I know many were rather ambivalent about my pink and green combo but my character can be pretty headstrong in an effort to think outside the box. Per Packrat's request, here are preliminary pictures of the combination. I will attempt better pictures later because indoor photography isn't one of my skills.

Hand shot - sorry it's so dark and blurry.

I like the combo. I would love the combo if they were pinkish purple, vice purplish pink. I love green and purple. And don't worry, the combo as is doesn't read christmas. The proportions are great too.

I like the color combination, but feel like you should have a fancy shape to go better with the cushion. Not sure if it's your thing but I have been snagging cheap marquise diamonds off ebay. If you can get two that match, they make awesome sidestones set east west. They are so unloved I put together .60CTW for $100. I do wish I had matched the color/clarity a bit better but I really can't complain. Made for a very blingy custom ring.

For those who are concerned about putting rounds with a cushion, don't worry about the apparent clash in shapes because I have a plan to make the round sidestones appear squarish by using fishtail prongs.

Chrono, what are the sidestones again? For me, the color combo is okay, but it just doesn't sing to me. Then again, you must realize that I'm a stuffy traditionalist, and have a hard time seeing any colored stone combo beyond diamonds. Also, it's hard to tell from the pics, but is the saturation level the same in the sidestones as in the tsav? They look a bit lighter to me, and I think I'd prefer sidestones that match the center stone in saturation. All in all, you have a gorgeous tsav - don't compromise on the sidestones.

Cellentani,
The pink spinels are not as saturated as the tsavorite and that is partially why I chose them. I didn't want the sidestones to compete with the tsavorite the way the red spinels and rhodolites did in previous trials.

I am back from some quick outdoor photography so hopefully these pictures will not be too dark.

A kite shape orientation is a consideration but might be a little too edgy for something already quite out of the box with the colour combination.

Back under yucky fluorescent lighting which makes everything look dark.

I like the combination, but have some concerns about the saturation level in the side stones. On my monitor, in the light you photographed them, they look distinctly greyish, so I'm on the fence until you have a chance to take some photos in different light. I'm a big fan of the idea of the combination, though, and the shape of the sidestones doesn't bother me since I think the proportions are excellent. What metal were you planning on setting them in?

EdTA: Ah, I see the new photos.

Honestly, I think the side stones still seem just a hair weak and watery in relationship to that glorious tsav. I wish you could add just a drop more color to them.

EdTA again: I like Davi's idea of pushing the spinels more towards a purplish hue.

Tee hee!

I think I have to admit to the same. :cheeky:

I'd go for white diamonds, or maaybe yellow diamonds. Then again, I do really like Kaleigh's blue sapphire and emerald ring, which is a CS and CS combo.

I like the color combo concept, but these sidestones don't seem to do anything for the Tsav except possibly detract a little from its stunning-ness. Like others have commented, I think this spinel pair is too weak in color. I'm also not crazy about the round shape but maybe the fishtail prong setting would address that. Honestly, to me (and looking at the colors on my monitor), this current pair seems drab next to the Tsav and takes away rather than complements. Just my opinion, but I think with the rich saturation of your Tsav, the sidestones should be closer in color intensity. I guess my vote is keep looking, and maybe consider a richer more saturated pink (verging to purple not red). (Colored sidestones are HARD to pick out - so far I've had better luck starting with the sidestones and then finding the right centerstone, which I know is backwards.)

ok, i just voted a definite "nay".

however, this isn't for me....its for you. once again i say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder....and in this case the one who bought the stones and paying for the setting.

i do think much would depend on how you set the stones.......something more than the typical 3 stone ring might work even for me.

but, again, its your project, your stones, your $: i do vote for enabling you to do what YOU want.

While knowing that you could make anything look great, Chrono, I have to agree that the stones are underwhelming. I would like them to have more vibrancy and be more purple as Davi and others have suggested. I had concerns about the shape, but it sounds as if the prongs will work well to make them look more squarish. Those diamonds are gorgeous, and really, what's so bad about mortgaging your house for gems?!!! :naughty:

Sorry but it's a no from me too. I agree that an amethyst colour purple would look great but not a pinkish colour. Sorry!

Negatory, nope, nyet. It's tricky to get a pink that goes well with green. I think a dusky pink would look better. But IMHO, anything opposite on the color wheel will make the tsav pop -- yellow to orange family.

Dusky rose, sort of, maybe salmon. Just playin' around. Don't have anything to do while Christmas goodies are baking.

Or maybe merelani mint garnet for whole lotta green

Ditto! I think these aren't bad but you can do better. Amethysts would be a very pretty and inexpensive alternative. Purple spinels would be pretty too, but since they can tend to color-shift to blue, I'm not sure if I'd like them. I'd have to see them to judge.

The sides aren't wowing me either, I'm sorry! I wasn't sure about the rounds at first, but the fishtails would probably take care of that like you said. The color tho isn't working, to my eyes. I like the lighter pink, like what TL posted, or something darker like Davi did.

It's not my ring tho..so how do *you* feel about them?

no from me too.

i vote for a purple stone :))

chrono, i'm not a fan of the pale pinks either. i vote for purple. :)

Everybody is giving an opinion, and that's fine, since you asked.
But like MoZo said, it's YOUR ring......

For me, wouldn't be persuaded by those pinkish stones,
but I could def see that pair of diamonds TL posted...
Or just plain fire=white diamonds.
Something with a pale flash of brilliance.
Or maybe something purple...

U know, when I wear my neon-pink spinel ring (prong /solitaire)
together with my Tsavorite ring (rich gold / bezel) on the same finger,
all you see is that screaming pink.....
And it's a smaller stone.

So if you really want those paler pink sidestones, at least they won't detract.
I just think, like many here, they don't add.....

I would love to "love" that color with your tsav, but I can't make the leap. I'm very conservative, so there is that bias to keep in mind. I think two colorless diamonds would make the tsav just pop! I will leave quietly, now...

I may be in the minority... but I really like orange with green... Just a thought.

I am not a traditionalist, rather a color combo-ist, but I do not like this combination for a simple reason.
I have seen the photos of your tsavorite and I think it looks gorgeous. I am concerned that any colored stone may detract attention from the beauty and the perfect color of the stone, with theis beautiful blue-ish secondary. It will simply get lost with colored side stones. Perhaps small white diamonds? Not light-pink, just white? Trapezoids or trillions or just rounds?
I am playing with different colors now but in most cases, the stones are cheap or small, or the cut is not perfect, or they are too large and too bright to be worn alone. For a perfect stone like yours, I'd do something classic.

I just had a thought, and it may be crazy...but...what about faceted blue sheen moonstones? They wouldn't compete in terms of color, would complement the blue secondary, and would be a really unique look.

Otherwise, still liking the idea of a nice royal purple. Orange would also work, but it's for some people and not for others (e.g. I personally don't like orange, but I can see it complementing green).

More enabling?

Sadly, I dislike amethysts as sidestones for this ring as I feel the traditional colour will be too dark and with the low RI, will not be a good compliment for a high RI tsavorite. I did find a well sized pair of step cut rectangular Afghan tourmalines for this tsavorite but alas, they were sold out before I even had a chance to inquire about them. The safe backup of colourless diamonds are always an option but I guess I just want something a little different for this tsavorite.

kill one bird with three stones (or maybe add a few 5pt diamond melee too)
