Does a Vatche U113 and BGD Hearts & Arrows Sig make sense?

Hi,

In my quest for the perfect Tiffany clone, it seems like I'm reading that the Vatche U113 is the closest replica of the Tiffany 6 prong knife edge solitaire setting. I'm also reading that for maximum brilliance, I want a hearts and arrows, of which Brian Gavin's are the best.

Are these two assumptions true, and if so, why doesn't anyone spring for this combination? Is it needlessly expensive (b/c I'm guessing BGD doesn't sell a Vatche, and a Vatche dealer won't sell BGD, so there'd be alot of shipping around involved)

What about just going for Brian Gavin's Tiffany knife edge reproduction setting, and his hearts and arrows signature diamond?

why not go with GOG or WF for the diamond if you want the Vatche setting?

Brian Gavin does sell some beautiful h&a stones but he is not the only vendor to do this. Check with other PS vendors as well - there are several that sell h&a stones that are equally as beautiful.

Not sure where you have gotten the idea that BG's diamonds are the best, but they are AMONG the best...along with hearts and arrows stones sold by many vendors including Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash who DO sell Vatche! My strong suggestion is that you look through the inventory of WF and GOG and see what they have that fits your specs. I have found lately that their prices were comparable and even better than BG in many cases. My diamond and Vatche setting were from GOG, and my daughter has a diamond and different Vatche setting from WF. I also have diamond ACA studs from WF. I consider those stones equal to the "best" anywhere.

Ditto the others, make it easy on yourself and get an ideal cut hearts & arrows stone from Whiteflash or Good Old Gold or James Allen since they are Vatché dealers and this will save you the hassle.

I am also not sure where you got the idea that Brian Gavin's are 'the best.' Just FYI, Brian Gavin started Whiteflash and I am sure had quite a hand in deciding what would make stones 'A Cut Above,' and I believe WF's standards are still just as good even though Brian has left that company and started another. And we have seen many equally stunning stones from GOG and JA, as well.

I've seen Vatche U113 in person but not BGD's.

As someone who was looking for the closest T&Co. knife edge solitaire in the past,
I would say that Vatche U113 looks closest to the "real" thing when the center stone
is one carat and smaller. I searched high and low and concluded that to me, there is nothing like the authentic T&Co. setting.

That being said, I don't like to get ripped off at T&Co and there are many beautiful knife edge solitaires, not just Vatche U113, if I don't expect them to look exactly like the T&Co. setting.

I think I like the look of BGD's knife edge solitaire but in some pictures the knife edge looked a little too sharp and I don't know if I will be bothered by the prominent horizontal line on the side of the band. Since I like the head & prongs of BGD setting a lot, if I were to buy a knife edge solitaire today, I would see if BGD can soften those edges a little bit.

Thanks for the help.

I am not fond of that horizontal line on the side of the band, located just under the base of where the diamond sits.
Other than that, the BGD looks identical to a Tiffany setting to me.

I noticed that the Vatche U113 is around $1900, vs $1250 for the knife edge Brian Gavin Tiffany setting.

What is accounting for the large price differential? Is the Vatche heavier, have more platinum, or is just how much Vatche charges for his design? Which designer has better craftsmanship?

You are paying a little more for the designer name with Vatche, and I think the setting looks best. I also do not like the sides on the BG ring. You weren't able to find a diamond at WhiteFlash or Good Old Gold?

Yep, you are probably paying a little more for the designer name.
Vatche is beautiful but it also costs a little more...
