Lost an ACA from my 5 stone ring...

I’d send photos of ones online that sit how you want and these ones and say you want a design that allows them to sit upright like the one you like. I suspect it has to do with balance of the design.

Definitely balance. Good idea to send photos. Thank you!

I just noticed that WF has a setting for these. I wonder if they would put my stones in their setting? It might be less expensive than custom. Also faster! I'll have to ask about that as well.

You sound excited about the project - happy for you and can’t wait to see them!

I think it looks great on you! I’m sure WF would set them for you in their own setting - it is their stones to begin with. You could also ask them if they’d scrap your 5 stone setting (I don’t know if American jewellers do this) which would make it even cheaper.

For the tipping forward, either it’s the balance of the design (since the back doesn’t have any stones) or it’s the size of the post and the way it clasps into the back. If the post is too long gravity can make it tip forward like that.

I would ask WF to share a pic of the hoops they make on the ear so you can make sure theirs don’t do that.

There are the Whiteflash ones. I have no idea if they are ergonomically correct but I imagine they have figured that out over the years? Asking about scrap metal is a great idea. My ring was platinum and I prefer gold for the earrings because it will be lighter. The price of gold is, of course, currently not favorable. The WF earrings including the lab diamonds almost my exact size would be $1500. Will report back.

What would the difference between labs and naturals come to? If it’s not a huge difference I personally don’t like to mix lab and natural in a single piece - just bringing it up so it’s definitely a mind clean piece of jewellery for you!

I assume as well that they would’ve figured it out but I’d ask and see if it’s possible to get an on ear pic. I can’t see anything problematic when I look at it - I also prefer a continuous loop and a clasp like the one they have (no idea what it’s called) which is super secure and usually balanced weight wise. Or let them know about your concern and get them to confirm they can make minor adjustments if needed to get the fit right.

I would definitely need all mined diamonds for my brain to be happy. I just meant that the version they sell with lab is $1500 so the setting would come in somewhere less than that because I have my own stones. I was trying to guesstimate the cost. Here is their ear picture. I think it looks quite nice!

I like those WF settings!

I wonder if you would consider buying the lab ones to try and see how they fit in your ears? Then you could return them when you send your diamonds… maybe they won’t have a pair on hand but everyone’s ears are different and I’d hate you to have a dropping issue. Though I think it can be solved by adding a silicon backing to hold the post tighter to the lobe. I feel like @newtojewels did something like that recently…

You may actually live in my brain… my next question to them will be to buy a lab pair to make sure I like the fit if I can return them. If they don’t have any in stock, I have been reading about stickers and backings and such to help.

Good memory, I did this with some VC earrings I bought secondhand because the post was too long for my ears.

Not so good:

Filled in the space with one of those silicone earring backs meant for French hooks:

And then they sit just fine!

I like how it looks! I think this project will be a great use of your stones!

They sit beautifully! What a great solution and I would still be able to enjoy the earrings.

You should try that trick with your cheapies and see how it works. Will be good to know you have a good solution if needed.

Update:
1. They don’t have stones other than what’s listed but I’m happy with the two I can use. Liza said they would set them strategically and size difference wouldn’t be noticeable.
2. Yes! They’ll use my stones in their hoop setting!
3. Yes, I’ll get some kind of a metal credit for my ring setting!

TBD:
1. Pricing. She was going to get me an estimate from the production team.
2. Whether they have any hoops in stock that I can buy/return just to get a feel.

Update:

No, they don’t have any in stock to try out.

To have these made it would be $1250 in 14k WG plus cost for two new stones. Not terrible. I’m mostly shocked that to buy them with lab stones is about $1500 which means six lab ACA quality melee are being valued at only $250. Is that crazy? Out of curiosity I emailed DK for a quote, but will likely just go with WF due to the one stop shopping.

Either way, I will likely be in production be the end of the week with a three week production time! Yay!
