Why do you need to know? This baffles me to no end. It never occurs to me to wonder why you support whomever it is you support. We know your opinion of Trump from all your posts here so are you seeking someone to justify to you why they would support him? Every thread that discusses this devolves into a nasty name calling affair.

Why do you need to know why she is interested? Perhaps she would truly like to understand another's perspective. Frankly, those of us who don't support Trump are completely baffled as to the real reasons why others do and many of us would honestly like to learn from them, rather than pundits' third-person analyses of why. This is @missy asking the question, very politely - about the last person here would turn nasty to anyone, even if they have a different perspective. There's no reason to believe, based on her years here and her respectful demeanor, that she is anything other than genuinely wanting to understand. She's done nothing wrong.

If you bully other posters - especially those who are exceedingly kind and generous in their dealings with others, such as @missy - you're going to get pushback from all of us.

I get what you're saying - however, please be aware that there are several on this forum that bully and ridicule other posters constantly. Downright nasty people. I wish everyone could be civil and at times just agree to disagree. This is why I feel we should do away with political threads. I sometimes picture it as a bunch of people in a parking lot throwing stones and sticks at each other and some of the nasty comments I've heard in the recent past, I image that person with spew coming out of the side of their mouth as they spit out the most ridiculous insults that make no sense. I'm not saying anything about you @OboeGal - just taking the opportunity to say my feelings, that's all.

TBH most of the time it is not worth the effort when one has to wade through the nasty troll posts by those who are not genuinely interested in discussion.

Maybe it's secret to her but for some reason she wants the **edited to remove identifying information** ID to be banished, probably to do with some personal info or somebody found her real name etc.. For me, her name is: She who will not be named

aka she is known as: she amongst other on my ignore!

love you girlie. they don't make them ANY better than Missy the Marvelous.

Sorry I didn’t realize that info was secret. I’ll ask the mods to remove your name @the_mother_thing

@OboeGal remember there's always one amongst us girls and guys who is the mother superior, the one who must police. :)

Peace.

I agree that others can behave this way as well.

I would really hate to see the political threads go away, though. There are things of value that can be gained from them, and certainly those of us who participate know what we're getting into if we choose to read/post.

@Tekate I was wondering about that. Because the previous name didn't look very specific to me and I was curious how it could be viewed as using someone's ID?

MOST DEF.. Couldn't have said it better, thank you Oboe Girl.

I would like you to put the shoe on the other foot for just a minute and reread your post. If you were on a forum that posted all the things said about Trump but used Obama instead, would you feel welcome to discuss your feelings, ideas, reasons? There are some pretty foul things said about Trump supporters on HO.

Please excuse me @Demon for answering for Missy, but I think this poster changed their moniker/name on PS and we were all forever banned from saying the former name, not sure why because people occasionally change their monikers, often when they join over to business and you can refer to their previous name.. Who knows..

BTW I think it IS very interesting to me WHY the right wingers support Trump after this COVI-19 effup.

:)

I think it's this one from another thread.
I appreciate your actually taking the time and trying to help; if only others could be as unassuming and nonjudgmental when asked a simple question. I skimmed through my alerts and her posts earlier trying to find what she was referring to, but that didn't catch my eye because it didn’t appear to be a question she posed to me.

@the_mother_thing I would never deliberately alert you to any question because this is what we get. Deflection, avoidance and defensiveness. It was a general question to anyone who is still a Trump supporter.
Then HOW THE HECK was I supposed to know what you were talking about? Your post made it sound like you posed a specific question to me, and I simply asked you “what post” so I could understand the specific context of what you had asked, and then respond.

NEWSFLASH: Not everyone likes to spout off at the fingertips without knowing what they’re being asked ... especially around these parts. I suppose it would have just been too overwhelming for you to just say (a page or two back) “it was just a general question” instead of going off the reservation and accusing me of being “deflective”, “avoiding” and “defensive“ as well as compromising my privacy ... something you know very well is against forum rules.

Lol, actually I looked back and it was your post. I was responding when another post popped up and so mine didn't follow correctly.

I can understand business, or if someone actually identifies you in real life. I was confused as to why it would be bad to mention the previous name if the change wasn't for those reasons.

This is why I feel we should do away with political threads.

I feel that 1)any sort of wide ranging topic ban can be a very slippery slope, and 2) it would be extremely difficult to enforce since what is considered “political” in current climates is vast. Would they delete any thread that got “political”? I’ve seen many innocuous threads go sideways.. Conversations about preschool selection sometime turn into debates about universal paternity leave. It’s hard to even talk about covid now without risking politics. It would be putting admins in a very difficult role of policing threads. And 3) I think political discourse and quality debate is very important and worthwhile. I wish they did a better job of this in schools honestly. If we all learned collaborative debate in junior high maybe there’d be less name calling these days.

Sure you can argue this is a jewelry forum. But you can also argue that people can choose not to venture into threads that seem likely to be political or incendiary. I do find some of the topic titles a bit provocative and click baity at times. But again, freedom of speech. I don’t click into threads I suspect will just incense me.

Maybe there should be another forum called Politics if people are concerned about accidentally finding themselves in a political thread while perusing Hangout. Then those of us who do find value in discussing politics can talk and debate or vent to whoever is interested.

For me, it would depend on who was doing the asking.

I see your point and can’t disagree. I wish people could be more civil and not resort to name calling and character bashing. That’s all

There are a few other reasons why posters change their user names. In the past when some posters were banned for a long time, they re-registered under new user names to avoid being associated with whatever kerfuffle caused the long-term banning. There have also been posters in the past who were permanently banned and re-registered under new IP address and new user name to sneak back on. Most of those self-exposed due to their continuous kerfuffling. Then there are those who simply wish a change that better suits their personality such as StephanieLynn who recently changed to YadaYadaYada.

And I am asking you why do you need to know?

My short answer is - I want nothing the democrats are selling which does not translate to supporting Trump.

Red, I hope you don't mind me answering this....

@missy - I asked conservatives here the same question after Trump was elected and the condensed version is many of the conservatives here don't actually like Trump that much, they didn't specifically vote for him, they voted for other conservatives that happened to get him elected.

Right wing voters (my mother and husband are right wing voters albeit in a different country) tend to vote along party lines even if the leader of said party is a complete moron. It doesn't mean every single one of those voters is attending Trump is the centre of the Universe rallies or endorsing his psychopathic behaviour.

I guess I'm different when the leader of the left party in Australia has been a complete dickhead, as has been the case a few times in the last few decades, I've voted for someone else ie the environmental party (called the greens) or back in the days when there were democrats in Australia, the democrats instead..... so I've voted for an alternate party similar to but not the same as my belief system, because I'd rather be lead by a person with brains and some integrity than a complete moron....

Imo, this isn't about political discussions getting out of hand. It's about personality clashes, rudeness, and manipulation and those issues are present even in threads that aren't directly related to government or political affairs.

Hi, Queenie60-

I quoted Matata above because earlier in the thread she posted that the problem here was not that we were discussing politics. She has been here for a long time and is pretty savvy about the way things work. I agree with her. Sometimes people fight over things that appear to be the causes.of dispute when in reality the causes run deeper. You noted that you had seen behavior that you felt was uncivil before this thread..I think that incivility causes problems in political threads, not that political threads cause incivility.

Politics does, sometimes, get us emotional. We can often help each other to regain control, however, if we have good will and see ourselves as a community.

Thank you for your thoughtful post.

Just wanting a new name makes sense. If someone is sneaking back in, no. Banned and sort of trying to clean up their past, I wouldn't allow it, but I'm not the admin.

Totally fine no worries.

There have been a few threads where it was discussed and it devolved rapidly. One started by a very nice person who doesn't even post any longer because it turned into a running joke. It isn't worth the effort and when it's asked "how can you still?" I'm not sure what response is to be expected? I am partly to blame for my own irritants because I get defensive, but I would think reasonable people might endeavor to understand a bit of defensiveness given the voluminous Trump hate in HO? I am not a bad person and neither are most people here IMO. I do deserve respect like any other member even if things get heated. If you (collective) can't, then be the troll you are I guess, it's no skin off my nose.

I have never voted for a democrat except in our local elections. And until 2016 I always voted R. I don't know if I will even vote in 2020. I am disgusted by all politicians for various reasons.

Man am I thankful for my liberal (pun intended) use of the Ignore feature..
Nothing new. If you don't bash Trump the liberals will put you on ignore.

At least you get the choice, lots of Americans don't vote at all, we don't have that option here, in Australia you get fined several hundred dollars if you don't vote. So everyone has to vote....

If I had to then I would, though I have never sat out an election in all my years.

Dude, if Obama was currently the POTUS this whole virus would be his fault, you would be blaming the recession on him. Everything would be his fault...... yet your country is in a recession, countless people are dying directly due to Trump's mismanagement and chaotic responses to both the health and the economic crisis, and the dude you didn't vote for, that you keep defending can do no wrong. I seriously just don't get it.

Why didn't someone tell me I could put you on ignore? It's too late now. I've heard everything you have to say now. I should have been warned years ago. Many, many years ago.

Huhh??? Her old NM was **edited to remove identifying information** or something. It's not a secret, and shows up in all previous threads.
I didn't know that.
