Recently, I was lucky enough to buy a pair of ACA jackets made by WhiteFlash. Since it's not possible to buy their melee direct, this was a huge windfall.

I'm thinking about doing a halo on a 10mm stone. Does anyone have a halo on a stone of any size, using 2pt melee?

All help appreciated!

ETA I've gone through the halo thread, but most people don't list the size of their melee, and most that is listed are using 1pt stones or smaller. I just want to be sure this won't end up looking cluster-y. Thanks!

Oh, I am interested in seeing this as well. I love a chunky-ish halo. But I always find it difficult to judge the point of when it becomes clustery. I am thinking of doing a halo in my next reset.

I consider 3pts a cluster, and 1pt a halo. I just don't know about 2 pointers, which is, of course, what I've got!

I'm interested too @mrs-b! Is this for a round stone?

I think DS_2006 used 2.6 mm OECs on her halo for the AVC that CvB made.

I think 2.6 is somewhere between 6 and 7 points. That would be a fair bit larger than I'm considering.

I have a 2 pt eternity band from WF, if you'd like to see that let me know & I can post it. :wavey:

I know it's super hard to judge without knowing anything else, but what size would you say these halo stones are? I would say they are close to 2 pts?

Pardon my ignorance. But what do you mean by 2 pts?

Hi Nala :)

2 points - as in, 100 points in one ct. These would be 2 points.

I have no idea. I probably would have guessed...3 pointers? But maybe 2. I wish I knew!

It’s a good friend of mine and I actually photographed her wedding. I don’t have calipers or I would ask her if I could measure them!

@nala I love the proportions of your halo!

MrsB if you ever decide that the jackets won't suit your project, please keep me in mind to buy them intact from you. Very cheeky of me to ask, I know. Cheers Wombats :D

The halo in my pear pendant has 2-pt ACA melees. My earring jackets are also made of 2-pt ACA melees. I use the jackets for both my 1.44 ctw and 2.43 ctw diamond earrings. I posted pictures of them all on PS before.
Wonder if 3-pt melees be better for 10mm stone?

Hi @FancyDiamond -

I scrolled through all your threads, but can't find your photos. Can you help me out at all?

Hot-damn, Nala - that ring is everything!

I found these photos from my old threads.
Earring jacket photo - diameter of 1.2x Diamond is just under 7mm. You can use its proportion with respect to the 2-pt melees for comparison with your 10mm stone, although the 1.2x center diamond covers a little area of the melees.
Pear halo pendant - you can use the 9mm long axis of the pear diamond to compare the proportion of your own 10mm stone to 2-pt melees.

I love this thread. I prefer the larger size and I think it won’t look like a cluster..I have a similarly proportioned ring and it’s my favorite!

Awesome! Got a photo? Would love to see it! And it's very encouraging that there are people out there who like more substantial halos. I definitely want a halo, not a cluster, but my stone (opal) is large, so I thought perhaps 2 pts might work perfectly.

@FancyDiamond - this was incredibly helpful! Thank you so much! I think your halos look wonderful, and would be perfect around a 10mm stone.

Hi, my sapphire center stone is approximately 11 x 9 mm. The stones in the halo are 2 points each and the stones in the shank are 1.5 pointers. Hope this helps!

I think 2 pointers would be perfect on a 10 mm round for a substantial halo! (I wouldn't go larger, or you get into the "clustery" look, IMO. ;)
