other countries.
