Ok. I changed my mind. Buy the ruby now and perhaps save up for a diamond in x years.
How are you going to set your ruby? Is it a round or oval?

Thanks to all who took part; it seems I have purchased a pink/red spinel from Mahenge region, with the aim to purchase a diamond in the very near future and a larger ruby after that.

A spinel had been on my radar for a while, and one which appeared suitable just popped up. It has eased my hankering for a red stone temporarily.

If you love the ruby I'd go for it. Finding a nice ruby is a challenge. You can find great diamonds a lot easier.

Oh. I have just remembered my other issue. I wanted a round ruby. This one is oval. I think if it was round I wouldn't have asked the question.

Oh, it's an oval?? Well then I'd want the oval ruby, hands down!

I haven't received it yet but I have been told it's more brilliant and more red than the camera could capture. I'll share photos over in CS when it arrives.

if it was mine, to get more finger coverage id go with a classic vintage style plain shank cluster ( the last one sans the red petal parts)

Niel! You have no idea how close that is to what I was thinking. I had suggested to someone only yesterday a rosecut diamond halo, with colour change garnet melee second halo (blue/purple/goldy-green change depending on light). Great minds!
