Please Help an Indecisive Old-timer: Do I reset my MRB?

I am soooo glad you're keeping your MRB! Your stone in the Superbcert setting was the very ring that sucked me into PS in the first place!!! I just love that solitaire! No matter what you decide, it will be a stunner! :appl:

I am not sure you can compare apples to apples with quotes if you have one for an empty setting versus ones that possibly contain the sides. I think I would be remiss if I didn't say make sure you get all the costs upfront so there are no nasty surprises at the end and if there are any issues with you wanting to know the final costs run a mile. I can understand your preference based on overall stone placement and more fluid lines by comparison to the others (I really do) but I think you need to have a clear indication from the outset so you don't go down the same ugly path that I did....

I think if you showed Steven a picture and explained EXACTLY what you wanted he would come pretty darn close as well, but ultimately it's your ring, and I totally understand if you love something and have to have it and nothing else. You are purchasing a stock design (unlike me) so it should be far far easier in theory, just make sure you have a full estimate from the outset, then hopefully that will help you avoid any problems.

Yay Demelza for being able to keep your beautiful MRB!!! Now you have the best of both worlds and don't have to choose! :appl:

I have no setting ideas to offer and I love what you have decided on (love pears!) and please be careful who you choose to do this very important project. I know you must have the 411 on a recent occurrence so I know you are taking everything into consideration. Best of luck and I know you are going to end up with an amazing ring! You are one of the loveliest people on PS and I am thrilled you are able to keep both amazing stones! :appl:

Beautiful stone Demelza!! I would definetely reset to create 2 different looks!!

I've added Tweeters besutiful ring by SK. I would choose him or VC.

Thank you so much for the pic from Tweeters! I hadn't seen that and it's very helpful to have another rendition.
Do you mind if I ask why you would choose VC or SK over LM

You're welcome Demelza. The reasons has nothing to do with the quality of work. I think all three are masters of proportion and have a great eye for detail. I only have expetience in working with VC, but I am a fan of all three when it comes to their work. I would choose SK or VC because of their constant customer service. I never ever saw any complaints about them here on PS or other boards.

I found another photo on SK's FB.

Love the three stone idea! Pears would be my preference and either SK or LM would do a fantastic job!!

I agree. :(( That was one reason I decided to go with SK because I had a good idea of what I was getting myself into for $$.

I would imagine your sidestones would be smaller than mine (thus less expensive), but tough to tell. At least you have an idea on the "max" you would spend (at least with SK), although I am not sure what color your center stone is? If you need higher than G/H, it would be more.

Did you get a quote from SK? It might be worth it to give you a general sense of the total $$'s.

My center stone is a G, so I believe they would source H pears. I did get a quote from SK, but for the setting only of course. The cost of the setting was significantly higher than Leon's quote. Honestly, my guess is that this setting will cost roughly the same with all these guys. Perhaps SK charges less for the pears, but more for the setting? And Leon charges more for the pears and less for the setting? VC's quote included two 25 point pears and I don't know the cost breakdown. Hopefully I'll find out quickly the total costs once they receive my stone. Seems like there should be a better way to do this, though!

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. I will indeed get the total costs before I sign anything and then just hope for the best! I'm glad everything was resolved for you.

Thank you so much for your sweet words, missy! I feel the same way about you. And your OEC is probably my absolute favorite ring on all of PS!

Acinom -- Thanks for that picture! Gorgeous!! I think the bottom line is they would all do fantastic work!

I wanted to update this thread and let you all know that my stone is currently with Leon awaiting a reset into a three-stone with pears. I'm at the stressful stage of picking side stones, but once I do, it should be done in about 4 weeks! Thanks, everyone, for chiming in! I'll post pics as soon as I have them.

Exciting! Look forward to seeing the final product. (Your old cut is stunning too!)

I am excited for you! I can't wait to see the pear proportions and finished product! :twirl:

I am really stressing about the pear proportion issue! I would love to hear your process and how you ended up with the size you did. I have two options: one is to go with 30 point sides and the other option is much larger at 45 points each. I have gone through all the photos I can find of Leon's version of this ring and it appears that the center stones are anywhere from 6-8 times the size of the pears, but I'm not sure how much carat weight tells the whole story. I sent Leon the following two photos as examples of the look I'm after: one is Kristydarling's 3.56 with 57 point sides and the other is Ayala_Jessica's 1.85 with 30 point sides. Leon said KD's is representative of the smaller pair and AJ's is representative of the larger pair which is confusing because the ratio of pears to center is the same in these rings (center is about 6 times the size of the pears). Hopefully they don't mind me using their gorgeous rings as examples. So confused!

Which one do you like the look of better? Choose one over the other and go with that!!!! The ratios are similar but if you look at the pics you posted the top one looks like the pears take up about a third of the diamond visually in a line across and the bottom one looks like they take up at least half the stone or more if you put the same imaginary lines across where the top and bottom of the pears start. Meaning if you look carefully the the stones in the bottom example appear larger overall than the top example.

So, if you go with the .30 carat stones with your diamond then they will take up about a third visually of the stone across ways and if you go with the .45 they are going to take up around half or more across the centre of the your diamond like the second example. Work out if you want the pears to be more delicate looking, if you want the centre stone to pop more against them (by using the first option) or if you want them to run more in a line and look more like a substantial three stone (in which case you would pick the second option.)

Well for me, it ultimately came down to the shape of the pears. My choices were 1.04ct (fatter pears) and the one’s I chose which were .85ct. (skinnier). I did want my center stone to pop as an ER, so I went with the smaller skinnier ones. For you, as a RHR, I would not be opposed to going bigger, because it might look less engagement like (less focus on the center diamond), if that makes sense. It is a different look, so it comes down to what you want to achieve. Both would be beautiful (and I would still struggle making the decision myself). To be honest, I have thought of resetting my ER (yes already) and using the current pears I have with my 2.3 ct MRB for a RHR. I think the look would be cool, but I already have money invested in the pears and would want to reuse them!

Do you have pictures from Leon you can post? I have attached a picture below of my choices and the votes were mixed on PS (I picked the ones on the right)!!

Also, here is Kristydarlings pear picking thread that might be helpful, she ended up selecting the biggest set that LM presented to her. But it may help you compare proportions. I studied it quite a bit, because it was such a hard decision!!!

Arkie -- Thanks for weighing in. This is a much harder decision than I thought it would be.

Thanks for the pics of your choices and for the link to KD's thread. Both were very helpful. I spoke to Leon on the phone and he looked at the picture of KD's ring and said that if I really like the proportions of KD's rings, I should go for the bigger pair. But he also said that if he starts making the ring and feels that another choice would be better, he will let me know. I told him he knows the look I'm after and that I trust him. I've never seen an LM 3 stone I don't like! Thanks again for your input!!

And just so I'm clear -- you're thinking of dismantling your SK pear ring? And remaking it for your 2.3? Then what would you do with your 3.2?? Details please!

Ha, great question! If I could simply reset my 2.3 in my pear setting I would, but of course it was made for a bigger stone. RHRs are so much harder whereas there are several settings I would pick for an ER! I wish you could pop center diamonds in and out of settings...I would want to own a ton of them!!!

This is going to be a great ring to look forward to Demelza!
And indeed, Leon does not make 'average' or ugly rings. They are all stunning. I can't wait to see the finished product.
