Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling product!

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

missy, you are such a gem and a wealth of information1 I just read the article that you attached; I will try it overnight this weekend. Thank You So Much!

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

after you apply the oil (which living in FL is ALWAYS in a liquid state!)
place a shower cap on your head.

i then plop with DHs shirt, but twirl it forward and tie it in the front so I can keep it on all night :)

this way I don't have to worry about getting oil on my towels :)

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

Thanks Kelinas! What does your DH say when he sees you? I think my husband is going to laugh until his side hurts!

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

He's all       until he realized it's his shirts  then went into the :nono: mode for a few minutes before  again.

i apparently look like a sheep/ram/mushroom :lickout:

hilarity ensues

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

Too funny!     Who needs a bling gtg? I think we could have a blast with some of us curlies, but we would love those with straight hair to join us!

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

Ok curlies, off to bed smelling like a coconut! I feel like we are in summer camp trying out crazy beauty treatments before laying in the bunks gossiping all night... :)

I'll report back on my results tomorrow!

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

You're welcome Classy. It's my pleasure. The one thing I miss about having straight hair (in my 20's it became curly) is the knowledge it will look the same every day. These days I am never sure what I am going to get but truthfully it is more interesting this way.

Good luck Rosebloom. Looking forward to hearing your results and thoughts.

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

Are you sensative to protein?
that's the only reason that I can think of is a protein sensativity.
Sorry it didn't work for you...I'm tryingto think of othsr DT ideas for you

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

Ppl who have issues with coconut oil find better results with jojoba oil.
Also, if you are having protein issues, honey/aloe vera gel/molasses are all great leave ins without protein.
my DH uses pure 100% aloe gel in his hair everyday instead of gel and he loves it. He has the softest thick hair ever.

I hope you can find out what works for you!

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

Don't know if I have issues with protein. I have good results using light sesame oil and ojon, which is a combo of different oils.

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

baby monster, I was at my hairdressers when I saw your post about the coconut oil. I my hairdresser how to tell if a person's hair is protein sensitive. He really did not have an answer. I am so sorry this happened to you. It is discouraging to have soft hair one day, then a flop the next day! I can relate only too well.

My hair felt like straw and was dull after using olive oil. I think olive oil has a lot of protein in it, so I my hair might be protein sensitive :errrr:

I think I am going to stick to the Ojon deep treatments since my hair likes the oil in it.

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

I had great luck again with the EVCO. It does feel pretty odd at night though. It is super humid here today and my hair is behaving far better than it normally does in this weather.

I have the hardest time taking hair shots, but here goes!

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

Also, when I got my hair cut with the Deva trained stylists she told me that the straw feeling is from too much protein. I do get that with some protein treatments but not with the EVCO.

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

Wow, Wow, Wow! Rosebloom, you have gorgeous hair! You should definitely stick to what the EVCO; it makes your hair look healthy and shiny. I love your pictures, and I understand about trying to take pictures of our own hair. I didn't want to ask and get teased by DH, hence the sideways photo! :nono:

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

I'm so jealous of how much hair everyone has!!
I have super fine low density hair so there's really not much of it >•<

Plus I've come to question what my hair type is.

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

Kelinas, do you ever use a diffuser to dry your hair? That will add volume. Also, are you questioning your curl type such as 2A, 3A, etc.?

You made my day!! Too kind.

When I wore my hair straight I was pretty proud of it. Always thick, shiny, bouncy. But pregnancy hormones and an onslaught of wiry kinky gray hairs have me wearing it curly now. Like Missy said, every day is something different - sometimes it works and sometimes it's a disaster. Makes life exciting at least!

Diffusers+Kelinas=disaster. I just can't figure out why.
And yea, I meant curl type. I thought I was a 3b but as time goes by I'm noticing that I don't have the typical spiral curl or ringlet. Its curly, but not curly, if that makes sense. Almost like 2b but more curly and not wavey?

Who knows, my hair has been a pain in the rear my entire life but it has been fun treating it well :appl:

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

Rosebloom-love your hair!!! Gorgeous!!! Thanks for sharing the pics!

Kelinas, It is normal to have different curl patterns on one's head. Here's some info for you.

babymonster, I'm sorry the coconut oil didn't work for you. There's a lot of others to try though as others have posted. Here are 2 of my favorites.

Don't worry- you will find your DT HG!

ETA: Kelinas I just reread your post and not sure that's what you were referring to re curl pattern so sorry if that wasn't what you were talking about.

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

As embarrassing as it is to post this, I'm dying to know my pattern.

Now you can see just how thin and nonexistent my hair is.

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

Hey kelinas, I'm picking up after a long day with the painters in my home. I will research your curl pattern when I get done. I wonder if your hair is a bit stretched out from the evco? Some smoothing products can leave my hair looking wavy instead of curly; I wouldn't mind that except its not uniform. Do you think your hair might be curlier and fuller without the frequent evco DT. I know from personal experience that mine can look limp and scrawny if it is over conditioned. Please know that I am not saying that is your case, but it could be a possibility.

There are enough curly PSers involved in this thread to figure out your situation. Despair not! :wavey:

I apologize for all the typos/grammatical errors in this post! The painter wanted to know what color I wanted on the walls while I was trying to post about hair! I need to get my priorities straight! Plus, it is clear that I cannot do two things well at once! :(sad

btw, priority in spirit is with the hair! :naughty:

Texaskj - yay for a fellow Johnson & Johnson girl! :appl:
I absolutely LOVE it & buy as many as I can to stock up online when I'm running low. It is fabulous on my hair - soft, natural, spiral- shaggy curls. I would NOT give it up for anything  Really glad it's worked for someone else!

Alex, I can't believe how much I like this stuff!
Where has it been all my life?
It got a pretty good test this week with all the rain we've had in Texas, which is really weird for July. Even on day two of rain, my hair wasn't a total frizz bomb. I'm even considering giving most of my hair stash to a friend.

Rosebloom, I was just stating the obvious . . . you have beautiful hair! You should be proud of the way it is now. IMHO, wavy and curly hair is more flattering the older we become! I digress, there is another thread about age in the Hangout:D

I have never had straight hair, but I did have smoother curls that could easily be blown out to a Farrah Fawcett style. I can still get the big bouncy curls, but it is much more humid where I live now. Still, I feel like my hairstyle is more predictable when I blow dry it with a round brush which is what tempts me to revert back to my old ways.

I am not an expert by no means, but I think you have either 2A or 2B hair. I love 2's! Mine is 3A/3B, which I find a bit challenging. My DD has 2B/2C hair, which looks Red Carpet ready! She doesn't even have to work at it!

Will you tell us what happens when you diffuse your hair? What sort of diffuser do you use? Also, I have forgotten what you are using for a styling product. Would a volumizing product interest you? Sorry for all the questions . . .

Re: Please recommend your favorite curly hair styling produc

Kelinas, it looks to me like you're a 2b, just like me. It's tricky, right? Kind of in between curly and wavy.

What's your current routine? I agree that it looks like you might be over moisturizing. I've definitely done that in the past. I have a ton of hair but it's fine and when I over moisturize it gets stringy.

What do your curls do when they're shorter? Mine change a great deal depending on the length. Just wondering if that happens to you too.

Glad to have another wavy haired PSer to commiserate with!!!

Maybe I'm doing it wrong but my hair billows out when I diffuse. mine was nothing special, just something that came with my hair dryer.

product wise, i bioterra curl creme and gel.
i tried "something new" today with soft wax creme, and it literally dried my hair exactly how it was wet.
I'm all for volumizing stuff as long as its cone free.

maybe i am over doing the DTs, ill cut back on how often its done, and see.if there's an improvement.
I've had shorter hair.a few.times, but it was always straightened so I don't know how it would react to it.

as for routine, after i cowash, I wring out excess water, apply a creme and/or gel and plop for about 20 minutes.
it doesn't frizz, I just don't get the typical definition of bring a curly haired person.

So reading all these posts have gotten me to think if my forsaken hair.
I hated the curliness of it, so I always iron it straight. Recently (past few years) my medications have drastically thinned my hair.

I have for a few years now skipped shampooing for conditioning. iShampoo only 1-2 times a week, and condition
wash once a week .

I've started Cowashing...and I LOVE it!! my hair feels soft, and wonderful!

As for product, Iam loving the Bioterra Curl Creme, layered with a gel.
Today was the first time in years that I've worn my hair naturally, without curling or straightening, and it's great.
No crunchiness, no frizz, no billowing triangle; just soft curly hair :)

as for hair type, I thought I was a 3b but my hair today was much more wavey than curly. maybe because I'm just starting to be nice again? who know!

Kelinas, I thought I recalled you saying something about medications. It is so frustrating when a medicine is required for one condition, but then causes some other adverse effect! That being said, I have been thinking about your hair. These are just my thoughts, so please take them for what they are worth . . . free and not scientifically tested!

I wonder if washing with a sulfate free shampoo more frequently would plump the follicle? Also, visit a Sephora or Ulta store if one is near you (you can obtain samples at Sephora plus you can return if it is a flop). Ulta in particular has many hair products, and I recall seeing volumizing styling products for curly hair without silicones. I believe DevaCurl products do not have silicones since the founder is against them. Also, there has to be good drugstore brand volumizers; I haven't had time to research them on the naturally curly forum though. Be sure to scrunch or twirl your hair when applying the product. Lastly, I like using a diffuser because I don't want to leave the house with wet hair. The best results are obtained when using a low setting and not touching with your fingers, although I do use mine to move my hair from side to side. I think you will get more volume with your hair by drying it with a diffuser. Please let us know how things are going.
