My 3 Mogok moonstones, 2 bought on Facebook from a Mogok based young seller.

Ok, they definitely look best on black. Th 20171105_151756-1.jpg 20171105_152720_HDR-1.jpg 204950-960x960-pear-shaped-pendant.jpg e sheens and colours are different and equally mesmerising in their own ways. The baby was supposed to be 6.7ct but only weighed 5.6ct. We had the option to return it for a refund (US$3 by courier from Yangon to Mogok) or she will do better on the price for my next purchase. Opted for the latter ;-)

We will also repolish the 18ct to make it more even and to buff out some light scratches.

I have in mind a 2 piece moonstone pendant design with the 18ct. The cushion would go into a ring and the baby just to keep for the time being. 20171105_151742_HDR-1.jpg

The last shot is a nice lesson in moonstone !

The scattering blue is memorable ... & the kind of beauty drilled by prices & tradition & whatnot - not without reason. I ws surprised by how obviously beautiful the one with a light yellow crystal base looked as you held it (in another photo) - I can imagine YG would be very friendly to such moonstone, as i isn't really to the rest of them unless backed.

20171105_153913-1.jpg Also added a small Mogok 0.8ct ruby to my collection. Pending lab memo to test for no heat and no treatment. Brought my 1.01ct slightly larger sister ruby to compare. The 0.8 has more orange-red to the larger sis' pinker hues. I wonder if they are from the same mine.

Not your classic red ruby but I'm drawn to these lighter shades than the pigeon blood colour. 20171105_153850-1.jpg

.

I hear you for ruby colours ... & anatomically correct, IHMO

These are my ideal - aside what is supposed to be 'Flame' spinel Red.

Admitedly, there is more of the dark blood ...

So pretty! Moonstones are just in a place that belongs only to them.

Thanks for the idea! It would be awesome in YG yes! Perhaps on a yellow gold neck circlet for some dramatic flair :)

High 5 to that! I do think my first few rubies are enough of that "dark blood", though they look absolutely stunning under a good light source.

These lighter shades are imho happier colours I could see myself reaching out more for!

There was a French gentleman at Gem Museum today asking about the star sapphires and commenting how they are too small. Your 2 lovely rings immediately sprang to mind when I heard him say that!

It really is a struggle to find larger stars. I can’t even imagine how hard it would be sourcing then these days.

I met an ex colleague that was based in Yangon 22 years ago when he was a young man. He told us that the ladies then all wore big star rubies and sapphires to accessorize.

I have yet to see a big one on anyone's hand here!

I wish I could see that! How fab that women used to wear such dramatic gems!
I just visited a jewelry gallery. They had a star ruby, sterling silver bracelet. The stones were really ‘low’ quality, but nicely polished and decent asterism. It was super sleek, edgy and modern looking. They also had a huge black, asymmetrical star ring in dark silver and high karat gold. Also very modern looking, relatively upscale artisan jewelry with lower quality but larger stars. No high quality stars, of any size.

I'm on a work trip presently so my jewellers sent me photos of the polished jadeite trays :) IMG-0957ac72c733de93faf310f1d890de23-V.jpg

I'm currently on the road on a 10-hour drive from Yangon to Bagan.

Other than passing time by shopping online lol, my jeweller also bought this pair of moonstones for me from a trader at their shop this morning. The photos sent by them over Viber. Both weigh over 5ct together and we managed to get it down to below US$100. Check out that blue sheen! That blue sheen is so enchanting! That sounds like a great price as well.

I had the most amazing time in Bagan at Black Elephant Studio chatting with the British Ukranian lady that has lived there for 20 years and runs her own workshop with about 20 pax! She's devoted the past decades to the art of lacquer and original themes and designs. She also experimented with different pigments to produce these!! I have more awaiting collection except I leave Myanmar for work tomorrow :(

A few shots with one of my sapphire rings to stay within topic in the CS thread.

I know I keep saying this... But I really have to go on low/no buy for a while!! 20171114_013604.jpg 20171114_013547.jpg 20171114_013527.jpg

Suffering major CS withdrawal symptoms, haven't had the chance to head to Chinatown to check out the jadeite shops. My other diamond bangle has to be sent away to be customised for size.

So I compensated with this diamond bracelet from a b&m shop! It reminds me of Peranakan tile motifs, with over 4ct of diamonds. Best of all, it fits, no alteration required!

I was deliberating between these 2 pairs and bought the ready set earrings in the end. 18k gold, with diamonds. Negotiated to us2250. Pending certification, should get them this evening. IMG-f7fe415af29f152e488f52efb43ef186-V.jpg IMG-75b659792e08d73fef3949f1870334e8-V.jpg

Other misc glassy jadeite. They also had a big necklace of them. No photo. 20171130_114028.jpg

Is this kind of jadeite completely untreated? Very nice...
