Hi Everyone,

I'm a newbie here but been a longtime lurker. Have found everyone to be so knowledgeable and supportive. I have fell in love with the asscher cut and have been wanting one forever. My DH finally gave me the ok to look for one, this will be my upgrade/10yrs anniversary/push gift. I started looking last year during my first trimester and had reach out to GOG since upon research they are the goto people for asscher. Had looked at several diamonds but didn't end up buying once since I find the person not very helpful and I didn't trust myself enough to pulled the trigger. My DH had then suggested to go with a family friend. He had purchase my engagement ring through him. He found me 2 asschers that had great GIA reports but didn't really call out to me in person. I had also requested for ASET image in which he had no idea what I was talking about. Needless to say, I've decided to not go through him. Being dissappointed and extremely tired since I was toward the end of my pregnancy I had stopped looking for the stone. The baby is now 3 months old and my DH would really like for me to start searching again. I am reaching out to GOG again and hope to find something this time. My budget is about $40k, do you ladies think I will be able to find a good stone?

Thank you Gypsy so much for your response! I really appreciate your help in this. I will reach out to JA on these 2 stones. I did look at the H color stones on the website but didn't reach out since I have read that color shoes much easier in a stepcut.

I would also reach out to Yekutiel at IDJewelry because he had an amazing selection of Asschers last time we were there. And I thought the price was fair and Yekutiel and his staff are very helpful. Just call him and see what he has in inventory.

Thank you Missy, I really appreciate everyone help. Will do that as well. My DH don't understand why I insist on getting an assche, since they face up smaller.

Asschers are spectacular when set in a halo like VC and SK do! It increases the size a bit. I would reject that first JA one because the table is on the larger side but the second one is good. I limit tables to 65 but prefer smaller. With the smaller tables, you can have a much nicer crown.

To me, this is one of the most flattering settings for an asscher/EC stone -- just phenomenal!

This is another GORGEOUS asscher setting by SB, however I'm almost certain DK did a replica recently that was pretty spot on (even the bands).

Oh gosh, yes, the SB setting is one of my all time favorites, particularly for an antique asscher! Caysie and Steven Kirsch have done similar settings.

So I had reached out to JA requesting ASET and they told me I'm only limited to 3. Do you ladies see another stone on their site worth looking at?

From my many months of lurking and drooling over everyone rings. In general I love the way asscher a look, so to me every settings are great with it. But I know I want mine to have Steven Kirsch do the setting. I have my mind pretty set on setting it in with trapezoid side stones.

That Art Deco setting is gorgeous!! Love how it stacks so beautifully with the smaller bands.

See the asscher in the Steven kirsch halo on jbeg? Can someone link that for her? Can't do it now. Great price if you don't mind the K.

I have sent in the ASET image request on the 3 stones that was recommended with JA. And Yekutiel from IDJ have very kindly responded to my inquiries as well. He had sent me link to several asschers that fit my budget from his inventories. Will take a look and decide how on which diamond to ask for ASET and hopefully see in person. Several of the diamond do have SB fluorescence and I have not have any experience with it. Do you ladies think it is one that I can consider?

And speaking of jbeg, I am looking at a ring for my mom and have been emailing Grace on it. Am looking to get that for her as her 60th birthday present. Especially since she's been so helpful throughout the pregnancy and with the baby. Both DH and I really wanna get her something nice.

I love fluorescence! Strong blue is rarely a problem especially since you are looking at higher clarity in asschers.

How very sweet of you to be thinking of buying a ring for your mom!!!

I don't know how to post links either, but Leon Mege has two 3 carat asschers on his website under instock pieces. Both are G's. One is set in a beautiful halo. The other with bullet sides. Check them out and see what you think!

Keep one in reserve. There's nothing else worth it in budget and over 3 carats.

Use Yekutiel's experience to your benefit. Tell him to pick 3 asschers he personally thinks are bright and lively and send you pictures and ASET.

I am fine with bigger tables as long as the crown height is okay. And on that one I recommended I think it looks okay.

If you have that sort of budget and are looking for a knockout stone, have you considered asking GOG if they can custom-cut an Octavia for you, like Dancing Fire's custom cut but bigger? ;))

Search on youtube for 'dancing fire octavia' for a video of it, or DF has posted several drool-worthy threads on here, charting its 'birth' :sun:

Kenny has also posted some excellent pictures of his to whet your appetite :))

And debi1960 and xinran74 have posted a video and pictures respectively:

There are several other threads with pictures in (just do a forum search for 'octavia') and I want one badly  but apparently men around here aren't allowed diamonds in their wedding ring  :(

I saw the LM ring with the bullet sides a couple weeks ago in person. I thought it was stunning. If you are close enough to stop by in person, I think it would be worth taking a look at to see if it appeals to you.

That's another great setting option!

I love the small table on this one. It has a darker step in the center, but the faceting overall is very pretty. I don't see anything else.

I see a potential p3 problem in this one DS? How about you?

I see it but think it might be small compared to the overall beauty of the stone. I adore high crowns and small tables the most! Just thinking optimistically! Most asschers have some downside, but I'd likely rather have this over a large table, personally (subject to seeing the images, etc.).
