Question: would you wear this as a daily or not?

I told my wife, out of 100 people, 90 won’t notice, 9 will enjoy seeing it, 1 will hate.
I would wear it. It just depends on the person I guess . Frankly I doubt anyone would notice what I wear as far as jewelry goes. By and large most people are busy doing their own thing and will not pay attention to rings. As long as you live in a safe area and she can wear it with a smile then I would say - If she loves it that is all that matters.

I would wear a 6.75 ct oval for special occasions and going out, but for everyday, I think the max would be a 3ct. Your wife is so lucky that she has the option of getting both.

That being said, I'm looking for a 6-7ct in an elongated shape for my next upgrade....My ring size is 5.5, but I have long fingers, and I'm 5'7. Plus my next big purchase would be for a 25 year anniversary (yes, probably have some years on you guys), so I would probably feel comfortable wearing a 6-7 ct everyday when the time comes.

Honest answer, no.

I like big stones to look at, but many days, don't even wear rings that I own. If your wife actually wears them, that's different, I guess. I would find that too large to be managable for daily things like work, grocery store, etc.

At one point I thought of getting something close to the 5 ct mark for a diamond, but decided it really didn't fit my lifestyle which is casual, where weeks go by that I don't wear any jewelry at all. Really depends on the person.

If you gave me the choice between the 3 ct LG pear OR both, I'd chose the 3 ct and do a really great trip where you will have lots of memories for your anniversary, foregoing the 6.75. YMMV.

Dimensions are 14.87x10.7 iirc. Ring size 9 because of 3 pregnancies.

A 7.6ct round is massive!!

Oh I can relate! I’m a size 6.5/7 ring size. And actually my round is a deep antique cut so it is not as massive as you think at 12.35 mm diameter.

Ok, now that I have more data, I say go for it!

This an approximation of how oval should look on her finger.

I mean I guess I could return the big oval… would be sad though considering it’s such a nice little piece. Wife says the 3ct pear is enough. I think the idea of the big oval hasn’t completely become natural yet.

My wife goes maybe it’s too big…

Then shows me a pic of Beckham with her pear.

I mean come on now… who’s she kidding. My wife has gotta love the big oval! She’s just toying with my feelings now.

Wife would not go near this. Too "look at me."

Big sapphire in that price range: maybe.

One of the wonderful things about lab stones and synthetics is that they untangle “cost” from “appearance”.

Twenty years ago wearing a large diamond-looking-thing signalled “major money here”. Now, though, synthetics are better, labs are infinitely less pricey than mined… That same diamond-looking-thing could mean “major money here”, but general social consciousness is aware that it might very well not mean that!

It does say “flashy”, though, no way around that. So if your wife doesn’t have a “flashy” personality, it might make her uncomfortable for that reason, irrespective of strangers’ possible presumptions about how much it might or might not have cost.

Definitely not everyday. I'd be afraid of being killed for my ring! I also wouldn't want the attention it would bring. I think going from 1.5 to 3 cts is a noticeable and large jump (and realistic). I wouldn't go larger than that, personally, as I rarely see diamonds over 2 cts where I live.

So I’m thinking about logistics. Nevermind what it looks like to your wife. As a pharmacist will the chances of it being knocked around while at work be high? Will it attract unwanted attention and put her in danger? Have the economics of the lab diamond market stabilized sufficiently for such a significant purchase? Or maybe that is not a concern for you. Then if you include her personal opinions about her comfort level with the size, and that she is happy with the size of the 3 carat pear…. Well, this is stuff I would consider. Best of luck making your decision. Most importantly, I think you should not rush it. Let it marinate. I don’t think there would be a shortage if you decided if you wanted it.

I live in the Middle East where bling, flashy and OTT are the norm for many. But even I wouldn’t wear that daily. My engagement ring is a 4ct radiant and I don’t feel it’s large or that noticeable. The 5ct I tried on however seemed to scream “look at me” and I felt uncomfortable with it. Just a personal view though.

I do wear rings much bigger than that with coloured stones / cocktail rings etc. but I just wouldn’t feel comfortable with a diamond engagement ring that size.

Time to offset some visual attention with my gold Hublot watch.

I think that is a pretty apt comparison, actually. As opposed to, say, a slim white-metal Patek. If that watch fits in with your lifestyle and social circle, then I'm sure you know their tastes better than we do and a 6-ct solitaire would probably feel right at home. That's helpful context.

I would probably say it’s not a good idea to wear the large oval to work.

Or a Royal Oak. That would definitely get my attention. ;)

Then will it be “daily wear”? I mean if it’s for special occasions only then she can bling it out and 6 carats may not be such a huge concern.

But TBH I am visualizing her putting her hands into small bins, shelves and drawers all day, and I can easily see the ring hooking onto paper bags with prescriptions, knocking it against the top of a shelf, whacking it on a scale. A pharmacist works with her hands all day. If you get it you should consider a very low, bezeled setting. And will you insure it? Will lots of strangers see her wearing that big rock in a daily basis? I worry more about her safety more than anything else.

After reading you are a doc and she a pharm and seeing the visual @lulu_ma posted with it on her size of a finger, I am now team yes! Perhaps a more protective for everyday wear?

I thought so, too. I’m biased though, I’m a doc and eventually I would like a 4ct-ish lab solitaire that’s about 10mm diameter to wear on my off time, and I’ll keep wearing my bands and/or smaller pear at work. I have a few other things I’m saving for before that, though, and I’ll be interested to see what happens with the lab market over the next few years. I do think a stone of that size would be challenging during the workday with gloves/etc. but they have a plan for that. So I say go for it!

i'd wear it daily np but i'd be prepared for people to assume it is fake or have nosy questions.

@joey_v I know you have done a lot of research and you have a generous budget (hence the big oval and pear), but I have to ask have you considered one of these for the optimal light performance? I mean look at the ASET. This is, of course, is earth mined, but I’m sure Rhino could cut you a large lab version. Or, you could just buy this one, bezel it and she could wear it everyday…

Although it’s an amazing gesture to want to give your wife such a beautiful diamond,I would be uncomfortable wearing one of that size. Especially if she is casual, 5’ tall and not flashy, a smaller size may be the better direction.

Not me. I'm 5' and I rock my almost 4 carafe EC and no one even notices it . I wear it because it was my moms' .

I wouldn’t wear it everyday. I get uncomfortable wearing my 3.01 mrb or my 4.14 total emerald cut ring in my avatar in certain situations. I’m visiting my mom in the nursing home today so purposely chose a smaller diamond ring to wear there..mainly because there are people there that can’t afford any diamonds..let alone a larger one..
There’s also the safety issue of the oval being very large..I would be afraid she would be a target..
It is a gorgeous diamond though..

She works one day a week… so it’s not an every day thing where she has to go to work with the ring. Figured no ring or smaller pear for that.

I don’t know I’ve tried on a few honkers at jewelry stores and definitely thought I would wear this. I do think that rings are not as glaringly noticeable as we think. Seem huge to us but from a distance still a small speck and people are busy with their own lives and own thoughts not clocking every detail of other people.
They may flash for a second oooo that’s pretty. Woman at my lash place had a huge pear and I tried to admire it but even with my avid interest in jewelry it was hard to get a great look at it.

Oh I see. I thought she was a full or at least half time working pharmacist. If she is at the workplace only one day a week and she is not at work 6/7 days and in safe areas then that’s definitely less concerning.
