The spinel are impossible to photograph! They are really red, they match my necklace. 5.7x4mm

The emerald is a Chatham, I got it more out of curiosity. 9mm

And 3mm aquamarines.

I think these qualify, although these are doublets of sorts. Vhernier use slices of gems and then put rock crystal on top.

All the same stone, montage. Upper arrows show the horizonal position of the joins. Lower arrows point to a matching feature.


It's easy to fake with a black felt background!

Ah, the rubies. Because you asked about “giant lolly”, I thought it might have been the rubellite, because it because definitely meets your “not snot sized” criterion. The rubies are 5 ct. and 8 ct.,Burmese. I am sometimes asked whether they are antique. They are modern, but with an old world feel
indoors, bright light.

I too love cabs--so many awesome pieces in this thread! Cabs are so hard to photograph for me...I can never seem to capture their glow. Adding a few of my own...

Blue star sapphire from the 40s, affectionately known in my house as the TARDIS ring:
