I forgot to tell you, I checked the gem fair but no icy jadeite in sight. Will do the b&m stores when I'm back end Nov again.

That star is going into a ring for sure. Probably this setting. The HK guys will be here next month so I get to play mix and match soon :) received_1508132479243198-1.jpg
Thank you for looking out for me, Burmesedaze. Much appreciated! That setting will be perfect with the star. Love love love it! It looks very orbit like with the double rings, which goes so well with a phenomenonal gem like your star.

Picked up these 2 rings today. A Malaya garnet from ACS Gems and a 2.x ct peach pink spinel with an orange feather from a few weeks back.

Sterling silver settings plated rose gold and don't they look good? Each ring cost just us$7!

Sign me up as another who loves the color of the spinel and is gobsmacked by the inordinately high prices you have to pay for settings :lol-2:;)2

We went to Bogyoke market today and found a stall with these pink Mogok spinels. Decent colours but not the rest of the package.

A 17ct very included big whopper for US$15,000. Not for me  20171102_131452.jpg 20171102_131435.jpg 20171102_131411.jpg

Saw a few unheated and untreated Mogok rubies today from 1 - 3 ct today. These run pink so are very affordable. They are included and not as translucent though. You can see the silk at the girdle for a few of them. The smallest loose on the hand is 0.8ct which I can't decide if it's ruby or sapphire colour. 20171104_135304.jpg

A 2.7ct cornflower blue unheated unheated Mogok sapphire that's not as dark IRL. Is bottom heavy and has inclusions running across the surface. Nice colour but not that sparkly and faces up small. Passing on it.

Jadeite delight :)

My 2 jadeite trays from rough to unpolished tray form. To be sent for polishing. Unfortunately the workman is toon stubborn and removed the boulder cover despite being told several times to leave it!

The vase or container behind is from the same boulder as the tray with dark green patches. Nicely polished. Which I just bought :) Has lovely patches of lavender.

For such jade, all type A. 20171104_142529.jpg 20171104_142533.jpg 20171104_142536.jpg 20171104_142556.jpg 20171104_142608.jpg

Super lovely Burmesedaze! You are so lucky to be able to commission jadeite trays and a vase! I love the colors in those. I also like how one can still make out the form of the boulder in the tray.

I keep asking my friend in Mandalay where there's a large jade market to do one too! But he keeps saying he doesn't know how to tell A jade from treated jade.

I wasn't planning to get the vase but it was completed today and brought in. I thought it had nice lavender patches compared to the usual near white or olive green utility jade used for these carvings and decided to get it. Still cost a few hundred dollars though. It also isn't as crackly, just 2 lines at 1 side and 1 frontal near the top but aren't surface reaching. You have to look closely to realise they are there aka stone lines. The sister tray has a lot more cracks.

The vase has substatial heft, weighs over 1 kg. More photos below.

This lavender patches are lovely!
I wonder why they didn't make a bangle out of it?

It’s got such a majestic presence just in the jade pattern and grain with the colors. It’s beautiful! What a great find. I would have bought it too.

Ko Zeyar is the male cousin of my jewellers and the jade guy in the family biz. His dad owns jade mines :) these are not from his mine. So he grew up with jade and it's not always about the profit. It's more about scarcity of decent jade rough in the local market suitable for larger carvings.

There are plenty of bangles in three market as they sell easily. It requires more thought and artistry for these ornament carvings. He's quite a character. Very good English. His prices are based on what he assesses you to be lol.

Ahh thanks for explaining! I looked at that and thought "Oh those patches would be so nice on a bangle! So pretty!"

There's a photo of a lavender patched jade boulder, huge, I posted a few months ago in this thread. We are still waiting for the jade bangles to be carved (I need a 68mm inner circumference as I have inflexible palm bones, thanks to all the piano playing and boat rowing).

A lot of the lavender becomes light after carving. I also thought it's uniform i.e. the colour in the rough will be the same after carving. But it's not so. So I guess it's less risky carving a vase that people will still want to collect regardless of colour intensity vs a bangle that may not be as lavender.

We think the bangles when ready will be a much paler lavender with plenty of white.

Would you mind posting a pic and the rough price when it's done?

This lavender pea pendant was carved from a very lavender rough I saw. This was a sample carving and turned out much lighter with plenty of white patches. The beads for the necklace were even paler lavender than this.

I paid just us$30 for the pendant as Ko Zeyar wasn't happy with the colour. It covers the carving and polishing fee. Btw the polishing usually costs more than carvings for smaller items. Which is why many Facebook China sellers with rough sell unpolished carvings and pendants and only send for polishing after they are sold.

Not all jade take a good or smooth polish. Usually the older jade will take a better shine and young jade not so much.

The colour may also intensify or go lighter after polishing.

We don't know lol. The jade mine owner is trying to have them carved and it's a first endeavour for them. They usually sell the rough away so they lack the expertise on how to carve and how best to position. Different skill set.

My jeweller and I each commissioned a bangle and we expect to pay. But don't know how much and how they will turn out. Neither does the jade mine owner :)

All I know is, the rough is somewhere in Mandalay to be carved.

The Boulder has so much earth magic to it. Jadeite is just SO BEAUTIFUL! Whether bangles, beads or pots, that rough is going to be wonderful carved.

Hotels are very affordable now thanks to oversupply. Grab and Uber launched in Yangon this year. So it's much easier to go around.

Just the gems, jade and pearls going northwards in price each passing year!
