Victor Canera or Maytal Hannah?

Hi all,

I'm new to ring shopping and was told that it's better to go with a custom ring because of price and quality over a major brand like Tiffany. I'm currently considering Victor Canera and Maytal Hannah for a 3+ct halo ring for my girlfriend with a budget between $75-100k. Anyone have advice on who is better between the two or if there's a third designer that I should consider over these two? Thanks!

I'm assuming you're looking specifically at hand-forged rings? Leon Mege and Steven Kirsch are often recommended alongside VC for delicate pave Halos. ERD has also been seen to produce some nice Halos as well, although I believe they use CAD/cast.

On another thread I saw VC compared alongside Mege and SK and it seemed like VC had just slightly better craftsmanship. I do like the delicate work that Hannah is able to do as well. Just don't know enough about rings to decide between the two.

Perhaps if you shared more information about your preferences, concerns, and hopes, the many talented posters here can give you more specific information. There are a LOT of types of halos out there and different vendors often have their own specialties (though all those you mentioned could likely make you a wonderful ring). Feel free to post links/pictures to show us the effect that you are going for.

I like both of these designers very much. They are both nice people and have done beautiful work.

But, for your project, Victor is the one I'd choose due to the fact he has done so many of these halo rings because his design and craftsmanship is outstanding. You can afford to go with the best, and you are fortunate in that regard.

I just went through this... I'm resetting my ering.

I received quotes from Maytal Hannah, Victor Canera, Leon Mege, Stevn Kirsh, Brian Gain and a few not on the frequent list. Eternity Diamonds by Yoni, and Sareen Jewelry.

Maytal was super fast and very affordable, very nice and accommodating
Perry at LM also very timely and very helpful with my dozen questions
Steven Kirsh fast detailed response but out of my price range
Yoni...the most patient man ever....and very affordable.
Victor very timely, great information and patient with questions
Sareen - I worked through Emma Parker Jewelry - Tim is awesome and I've used them before and would recommend them again.
Brian Gavin -always great customer service, easy to work with. By the time I made all the changes I wanted the ring was going to be
As much as going with one of the big boys... I was looking at the Eternal Grace.

It came down to style for me.

I wanted Platinum, four claw prongs, no donut at the bottom of the basket so my bands would sit flush, details in the basket but not in the prongs (pave). Traditional from the top down but with beautiful pave work on the band. So traditional and unique too. I spend too much time here!

I decided this weekend it would be Victor. It was not an easy decision. We have great vendors! Now to decide between the Evelyn Flush or Evelyn Open Profile. After speaking to Victor I'm no closer to a decision. But I ship tomorrow so I need to decide.

I would decide your must haves, study each setting and pick the elements that appeal to you. It will help some.

You could also try Mark Broumand. I have two of his pieces and his pave work is out of this world, also hand forged and quite affordable for what it is. I purchased one of his pre-made rings and I had a custom piece made. He is a really nice guy, got back to me same day and made the whole process pretty painless.

I think if you want the standard halo we have been seeing around here - Victor is probably the undisputed vendor to choose. Your budget seems to be able to accommodate it. For a fancier halo, I would consider SK or LM. Maytal can also do a fine halo (she made mine).

I know this is an old thread but I have the exact same dilemma...trying to chose between VC and MH. I’m curious who you decided on and if you were happy with your choice.

Old Thread

The original poster only has a post count of 7 and has not been on since 2016. Probably not going to get any feedback from this poster. You can
start a new thread and "@"persons_avatar to get their attention.

We have seen many VC rings in the last couple of years and they have all been perfection. I hear Hannah is very good also but does not seem to be
used on PS much any more. Not sure what the reason is.

Thanks for your reply. That’s interesting about Maytal Hannah not being used on PS any more...wonder why. I’ve been trying to figure out how to start a new thread and I’m not seeing how to do it. Can you please advise? Thanks!

I just wanted to chime in that Victor's work is truly exquisite, and he is a joy to work with as well! We are fortunate to have several amazing artisans from which to choose, but you absolutely cannot go wrong with Victor. If you would like to see more examples of his work, check out this thread (I started you off at the most recent page, but be sure to work your way back to page 1!). And be forewarned that you may experience beauty overload!!

Thank you so much, I just started a new thread. I have seen the VC thread...definitely beauty overload! MH’s pieces look stunning too, so it’s a tough decision!

Thank you! I have been pouring over these threads, haha. I believe I have seen your rings...do you have a not-too-close-up shot of the Emilya on your finger? Thx!

The Emilya Victor made for me has a topaz as center stone. The halo is also double sided and cushion shaped with a NSEW orientation. You will find more examples of the Emilya in the thread with Victor’s creations.
More pics of my Emilya in my thread:
