So, verdict? I''ve been hiding in my bedroom with the door closed while SO watches the debate.
I''ve just been hiding. DH has been sleeping. I can''t stand debates for some reason. Never could. I read HERE, and listened to live-feed clips here and there, but Palin''s voice gets on my nerves for some reason. I''m really sensitive to voices. Must be the singer in me...

I''ll watch some on Youtube later probably.

Gala, I''m going to say Biden won, but I came in at the Achilles heel question, and I don''t even think she knew what was asked of her.

Also, there''s really no such thing as racism against whites, as whites are the majority. Without power, racism, sexism, etc. isn''t racism or sexism.

Oh thing trust me..you really don''t want to there. I have HAD people be racist against me for being white. That is complete BULL CRAP!

Oh I do want to go there! Have you ever taken a class on race, class or gender? It''s a basic tenet-without power, there is no such thing as racism. Have you really been denied any opportunities because you''re white?

I am leaving this thread right now before I get myself banned from PS. Night thing..thanks AS USUAL for the fun.

You''re welcome!

You know what..let''s just agree to stay out of each others ways since things seem to always go badly. I think that would be a good idea.

What went so badly?

You got personal, as usual.

Come on, guys.

Sarah was offended. She''s entitled to her feelings, whether you feel they are justified or not.

But see that''s the thing Lucky, I am not entitled to my feelings. And whenever I try to express them I get attacked.

So when you state your opinion, you''re expressing your feelings, but when I state my opinion, I''m attacking you? Huh! How does that work?

How did I get personal? And why do you take everything so personally?

I''m surprised that Palin was wearing black. I was expecting red or blue.

Why so? I see that she likes to wear black a lot.

I think the black suit worked well with her hair. Must be a white thang (hehe) because FI (yes he''s white folks) has dark hair and looks hot whenever he wears a black top...
3.gif
Mmm hmmm! It''s a contrast thing. My guy (pic is over in the faces to names thread in the Hangout) is fairskinned with dark eyes and hair. Love that coloring combo, it''s always been my favorite. Blondes? Nice but...meh...

And yes, she looked good.

You''re the one that''s upset. How does someone that isn''t upset stay ''out of your way''?

My thoughts exactly!

Not really Sarah. You expressed your feelings. Some of us disagreed with your view. You became more and more insistent that your view was correct. We just didn''t capitulate to your version of racism. That isn''t being "attacked". That is recognizing that what YOU believe in WE didn''t.

Then you got "upset" and said you were leaving, and suggested that people who differ should stay "out of each others way".

I think you were correct when you said it was upsetting you, and you were signing out. The internet is not worth getting upset over. However, YOU were the only one I saw getting upset. Do you see it differently?

So when you state your opinion, you''re expressing your feelings, but when I state my opinion, I''m attacking you? Huh! How does that work?

Call me biased (which has jack to do with Dems v Republicans, I''ve taken Soc courses on both race and gender), I knew exactly what you were talking about and it wasn''t offensive. I think, based on what Lucky said has happened to her recently, she is sensitive to it. I would love to post a really great Tim Wise article which addresses a similar situation (white girl was abused by blacks because she was white), but it would be pointless. Her feelings were hurt and no amount of knowledge regarding the facts of Sociology will help. I think it would be best to just ignore her when you realize she is personally offended. Otherwise this could go on forever.

S.O.S. Didnt hear anything different.

I loved S. Palins suit. Wouldn''t mind knowing the designer

How did I get personal? And why do you take everything so personally?

That's right, it's my fault. And I am "paranoid." Let's see in the past few weeks alone..you've questioned why I am such a "rabid conservative" (that was the phrase you used, correct? correct me if I am wrong..maybe I am remembering it incorrectly..but I do remember distinctly you demanding I explain why I am so conservative - when I am actually pretty moderate), you've questioned my personal finances, and now you're even questioning my education. When I state my opinions or experiences - you want details that I don't ask for from you. I accept your opinion, state that I disagree, and move on. You demand some excuse for why I feel the way I do or try to find some reason why I feel the way I do - you start questioning my background immediately. Why can't you just accept someone's opinion, state you disagree and why, and move on?
33.gif

P.S. Yes, I have taken Soc.
20.gif

ETA: And one more thing! That's right. I'm educated. So scary!
2.gif

Anyway, gosh darn it, you betcha, while the debates are interesting, does anyone think that they sway people to vote? I wonder how many people listen and think "wow I never knew they supported/believed that, I''m going to vote for ___________________".

Do people wait till debates?

It seems weird to ask someone to state they disagree and why if you aren''t willing to say why you have the feelings that you do. Just sayin

Oh the point wasn''t just Soc, it was particular classes on race and gender which is what she was referencing (and you took as a personal insult).

I don''t think it sways people that have already made up their mind. However, it can instill more confidence in a person you already support or convince you that the one you do not support isn''t as bad as you may have believed. So yes, I wait on them debates!

Then let me be more specific I have studied both race and gender in the classroom. I am willing to say why I feel the way I do..when I am not being attacked or demanded of that I explain why I feel the way I do. It''s rude and ridiculous.

Ok, well from my point of view you were not attacked, she simply stated facts from those courses to support why she didn''t agree with you.

ETD Misread your post.

Anyway back to the "debate"...I watched it on NBC and was listening to some of the commentary. I''m shocked that people (and not conservatives) are either calling it a good night for both of them or "palin''s night!" Wow....

It is your fault, because you take offense to me disagreeing with you and decide I''m attacking you personally.

I''m a curious person and I like to know the reasons for things. You said you were discriminated against for being white, so I followed up by asking what opportunities you''d been denied because of your race. You''re the one who threw that out there. Why can''t I follow up?

And why is you being educated scary? Am I missing something?

I WILL say that her sound bites were better than normal for her, but at the same time, she just made no sense in the majority of her comments.

CNN Quick Vote:

Who fared better in the vice presidential debate?
Sen. Joe Biden 76% 25015
Gov. Sarah Palin 22% 7287

i know!! we were on NBC too. we thought it was a fluke for the first two or three people that commented that way....after like the fifth we've switched to CNN.

wtf? she didn't bomb but she didn't dazzle. she only answered half the questions! i guess the bar was just set so low that par for the course was a mind blowing victory

They said she knew how to "debate" which DOES mean answering only what you want to answer, spinning, and skirting around questions you don''t like, and doing it somewhat skillfully.

Yes, expectations were low, but I was still surprised to hear all the positive reviews so far.
