Hubs lost his ring a while back. He left it on the back of his truck during a dump run.
I talked him into more bling. :)

Hello everyone! I'm new to this site and I'm enjoying all the threads I have read on the forum and they are so informative! I am a newbie to the gemstone world (been collecting gems for only three years) and love making jewellery designs with them as a hobby. I am a baker by profession :).

I buy my stones from a gem dealer from Sri Lanka. He has been in the business for quite a while and is quite known in the area. He closed shop a year ago, with plans of opening a new shop on a better location. But the pandemic happened. He didn't set up shop yet but I am able to visit his home to look at his stones.

I like to share one of my most
recently made pieces from the stones I got from him. It is a tourmaline, emeralds(3 cut and 1 rough) and a chrysoberyl cat's eye.

The jeweler wasn't able to get my design as I intended it to be, but I'm happy with the results 20210309_152734.jpg The original design was this one 20210309_152908.jpg

Hi, it's me again :) just like to share another ring I have.
20210313_221445.jpg 20210313_221445.jpg
It is my peridot ring. It is one of my first ever purchases of loose stone (second, to be exact.) I bought from my trusted Sri Lankan gemstone dealer friend.

It is 11.94 carats, if I remember correctly. Having an inclusion down in the center of the stone, I was able to get it at a good price.

It stayed for a few weeks in my jewelry box, where I occasionally took it out and look at the stone. It is by no means a top quality gem, but I love how it looks. I enjoy looking at the lilypad inclusions at the center of the stone. I have to view the inclusion at the side of the gem, since whoever cut the gem had it oriented so that it is least visible when viewed from the top.

I at last decided to have it made into a ring in one of the local jewelry shops here. Since I am still timid, and I dont know what I want, I settled for a 4 prong setting with a split shank. Very simple, but very nice 20210313_222528.jpg I have been enjoying it for a few months, when something unfortunate happened. It was a very humid day and my fingers felt clammy. So I took off my ring to wipe the sweat of my hands. Then every gem lover's nightmare happened.

The ring fell.

Everything seemed to slow down as I saw my ring fall, with the gem hitting the rough pavement brick sideways. It did a little bounce and a rollover. I was in shock.

Immediately snatched it from the ground and looked. Sure enough, there was a chip, where the gem first hit the ground. Not to sound melodramatic, but I felt devastated☹.

Around a year after 'the fall', I am more comfortable with selecting gemstones and designing things for myself. Most of my jewelry designs are flamboyant and 'costumey'. I took inspiration mostly from the jewelry worn by the people of South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East. Jewelry from the India fascinated me the most. Men's jewellery worn by royalty can rival those worn by Queens and Princesses of the western world. They are not afraid of color, flamboyance, or floral designs. I was hooked.

Going back, I decided to reset my stone. But since this is the first piece of jewelry i have custom made for myself I do not want the original ring to be remelted. 20210313_221407.jpg I have decided to add two more prongs to the setting. This will cover the chip that happened in the accident. I then decided to put a row of chrysoberyl cat's eye over the split shank and some tiny marquise emeralds. The stone reminded me of spring, so I modified the ring to evoke just that

20210313_221330.jpg

Here is another shot of the ring. You can clearly se the lilypad inclusions on the center of the ring here. I wear this ring regularly as peridot is my birthstone and my favorite color is green.

Beautiful ring and design. Looks so spring like. Sorry you chipped your stone but I couldn’t see it in the new setting at all. We have the same birthstone but I never own a peridot and I’ve not seen something this vibrant. Something to investigate.

Remodelling using the materials is the plan for the emerald something like one of the photos :)

Probably something like the sapphire one but with an emerald
