Lost an ACA from my 5 stone ring...

Ooo, the last diamond looks a bit wonky in its setting too!

I lost the Imperial Jade in my mum's ring during one drunken work related formal event.

It was a small marquise cabochon in a double halo, held in place by 4 prongs.

One of the prongs caught something and bent out of shape, and the stone fell out.

When I woke up at about 02:00 in the morning and discovered what had happened, I went back to the function room to look for the stone without success, even emptied the vacuum cleaner to inspect its content.

After that, I would not have a ring made with claws or prongs for the centre stone, and did not wear any Jade again.

My mum's ring with a sugar loaf Ruby set with claws, the only ring in my collection with the centre stone being set with claws, along with my pearl rings (Tahitian, SSP and SoC), will only be worn for events that are genteel.

DK :))

That breaks my heart! That stone was so much more meaningful than this one. My lesson learned is no stones on my right hand. I'm going to get a bubble band (likely the VCA Pearlee pearls of gold ring) to wear instead on my right.

I also just found the index finger thread with so many 5 stones on it and now I think I may just resize the fixe stone and replace the stone and stick it there on my left hand. Clearly still mulling.

I suspect your setting can be repaired. Maybe. DK could tell you. That would be economical with metal prices sky high

I had asked him about unsetting the stones to repurpose and he said he could also repair it. I guess he could reuse the shank. But I feel like the setting may just be a bad idea in general. Or maybe beefier on the side like the memoire? Still thinking about options. I guess as a temporary measure it’s a good option until I get other bling items higher on my wish list.

I’d probably just repair it and see how it goes rather than spend $$$. And baby it (like don’t wear it doing housework or at the gym or carrying groceries et al). We’ve seen this type of damage a few times in PS but it’s not super common. It happens grasping or carrying heavy things. What are the odds it happens again to you?

Any update @HockeyMama ? Have you made a decision on what to do with your ring/stones?

Nope. It’s sitting in my jewelry box. I have so much ambivalence about it all. I got it around when I turned 50 so I think I need to keep the five. Currently thinking of replacing it and having it sized for left index finger (I’m right dominant). Ideally I would reset it into something more secure but cost of settings are so high and that’s holding me back. Realistically I don’t think a metal credit would get me very far.

All that to say… I’m still overthinking and it’s still sitting.

I'm the same way, in that I drive myself crazy pondering all the possibilities, until I have to put the whole thing aside for a while. Somehow this pause helps me define what the front running idea is: for me what I will wear the most or get the most versatility from. I am a huge fan of five stones (but I wear mine as an alternate e-ring.) I am also a huge fan of index finger rings.

Don't fret - you will eventually settle on what make the most sense for you.

I'm late to the party, but just wanted to say that Victor Canera made me a 5 stone band with the same size stones around 2-3 years ago, and it is similar to yours but has two prongs on the end stones. I just don't do three prongs on diamond earrings, bracelet, or rings since one snag on a prong can result in a lost stone. It sounds like you don't want another 5 stone, but I wear mine almost every day as a wedding band, because my beloved ring in my avatar picture is just too much for my casual lifestyle most of the time.

Most are assuming you do not like the setting/ring anymore. But if you like it why not send it back to WF where you bought the stone and if they made the setting they can put a new stone in and check the prongs on the others or who ever made the setting can place the new stone in and check all the prongs. I personally think it is a beautiful ring.

I’m still considering this. By far the cheapest is getting a new stone from whiteflash and sending it all to the jeweler to get fixed. Likely change the end prong to double or to a bar. I just have to give myself some distance from losing the stone in the first place.

Prices have really come down on natural stones so replacing the missing one is about 40% less than I paid for each originally. Fortuitous in this case.
