Speaking of testing for Covid 19...Have you been tested?

During this pandemic everytime when I sneeze I ask myself the Q...did I contracted Covid 19?. crazy times.

No one in my immediate nuclear family has been tested. My daughter (15) had an episode in March when she had a low grade fever, lost her appetite (couldn’t taste or smell very well) and muscle cramps. It lasted about 1 week, but with no respiratory symptoms. We now think that those may have been her “Covid-19” symptoms and we have already been exposed.....we should get tested for antibodies.

No, not me. My brother was tested and was negative. He had fatigue, ached very badly all over, and stomach cramps. (not nausea) No fever. He felt really ill for 3 days. Obviously some other kind of virus, thank goodness.

I’m so happy he’s okay @junebug It seems Chris had the same virus that your brother had.

I haven't been tested, but my husband runs restaurants, so he gets tested every 2 weeks to ensure the safety of the customers. I work from home and RARELY see anyone, so I figure if he turns up positive, then I'll assume I am as well. He's had several negative tests so far.

no for me and no for my family

In our state you cannot get tested unless you are showing symptoms (which seems stupid since some study I read says that something like 40% of positive cases are asymptomatic (wondering how they know that - obviously not a study in my state)). Anyway, I am having surgery at the end of September, and before they will let me in the hospital, I have to have a test 7 days before admission. So... i will get a test and find out then.

My husband also hasn’t been tested. Even after he - for no reason whatsoever - except maybe delayed heat exhaustion - went completely unconscious for at least 3-5 minutes. First responders all checked his blood pressure (100/60...omg low), blood sugar 100 (normal), did an ekg and said it was normal, but being unconscious isn’t normal so they told us to go to the ER (we declined transport). At the ER, they would not let me in, even though my husband wasn’t “there” to accurately report what happened... they did another EKG and diagnosed him with vasovagal syncope. So... being that I have had vasovagal syncope ALL of my life and have NEVER gone unconscious (like, i mean he was literally NOT in his body), I was reluctant to believe this diagnosis. Then, reading studies about people experiencing central nervous system symptoms, seeing as they won't do Covid tests, and now a month had gone by, we tried to get his doctor to order an antibody test. I figured at least we’d know if he has had it. Nope, you can’t get an antibody test for a “simple faint” that isn’t a symptom. And, they have false negatives anyway. I’m like, yah, but NOT false positives. So, no we have no idea.

Hopefully he didn’t have it (although it would be nice to have some reason why he “died” that day) and hopefully we don't get it before my surgery.

ETA: We were supposed to go to my brother’s house on Sunday to surprise my nephew on his high school graduation under the ruse that it was my brother’s birthday dinner. Family only. On Monday we got a call that “a person very close to [my nephew] and [his sister]” had tested positive, so they were canceling it pending the results of their test (they had no symptoms either). Turns out, they ARE positive and probably got it from their mom, who was the person “very close to them” who tested positive, and in whose house they live. Luckily(?), I haven’t seen them since lockdown. But my mom has and she is 83... and she sees us...

I just got the good news my son tested negative. He still feels bad like he was beaten up so maybe an early flu...

I'm so sorry that your son is ill - I hope he recovers without any complications. I do want to caution you, and him, that negative results on the PCR tests are not terribly reliable - estimates of the false negative rate range from 30% to as high as 70%. Considering the time of year and extremely low incidence of flu right now, as well as his symptoms, he really needs to quarantine himself from others as if it is COVID. It could also be Lyme or West Nile or something like that, of course. He should be vigilant as to the course of his symptoms and keep in touch with his doctor, as any of those can be become serious or may require a particular treatment regimen. But out of an abundance of caution, he needs to protect others in case it is COVID.

As I just mentioned to @MamaBee, it's important to know that the false negative rate for the test for current infection is high, so anyone who is symptomatic but receives a negative result - unless it's proven to be something else - needs to quarantine themselves and take the same precautions to protect others as they would if they had tested positive. I know, it utterly, utterly stinks, but......here we are.

Hubby and I have been tested for antibodies-both negative. We were able to get tested while donating blood at Lifestream.

So the really sucky news: My sister has an appointment tonight to be tested for Covid because she is symptomatic.
She lives with my mom. My mom was supposed to have additional imaging of her breast because a routine mammogram found an area of concern. Breast cancer runs in her family so this is very alarming. The hospital has cancelled my mom's diagnostic tests for 2 weeks because she has been in contact with my sister who may be positive.
Talk about crappy timing. I'm extremely stressed about this.

Oh, no - I'm so sorry. That's awful.

I tested negative several weeks ago.
But that doesn't mean I'm still negative.

Nobody knows their status.
You could have been exposed to C19 on your way home from getting your negative test result.

Neither of us tested, we havnt been anywhere. My sons MIL had symptoms but tested negative twice. I read the test is as much as 50% wrong for negative but 98% right on positive.

Thank you @OboeGal I just texted him what you wrote. He’s going to continue quarantining..

Yes! We were told this several times as DH tested negative for everything else and had the classic symptoms. The doctors have actually stated presumed COVID despite multiple negative tests.

Yup. I got tested bc in CA you can even w.o symptoms. I was negative

One family member had the test. It was required before a surgery.

I hope your son is feeling better @MamaBee and this turns out to just be a regular flu bug.

Thank you @Calliecake I can’t believe I’m hoping it’s the flu..He still feels rotten.

So yeah I totally forgot. Greg did get tested before his kidney procedure at the hospital. LOL how could I forget that? He was negative.

I can’t believe I’m hoping it’s the flu..He still feels rotten.

Ugh I hope it is just the flu Joanne. Continued well wishes being sent Chris's way. And hugs to you.

Definitely he should isolate himself from others til he is well. Either way (flu, Covid etc) it is probably contagious so staying away from others is wise.

True. All true.

I’m so upset. My son lied to me that he called and he was negative. He didn’t think he had it and was concerned I was worried. He called them for the results..He does have Covid.

Oh no. I’m so sorry sweetheart. I don’t know what to say but to say I am praying he will be ok. He’s gonna make it through this. I am so sorry. Sending you and Chris bucketloads of healing dust.

Thank you @missy. My husband said he could drop off supplies and leave it on the stairs outside his house...He said he’s not hungry.

My "Like" is a show of concern. As a Mom, I know this is very upsetting. I wish him a mild case and a speedy recovery.
