I don't know enough to tell the tone but is it kind of just strong, but not vivid in saturation? Yes, i also prefer VB's.

Reminds me of this one.

I do wish that VB wears those CS rings more often, instead of that cape color EC ring.

The red stone looks like a rubelite. .

The green is gorgeous but that red doesn't look as nice in the pictures.

I think it’s easier to see glow and clarity with their tables face down. The Duck Neck green one is closest to the camera and I took a shot of it by itself to show the glow. It’s dark toned and very saturated. The sun brightens the tone. The largest is my medium toned and looks very similar to the emerald in the ring photo (not mine). I’m setting that one soon. The fuzzies are from the cotton they’re sitting in.

DE2F6CE7-84E2-4E5D-89A8-92A0C620E239.jpeg This is my “ugly” emerald I forgot about. I promised Red_Fan a picture. It’s actually a decent color and way nicer than those Effy ones I saw at the mall, but too included for me. I think it’s around 2.2 cts. Not sure if origin, but color looks Columbian.

37445A93-C2C0-40FD-9C58-DE0C130A4F22.jpeg Ugly emerald actually isn’t such a bad stone after all. From an arm length this away, it’s kind of nice. It’s more satiny in artificial light. Morning light photo.

I see the difference from these...bluish green glow vs green glow! Thanks. You need to set them so they don't sit in a dark place!

Would "reoiling" help the appearance of this one!? I like the arm length photo since we generally enjoy them from this distance anyway.

Probably, but I have my other emeralds I enjoy more, and the oil has dried out long ago, and they still look a million times better than this one. I would forever think this stone is an ugly duckling (not a duck neck, lol) in disguise. The color is nice, but it’s just too included. The whitish inclusions disappear in incandescent light at least.

I’m currently setting the smaller one all the way in the left hand top corner. I have a setting that fits it, but my jeweler told me I need an 8x10mm deep size setting for the biggest one (2.8 cts - he weighed it). I’m thinking rose gold as it looks really neon and bluish in that metal. My duck neck was in a platinum diamond setting, but it got chipped during setting, so I took it out. It needs some polishing out. The smallest one will be set one of these days.

Your "worst" looks like that of the Halle Berry's old ering...:lol-2: I think that chunky bezel blocks light from entering into the pavilion.

Oh I’m sure her former e-ring is waaaaaaaaaay better than my “ugly” emerald. That photo is a testament to how awful some emeralds photograph. However, is it just me, but is that bezel kind of lumpy???

I see the girdle of yours but Berry's bezel comes all the way above the girdle...? I guess her is still lighted up.

It always scares me to buy a ring like hers because what if I paid for a doublet! :o

The duck neck sits very low in that setting. You have valid concerns about bezels and emeralds, not to mention the added stress it puts on the fissures.

I love that you show these face down. I have recently realized It is a great way to show the body color for emeralds

These are gorgeous!!! Thank you sooooo much for sharing them

How long did you spend just gazing at them?!?!

Our regular green lights are the perfect blue green (: Im sure theyre different everywhere.

And I know right?
Green light emeralds should be a thang

I never noticed the green light color until you all pointed it out and yes it’s a great proxy for the emeralds we can never photograph

Thank you @Sungura

I feel ashamed posting them to death in this thread, but I’m just frustrated with the photos so I keep trying. I don’t want people to think that all emeralds look like cloudy green glass, or those hideous mall store gems, lol!

They do glow, and the green IRL, as you can attest to seeing so many emeralds, is beyond what any camera can capture. I just hope my photo attempts in this thread helped people gain a deeper appreciation for this amazing gem.

First @TL this is your thread! So post as many emerald photos as you wish.

I think you have been able to convey the realities and nuances of emerald buying: a camera and particularly automatic cameras cannot accurately photograph an emerald and in particular an excellent emerald; nearly all emeralds are treated so educate yourself about these treatments and decide what you will tolerate and get a trusted lab report; inclusion and fissures are a reality and can add to the glow factor. While inclusions can contribute to the magical glow, they can also reduce stability.

This thread is so educational. Your knowledge helped me know what questions to ask as I explored the markets in Colombia I expect it will help many others considering an emerald purchase

Thank you @Sungura! Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread and all those cute boy ducks that waddle all over my neighborhood, that I pay much closer attention to, despite their chagrin!!

Add this for reference. At last year's Phillips auction, Lot 653. A 18.08-carat Colombian Muzo no-oil Emerald and Diamond Ring, Graff. Estimate HK$12,000,000 - 14,000,000 ($1,500,000-1,800,000). Unsold

"ducky" enough...:lol-2:

VB's emerald looks almost as big facing up...that was 1.5M ring:eek-2:!?

It’s beautiful but not as high quality as the 18 carat Rockerfeller emerald that Harry Winston bought for $4.5 million USD. That thing was not only top color, impeccably cut, but as clean as a whistle and very ducky.

817022E6-A4C8-495F-90F4-DEAA68D2A24E.jpeg Here’s another huge cushion. Angelia’s supposedly 65 carat ring. I think I only saw her wear it once. Maybe it was borrowed? It’s by Lorraine Schwartz.

The Rockefeller is still my favorite even though it’s a “measly” 18 carats.

That's why I didn't buy the Graff last yr and am still saving it up for the HW...

Bet certain celebrities always get to wear bling for free, win-win for the jewelers if he/she is well known enough or good friends.

I don't even really like emeralds, but I would literally sell a limb for that 18 carat ring! Probably a leg so I still had 2 hands for rings;)2

 Yes, it’s one of the finest emeralds to ever be unearthed, or gems for that matter.

..., sigh:kiss2:

And you know what, I just know that no photo or video comes even close to how it looks IRL.
