Sugarloafs, carvings, & cabs! Share your best non-faceted gems!

IMG_1260.jpeg

I think these qualify, although these are doublets of sorts. Vhernier use slices of gems and then put rock crystal on top.

These are stunning! The citrine (?) and amethyst pair beautifully. Out of interest, do you ever wear the Vherniers on one wrist and your Bone cuff on the other? ;)

Staying on topic re: cabs, I absolutely love the Vhernier palloncino designs too

Thanks @Pomelo , the stones are Coral and Sugalite. You know my taste so well - that is what I bought them for - to wear at the same time as my bone cuff.

I love the palloncino pieces too :)

Mexican fire opal, set in onyx panel and 18k yellow gold. In direct sun, flashlight and shade:

I showed this before in the men's bling thread, but I'm showing it here too because I don't want these single topic threads to lapse - they are useful for inspiration and comparison.

This thread is for any gemstones without the polished flat surfaces called facets.

Fine non-faceted gems offer a GLOW that illuminates an entire room! Alas, lately, I am seeing fewer non-faceted gem posts... I'm beginning to think PS has lost their love for non-faceted gems; prove me wrong!

I think this is carved ruby and emerald cabs.

Don't want to spam the thread - but this is what I'm wearing today.

@HollyC Everything is so incredibly chic, so we're asking for a bullet point list with EVERYTHING, including clothes.

Thank you so much @RRfromR , diamond rings, Tiffany bone cuff size small, Vhernier sugalite and coral cuffs. The T Shirt is from an Etsy seller - Dolly till I Die, cos who doesn't love Dolly haha and the jeans are vintage. I've had them for over 25 years- I love high waisted flares.

@mellowyellowgirl I need a jade quality 101 class lol.

Here's a wonderful thread from @Crimson.
Hello, I am starting this thread to share what I have learnt about evaluating jadeite (feicui).
Thanks, @Autumn in New England for the encouragement!
I know there are many jadeite buyers and owners here! Please feel free to share what you think and know about jadeite so we can make this a one -stop place for anyone interested in learning or evaluating jadeite.
In this thread, I will focus on type A jadeite, There are already many sources on differentiating between Types A,, B and C so I won’t go into that here. What I'd like to do is to share what I have read from Chinese sources and authorities about jadeite evaluation,

@mellowyellowgirl I need a jade quality 101 class lol. I'm very spiritual (ok superstitious) especially for a science person and I collect antiques things associated with luck from all cultures, so I need jade in my life too.
This is an AMAZING thread by @Crimson

I really wish we could have it pinned!

I am a bit notorious for buying jade for colour. I understand the other desired attributes but limited funds mean that I can only pick one or two desired qualities so I tend to make colour my first choice as long as the texture is not hideous!

I went on a jade buying spree a few years ago and pretty much bought up everything I wanted. I find it exhausting to buy jade!

Wow, I think jade is the most difficult stone to describe and rate. Are these good example of great "water"? It makes me think of a pond during spring, when things are starting to grow.

Here's a wonderful thread from @Crimson.

Thank you @Starstruck8 and @mellowyellowgirl for appreciating my jadeite thread.
@RRfromR i agree with @mellowyellowgirl that jadeite is a challenging gem.
It is best to evaluate any pieces you are considering in person, and with a bright focused light. In photos, white and polished parts of jadeite can look watery when they are not. Jadeite can also be treated to remove impurities, giving a more watery appearance, so please beware, and do not buy types treated (B & C) jadeite, especially if you are thinking of using it for protection or spiritual purposes. Best to have a report from a credible lab. A lab report will also tell you whether the piece you are considering is actually jadeite or not, because there are so many simulants. I will add a post to my Evaluating jadeite thread with the name of some credible labs.
Re: your photos , I do like the piece on the left. The one on the right is less saturated, and it does look watery, but I can’t be completely sure. Another problem is that sometimes jadeite is cut very thin to give the impression of being translucent.
So the thickness must be taken into account.
Have fun with your jade hunt!

4.3 carat unenhanced Malaya garnet sugarloaf! A gift for myself, for closing the door on what will hopefully remain some of the worst years of my life.

Sharing my moonstones. Its very hard to photo the big stone because the sheen makes it blurry

I picked these up this weekend. Bought from "Jade Fiend" Andrew Shaw. Throwing this out there, but he has a very interesting book. He was a BBC journalist for years that decided to move to China and cut jade. He has an interesting jade centered channel. https://www.youtube.com/@andrewshaw8306

The earrings are made of fine apple green Siberian nephrite from the number 7 mine. He told me this is the mine that Faberge used for their jade. On 18k wires. I am excited to add these to my "rock collection" :)

Thank you! This is my second pair from him. My first pair is the most delicate of white jades (nephrite). I can’t capture the translucence as well, but here is the best I can do. They are on sterling, but I intend to have them reset. They are white, but I think my skin is showing through the closeup.
