Happy New Year 2021 Nirdis! I hope each of you is happy and I send my love and wishes for health, prosperity and all that you wish for in 2021.
@missy MaryAnn and Ginger are up for a fantastic year and will enjoy seeing the world from a bike, hikes and beach walks! Thinking about you and Greg lots and hoping and praying for good health. It really isn't fair but these are things out of our control. Fun leggings, delicious food and bling always make one feel better!
@mrs-b I feel the same for you. It's hard to hear you are in pain and it's not fair. You are smart and focused and jewels and nirdi are a great distraction! Thanks for the suggestion for a blingdream thread. 2020 really was an amazing bling year and I'd love to document it. I have 3 stones to be set hopefully this year...blue zircon, pink spinel and 2 fly heart diamonds! My bling budget will take a hit this year lol bc hubby will be getting lots of dental work done and possibly braces. We haven't started the project yet but will soon. This will be good for him. Anyhoo, wishing you and your hubby a wonderful 2021! I know you love Christmas and I hope it was really good for you. I LOVE your opal earrings!! Beautiful on you.
How many nirdis are blinging it up in their pjs? I've been wearing my studs, a necklace and a rhr with my pjs and loving it!
@Austina HNY! I can totally see you in gorgeous diamond stud earrings! They are such a staple. You seem like the kind of girl that would get a lot of enjoyment out of killer studs!
@MamaBee I am beyond thrilled and excited for you!! I cannot wait to see 3 carats of F VS1 ice on your finger!!!!
@marcy How are you loving your new beautiful ring? I need to see more pics pretty please! Are you making any delicious foods? I made red beans sausage and rice yesterday. Today I'm hoping to make banana bread and shepherd's pie. Cook n freeze is the mode I'm in! I hope you and Marty have a wonderful 2021!
@Scandinavian I LOVE your bracelet! Would love to see more pics too. Your snow pics are gorgeous! My hubby loves the snow and is very jealous.

Hello lovelies

Thank you for the poem @mrs-b, it’s all far too true! Glad I managed to perk you up a bit

Love the photos of the snow dogs @Scandanavian, it looks sooooooo cold there, keep warm and toasty.

Wow, what a great walk yesterday @missy, you’re very fortunate to be surrounded by so much wildlife. I miss Dottie and all the places we’d take her, the people we’d see, all the other dogs we’d meet, and the occasional deer we’d encounter. You know you’re my go to pal for advice on old cuts, I’m keeping that as something to look forward to when things finally get back to normal and we’ve moved and are all settled.

How lovely of your friends to offer to drive you to the hospital, it’s at times like these, you know who your true friends are. That’s great that Greg is second on the surgery schedule, the surgeon will be ‘warmed’ up when he starts on Greg.

How fun to have more projects to work on @bling_dream19, I can sympathise with your DH about the cost of braces, I could’ve have something pretty sparkly for the cost of my Invisalign

How’re all the NIRDIS doing? I’m really trying to keep positive even though they’re now talking about a 12 week gap between the first and second dose of the vaccine, that means the March visit is definitely off :( At this rate it’ll be almost 2 years until we see Adam and Kim again.

We went out for a walk this morning, oy, it was cold, my face was numb when we got home. We’ve watched a few films over the last couple of days, all of which I’d recommend if you haven’t seen them.

The Contender
42 The Jackie Robinson Story
Bombshell

I hope you’re all having a good weekend, keep safe and warm. :wavey:

HI:

NIRDI shout out!:wavey:

@Austina I really enjoyed The Contender. We watched Pitch Perfect (all three) over the holidays and it was better than I imagined.
@MamaBee did the biopsy results come back for your Mother (skin)? Hope everything is fine.
@bling_dream19 yup jewels and jammies all the way!

Difficult to believe it is time to go back to work. Wasn't I just there? Funny thing is, the less I do the less I want to do. LOL Once upon a time, I worked in immunization programs and am thinking I might again--if called upon.

The weather has been fine so we have been walking and getting our Vit D--nice bright days. And we see some coyotes from a far. LOL. Luckily they are not interested in us.

Stay safe and well!

cheers--Sharon

Hi NIRDI’s! What? I haven’t posted since Thursday? Happy New Year!

@Polabowla I hope you had a great weekend!

@missy your new earrings are fabulous; great baskets they are in too. They look perfect on you too. That is so nice of your friend offering to drive you and Greg in for the surgery but it’s hard to accept an offer too. Great pictures from your walks; seals and deers too - oh my!

@springerspaniel I hope you had a great New Year’s weekend.

@Austina I always get excited to put out Christmas decorations then about December 26th I am ready to take them down. We still have snow on the roof so Marty can’t take down the lights outside yet. I enjoy them though. Ooh thinking of getting some old cut studs. I saw where you were getting some serious cold weather there.

@Slick1 sending you a Happy New Year too

@MamaBee when will your gorgeous diamond arrive?

@MMtwo wishing you a fabulous New Year!

@mrs-b I keep meaning to tell you how much I love your 3 stone ring that is in your avatar. It is amazing. That is wonderful eating keto helps your joint inflammation. That’s worth it. We have one Christmas cookie left. I am sure it won’t last the day. Good luck with your tests and appointments this week and mega dust they find ways to help ease your issues and pain. Big hugs to you. Sometimes a regular old family doctor can connect the dots better than specialists.

@Scandinavian great snow pictures and cute furbabies!

@bling_dream19 I am totally loving my new sapphire, I’m hot and cold on the ring - it’s fine but I just wish the band was a bit thicker. It’s not so thin it will bend but I guess my other rings generally have more bulk. The beauty of it is I can always trade the ring in towards another one. I honestly don’t see one online I prefer. Good idea to get some dishes made and put in the freezer. I haven’t done much in the kitchen for a few days but my SIL wants some more of my candy cane cookies. I plan on making them as drop cookies and using the bottom of one of my glasses to make them look fancy. Less work but will taste the same.

@canuk-gal I am with you I can’t believe it’s time to go back to work. I’m not eager for my alarm to go off at 6 am tomorrow. Glad to hear the coyotes don’t think you look like a tasty snack. Marty was bent down fishing once and had the funny feeling he was being stared at only to look around and find a big old gray wolf sizing him up. The Pitch Perfect movies are great.

I slept in a bit enjoying my last day before returning to the rat race. I lifted this morning and we went out for lunch. Marty's sister took off for Denver already; she has to go in to the office this week Monday and Friday. She rented an AirBNB for tonight. I think that is what she plans on renting for the 8 months she'll be working but so far I think she is enjoying staying here with us.

We are having a high wind day; and it actually knocked me over walking in to the restaurant. Right on but. Guess I need rocks in my pocket. I have a sore but and arm on the right side and my back and neck are a bit stiff but nothing serious. Marty and my SIL were sorry they didn't have a video of it. The wind was coming at me sideways and was knocking me around and then a gust knocked me off my feet. I said they got dinner and a show.

I finished my latest Connelly book. It wasn't my favorite of them.

Take care

@canuk-gal Yes the biopsy came back as a precancerous lesion...She’s getting it burned off next week. Pretty good news because I saw it in time. The fact that it grew right on the edge of her graft made me suspicious. Thank goodness it wasn’t a full blown basal.

Thank you @canuk-gal that gust caught me just right. You are right we need to worry about wind as well as ice. My SIL is relocating to Denver. They don’t work in the office everyday yet though. She plans on retiring in August. She works for the census bureau and will have in required time for full retirement this summer.

@missy GREAT BALLS OF FIRE! Your earrings are so beautiful, and they look perfect on you! I continue to think of you and Greg and January 13 is circled on my calendar for sending extra healing vibes to you. Oh, and what fun to see seals. I think they are a riot when they are playing. Thank you for asking about the paper. I just finished and submitted it. It could be a couple of months before I hear back from the journal, but what a f$%#ing piece of work this was, 6 years in the making. I am not nearly as fluent as the fine @mrs-b! Good luck @mrs-b on getting through all of your appointments and getting taht much closer to feeling relief.

Hi everybody! Happy New Year. You know I love seeing your dog pictures @Scandinavian, and the landscape is so peaceful looking. Also, what a gorgeous bracelet. Would love to see the colors in more photos, if you have time.

Speaking of dogs, I can't wait to hear the update on Bertie, @Austina. And please let me live vicariously through you and @missy regarding old cut studs. We all need a few extra studs in our lives....

@MamaBee I am really looking forward to seeing your new diamond. I am glad you caught the lesion early.

@marcy I am with you on the Connelly book. A disappointment for sure. How much are you lifting these days? Are you seeing results? And yes, we can never have too many rings. My favorite kind of jewelry, although I'm not wearing much of anything these days because of wearing so much PPE.

Hi and wonderful New Year hopes and wishes to @bling_dream19, @MMtwo, @junebug17, @Bayek, @GK2 (my husband never fails to remind me that I am 60 days older than he), @Slick1, @canuk-gal, @Daisys and Diamonds, @Polabowla. I'm sorry if I left anyone out, but I am tired and still need to write a review of a paper and a few other things before sleeping.

Oooh, I don't recall seeing your moonstone earrings! Any pictures? There was a pair on Lang's site a few days ago that went in a heartbeat, unfortunately not to me.

Yay for getting your paper submitted @springerspaniel That is awesome. I am lifting 115 pounds and pressing 35. I plan on working up this month. Yes I notice a difference, it has made many things easier for me. I feel batter too.

Good morning lovely ladies and happy Monday!

Thank you sweet @bling_dream19 and thank you for your unwavering enthusiasm and support. You are the best. Hope you and your sweet hubby enjoyed a fun weekend.

@MamaBee so glad you caught your mom's skin cancer quickly. Good going!

Glowalicious @canuk-gal

Thank you for asking about the paper. I just finished and submitted it. It could be a couple of months before I hear back from the journal, but what a f$%#ing piece of work this was, 6 years in the making.

So excited you finished it and hoping it is as well received as I think it will be!

I am glad you slept in a bit and lifted too. And glad Marty's sister is enjoy staying with you. I hear you on the high winds. We get that a lot here and I don't enjoy that. We often lose power with high winds. Do you guys lose power ever? I cannot recall you mentioning that. Darn yo are sore but glad it is nothing serious. At least you are reading books lol. I need to get back to enjoying reading books. I don't know why I cannot concentrate. Hoping your Monday is a good one @marcy.

@missy If you need me to “come on over” please just let me know. Seriously.

Thank you @Scandinavian, I appreciate that. I am very stressed and worried and know I have to take it one day at a time. Greg's well being is weighing so heavily on my mind.

@Slick1 hope you enjoyed the rest of the holiday weekend and continued good thoughts to you.

@mrs-b continued healing vibes and lots of well wishes. Hope your pain has subsided and you can get the surgery you need as soon as possible.

@SallyBrown I know your surgery is scheduled for this month. Thinking of you.

@MMtwo good morning and hope your weekend was a wonderful one.

@Austina how are Adam and Kim and Bertie doing? Glad you got to enjoy walking despite the cold and thanks for the film recommendations. We watched the Nutcracker on Marquee TV and it was from the 2019 performance. The Balanchine version which is my favorite hands down. And I am here for you when you are ready to hunt for old cuts. I am your girl. :)

@Bayek How are you and the new home and how is your family? Thinking of you.

Hi to everyone else. Hope all is going well this New Year.

Saturday we hiked and it was a good hike.

Greg is in the background.

Yesterday was a rainy cold day so we ran much needed errands.
Today we are planning a good hike in the woods despite the cold. It isn't raining so yay.

Have a marvelous Monday lovely ladies. XOXO.

From the performance we watched at home. First time I watched this from home and I have to say it was lovely. Nothing beats a live in person performance but this came close being snuggled up on the couch with Greg and the kitties. It didn't suck.

Hello lovelies

I’m assuming you and SIL get along @marcy, otherwise it’s going to be a looooong few months  Yikes to snow still hanging around, it’s pretty cold here, but not cold enough to snow where we are. Yep, there’s talk of another Beast from the East hitting us this week, good job we’re not going out:lol: I hope you’re not feeling too sore today after your fall.

DH did really well @Scandanavian, your bracelet is just lovely, and so different being rose gold and champagne!

 Well done getting your paper completed @springerspaniel I’m sure you must be mightily glad it’s done and dusted as we say here. Bertie is doing really well, they had a little blip the other day when he tried to assert himself over Kim, as soon as Adam stood up, he realised he’d done wrong, and went and sat in his crate. I told Adam that he’s at the age where he’s trying it on to see what he can get away with, and that’s why it’s important to keep up with the training. He’s such a quick learner, Adam has taught him to give paw, and next on the list is roll over. He still gets very excited when playing with other dogs, and doesn’t always listen when called  They took him to register at a vet the other day, and they said he’s very healthy, and he wasn’t in the least bit worried about going in, quite the opposite.

What good news your Mum is OK @MamaBee, good job you’re so vigilant, one less thing you need to worry about. When do you anticipate getting your ring, don’t they know we’re all waiting.

Wasn‘t The Contender good @canuk-gal, I really enjoyed the twists at the end? I hope if you’re called on to vaccinate, you don’t have to have complete all the ridiculous courses they’re asking people here to do. Honestly, I understand people being medically qualified, but some of the requirements are just plain stupid. I wish they’d just GET ON with vaccinating people, we’re all waiting.

I hope you’ve had a good walk today @missy, I don’t mind the cold at least you can wrap up, but walking in the rain, no thanks. Keep focusing on the operation being over and Greg being on the road to a complete recovering, don’t let other thoughts crowd your mind, you’re going to get through this together. Our satellite TV provider is doing something similar, showing live performance, it’s a great way to keep the arts alive. I must admit, ATM I’m just watching things I don’t have to think too much about, if that makes sense, but it sounds like you had a lovely evening snuggled up enjoying the ballet.

I wish I could share the video Adam sent of Bertie, he’s laying resting his head in his lap and Adam’s stroking him, he’s extremely attached to him already. Kim calls him a traitor as it was her who pressed for them to keep him:lol:

I hope all your medical appts go well @mrs-b, and that by some miracle, your pain is bearable.

We’ve started decorating again today, we’re on the home stretch now. Well, I say we’ve started, we moved everything in the bedroom over the garage, I wiped down the woodwork, we covered everything up, only to discover we’d run out of paint! Colin rang the Farrow & Ball shop and arranged for us to collect some this afternoon, so I spent the morning painting the woodwork instead. We’ll get cracking on the walls tomorrow, it won’t take long to get it done.

The PM is making an announcement tonight at 8pm, looks like we’ll be in complete lockdown again, perhaps until Easter. :( Oh joy!

Keep safe, warm and well :wavey:

HI:

NIRDI shout out!!!

I agreed to work all week, not sure why! LOL

The weather is very decent for our neck of the woods at this time of year. I'll take it.

I took down most of the holiday decorations (and sani-wiped them ) but I am leaving the tree because the lights continues to cheer me up. And my poinsettias still look great!

@Austina I actually bought The Contender on DVD (back in the day) and continue to watch it on occasion. Just so well acted. I am happy that the new pooch is in good health!!!

@Scandinavian sweet bracelet!

@missy hang in there!!

cheers--Sharon

Hi NIRDI’s!

@missy yes I bet you have lots of wind by the shore. We do lose power occasionally but not a lot. It’s usually more from downed power lines that break from ice on them. I totally get why you can’t concentrate to read right now; too many things on your mind. Keeping you and Greg in my thoughts. I can’t find Greg in the background - I feel like I’m playing where’s Waldo. Nice to watch a performance at home. Very cool.

@Scandinavian your bracelet is so beautiful!!!

@Austina I do get along with my SIL - in many ways she has a similar personality to Marty. I imagine she’ll be as sick of us as we are of her by the time she actually finds a place to live. Ha ha. I saw that headline today about the beast from the east. Our worst storms come from the north. I have one pretty sore spot on my butt where I hit the ground - at least it is the most padded spot on my body. That’s good Bertie is doing well. I am so happy for them. Yay for being in the home stretch for decorating. Crap to be locked down again.

@canuk-gal that was nice of you to offer to work all week. We have one day down and 4 to go. Good luck!

That alarm at 6am was quite annoying. I was rather busy at work though so the day zipped by. I filled out the on call schedule for my team for the year, worked on my self appraisal - what a work of fiction that is; but I have no intention of listing anything I did wrong or should work on - why give my boss any ideas? Next I’ll have to write appraisals for my 4 employees. I told my boss today one of them should be put on a performance plan but I’m not doing it - with 2 less employees if they left him go we are screwed.

Take care.

We did enjoy another lovely hike yesterday and today we must be out of the house for at least 6 hours. Why? Because we hired another electrician to hook up our new generator and that means the electricity to our house has to be shut off for hours while they are doing the complicated transfer switch hook up. I am anxious about shutting off our power for so long and just hope it goes smoothly. Truth be told I would have preferred this not done now but it just came together yesterday afternoon and Greg wanted to get it done. So fingers crossed it goes smoothly.

Please email me the video if you can @Austina I would love to see it.

Very cool.

Thanks Marcy. Today our power will be shut for many hours...I explained in my post to Austina. I am glad you don't lose power often. Hmmm OK here's another photo easier to pick Greg out from haha.

:)

Glad you completed the on call schedule for the year at work and yes that 6AM alarm must be rather annoying I am sure. Hope today zips by too.

I am with you. We are keeping our tree up for at least the next month or two. It's a "winter" tree after all :)
I hope your work week goes well and is interesting without being stressful.
Thank you for your encouragement. I am happy your poinsettias look beautiful still and yes to letting the lights stay on for as long as you want.

@Scandinavian yummm I love your new luxurious bracelet. Looks delish on you.

@bling_dream19 hope you are having a good week of the New Year.

@mrs-b good morning, I hope your medical appointments are going well. Have you scheduled back surgery?

@SallyBrown hoping your surgery goes smoothly. Thinking of you.

@Slick1 hello, hope you are having a good week.

@MamaBee any blingy (or otherwise) updates?

@springerspaniel hope your week is going well and you are staying comfy cozy and that your paper is well received.

Hi to everyone else. We had a good hike yesterday and today we have to fill up 6 hours or so due to the electricity being shut off to our house while our new generator is hooked up. It is a cold day but at least it isn't raining right? :)

Enjoy a lovely Tuesday all. XOXO.

Leaving you with a photo of Samson eating a fish head on our property. LOL look at that tongue. As for the fish head it is the risk we take living by the sea haha.

He seems to be enjoying himself. Like we don't feed him enough. Sheesh.

Good morning, NIRDIs!

Just a quick shout out to all you lovely ladies, as my Crohn's is flaring badly at the moment and it is taking me dooooown!

@springerspaniel - looking forward to hearing about your paper!

@missy - counting off days with you. How is your ankle feeling?

@marcy - will you hate me if I tell you the mental image of you being blown over by the wind was the only thing that put a grin on my face yesterday? I would hate it if you hurt yourself, of course, but just the idea of a lady being blown about by a gust of wind is so... I can't find the word. But - no malice intended and I hope you're ok! (I also wish I'd been there to see it!)

@canuk-gal - what do you do for a job? I hope your week goes smoothly! I've got my tree up, too, and I'm leaving it up for a bit yet. Everything else is down, but I just love my tree. Here's a snap of 'me and tree':

Oh - and I'm leaving the lit garlands up till Valentine's Day. I agree - they're winter decorations.

@Austina - we're doing our bedroom, too, over the next few months. Just new furniture and carpet. The furniture is a dark wood and the floor boards are that very modern cyprus, so we're carpeting - which is nice in MA in the winter anyway, so, altho I love floorboards, I prefer bedroom carpet. I toy with the idea of adding a dressing room so we could get all our clothes in the one room, but the idea of living with builders....yeah...no. I hope all goes well with your project - will you share photos when you're done?

Love to you all and wishing you a wonderful week!

Luminous photo @mrs-b

Thank you for asking about my ankle. I have OK days and not so OK days. I think it's a ligament. Least of my worries right now of course but I appreciate you caring. Today we have to be out of the house all day and are getting ready to leave. To say I am apprehensive about how the events will go is an understatement but we soldier on...one day at a time. Sending you lots of love and healing wishes. May 2021 be a good year for all of us. XOXO.

Hello lovelies

I just loved your post about the 2 oiks in the diner @mrs-b  Good for you for telling them off. They just don’t think. Most of the rooms we’re redecorating are repainting in the same colour. Nearly all of the house is Farrow & Ball Off White, the sitting and dining rooms are F&B Old white, and one of the other bedrooms is painted in F&B Teresa’s Green. I love their Estate Emulsion, the coverage is superb. The only room that’s had a real make over was our bedroom, we bought all new furniture just over a year ago, I like very modern, so I’m not sure it’ll be to your taste. I agree about carpet in the bedroom, I don’t like putting my feet on a cold floor.

I hope the new generator has been installed and is ready and waiting should you need it @missy. I’m sorry to hear your ankle is still bothersome, all these issues are the gifts that just keep on giving! I hope you found something safe to do for 6 hours.

How does that work doing a self appraisal @marcy? “Marcy is a very diligent worker, who is punctual, polite and above all an excellent team manager. She always goes above and beyond, and with this in mind, I recommend that she be given an extra week vacation time, and a 50% raise” There you go, done

Good luck at work this week @canuk-gal. You must be very green fingered to keep your poinsettias alive, I’ve never managed to get them to last more than a couple of weeks.

Well, as anticipated, we’re now in lockdown again, only allowed out to shop for essentials, 1 hour of exercise a day, or medical appointments. This is probably going to be until March, and the hope is all people over 70 ‘should’ be vaccinated next month. Ultimately, it doesn’t make a lot of difference to our daily life, but it’d be really nice to be able to see our friends again. We’ve already reconciled ourselves to the fact we won’t be visiting Adam and Kim in March, just hope this lockdown pushes the new infection rate down.

We finished the bedroom today, and tomorrow we’ll work on the stair well down to the hall. We’ve cancelled Ben coming next week to paint the other ceilings, we can still do the walls and woodwork in the meantime.

I hope all the lovely NIRDIs are doing well, keep safe and warm. :wavey:

Our new Generac is hooked up and hopefully ready to work in a power outage. We hiked 8 miles while waiting for the call it was done lol. At least we used the opportunity to hike more than usual. :)

@Austina thank you! I loved the video. Bertie is a handsome handsome baby!
Greg spoke to his friend Simon (Eastbourne) this AM and he also thinks the lockdown will be til March.
Listen to this. He is actively dating on match.com right now. How? Why? LOL.
