Brainstorming setting for tsavorite

Hello!
As some of you know, I've recently acquired a tsavorite from Bruce @ Bridges Tsavorite - a 0.91 ct Medium+ cushion.
(My search can be read here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/looking-for-a-tsavorite-on-a-budget.177922/)

Over the last month, I've returned the rest of stones I was looking at, collected refunds (my bank account is back to a bearable amount :)), and am now ready to start working on the setting.
The stone is 6x5.04mm, while the fingers I'm likely to wear the ring on are size 9.5-10.5. So my first order of business is to figure out whether I'm interested in visually enlarging the ring by adding side stones.

Has anyone ever paired up tsavorite with anything other than diamonds?
I'm considering stones of the following color: yellow (sapphire), light blue (sapphire, tourmaline, aqua?), red-purple (rhodolite garnet).
And I have no idea of potential shape yet, will come back with sketches though.

Also, considering how small side stones would be, does it make sense to look for them myself, or should I ask the vendor that'll create the setting to supply them?

Thank you all!

Although I haven't kept track of who, there have been a number of creative souls on here who have created various color combos. I would start by looking through TL's threads, as I believe she did a bypass ring with a tsav and another color (as well as some beautiful combos of chrysos and sapphires, IIRC).

Good luck!

Beautiful stone, I have to check the stats. I recently bought a stone of the same color, not from Bridges, but I can see how yours looks like, congratulations!

In the works, I have a mint garnet which I am setting in rose gold in a halo from irradiated diamonds which look not pink but slightly violet-purplish. I have seen the combo together, and it is absolutely unbeatable. Someone recently posted a photo of a green stone, I think, a peridot, in pink sapphires, made by HOW, and I liked how they looked together. I also plan to use tsavorites as side stones for a lilac spinel, but I think in your case the side stones have to be slightly more saturated. However, pale-purple spinel should look fine.

I do not think yellow colored stone is good as a combo for this tsavorite. Any tsavorite has a certain degree of yellow, and yellow side stones will bring it out. TL's stone was a bypass. the stones were not placed side by side, and I think she used orange spessartite. For this stone, blue or violet or even pink will drag out the blue component. But they have to be light not to overshadow this lovely stone.

I have seen tsavs set with a bright orange spessartite and also hot pink spinels. I would not select yellow as it will dampen the blue undertone. Light blue might work but that is more subtle than my initial suggested colours.

My iPhone can't handle the sparkle so everything looks super bright. Still, you get some idea about the colour combo.

Chrono, perfect tsav. LOVE that color!

Minous, thanks for the references!
I think I found some samples of TL's collection (soo drool-worthy):

I see that pink and green are a popular combination, as well as yellow and blue and intense purple and green... Biggest lesson of TL's posts, however, is that matching stones of similar saturation is a large part of creating a good match.

Arkteia,
I totally forgot to consider spinel! I have some purple spinel earrings, so I'll be checking that out for an idea.
And you're very right, I have to be careful about the tone of the sidestones - I tried the tsavorite next to a some australian sapphires (dark teal ones), and the sapphires looked completely dark next to the tsavo, which really distracted from it.
I also know that rose gold looks amazing with mint garnet, but wonder whether it would clash with the tone of my tsavorite.

Chrone,
Your stone looks fantastic! I also really like the size ratio of your tsavorite to the pink spinels. :)

Chrono, I can't believe I spelled your name wrong. I am sorry!

Meanwhile, I took some fluorescent lighting photos (in kitchen lights mostly with flash) of my tsavo with some of the learning stones I have, to play with color combo's:

Tsavo with Columbian emeralds (for kicks :))

Tsavo with spessartite (from what I've read on PS, mine has a brown mask to it. Also, lots of fingerprints).
The colors do set each other off, but orange is far too bold for me to wear on my finger. Even in small amounts :)

Tsavo with sapphire.
Maybe with a lighter and more blue (rather than steely blue) color, I would like this combo. As is, the colors do not complement each other.

Tsavo with aquamarine (which I liked)

So now I am curious to find some tiny stones of lilac (pinkish purple) and cornflowers colors to try next to the tsavo (I think my first step will be to ask Yvonne if she has any in her inventory for me to look at).

No worries on the name. ;)) I've tried the tsav with seafoam Afghan tourmalines and found the combo really made the tsav stand out and also brought out the blue undertone beautifully.

Mhm. Afghan tourmalines are probably a much better alternative to acqua, in terms of color saturation, at least, right? Also, from what I remember they're only slightly less hard than garnet on the MOH scale?

Also, took some 8am overcast outdoor color comparisons this morning:

How crazy do you want to get? Sounds like you want something subdued but still have an impact, correct? If so, then orange and hot pink are definitely out. I like a rich amethyst purple or light (but bright) blue or even slightly greenish blue, sort of like the below:

Green is a cool color. I often prefer to couple cool and hot colors together, since to me, I think two cool colored stones (or two hot colored stones for that matter) can take away attention from each other. JMO.

I love the combination of color that Chrono posted above with her tsavorite and the pink trillions. To me, that is perfection of color combination.
