I realized I sounded like I think i should have first dibs on the stone, and I don’t want to assume anything. I guess we’ll have to see what happened on their end, and go from there. Who knew diamond searching could be this stressful?![]()

So...., I have a thread up about that GoG H SI2 that I posted earlier today, and I asked them to put a hold on it for me which they did before I posted. I really don’t want to make any waves, but it seems I technically did it before the OP asked to reserve it, (if you look at the time posted) and as I read this message after it happened and I was keeping close tabs on the message board to see replies to my post. I did send a message to GoG to try to clear it up but it is after hours so will have to wait. I just don’t want it to seem like I snagged it out from under the OP when that is not what happened. I understand misunderstandings can happen and I hope it can be resolved satisfactorily. I want to keep posting about my future ring so didn’t want there to be any confusion, sorry to stir things up a bit!![]()

gm89uk, you are correct. There was a miscommunication. I would never has posted about it if I thought it was not on a hold. Bad luck I guess,
Gadsbout44,
That is very kind of you. I did want to purchase it however I don’t want to rush your decision. My last post was brief as I was in a hurry, so I hope it didn’t sound like sour grapes. You have it on hold so I respect your time to make a decision. If you decide against it they will contact me, but if you decide to keep it I will be glad that someone is enjoying it,
Thanks and best wishes
Sorry I've not been around much in the last day and am just now seeing your post. I just think it's nice to balance quality when you are looking for a well cut diamond. I'd personally rather have a smaller VS2-SI1 diamond than SI2, but if you are 100% certain that size is the primary thing that will make your future fiancee happy, then I can see why you are considering low clarity.
I wouldn't go to I SI2 when that stone is well under your diamond budget.
Here are some more choices.
This is a GIA I VS2 True Hearts with strong fluorescence, and it is likely B2C or ID Jewelry would beat this price. Or you can ask JA what their bottom line price is and see if they will go lower.

This looks like a nice stone even though the depth is a little over my usual limit. It still faces up at 7mm and is H color. Again, see if someone will beat the price.

You’re right. At this point perhaps i won’t find anything I’m satisfied with my budget. I’m willing to go as low as 1.25 carats with fire / shine as the main priority. And color second. My GF is able to notice the warmth especially with an I colored stone. I can also increase my budget to $9,000 but not a dollar more.
OP what kind of setting do you have in mind?
My GF is able to notice the warmth especially with an I colored stone. But that’s because she compared it to a D graded stone. To my knowledge if a diamond is producing exceptional fire / shine then an “ I “ color diamond should appear colorless especially from TJ top view. Is this right?
I hope you read the below with the kindly and old wise gal tone intended. I did not re-read your story from the beginning, so this may be "settled".
You did the wise thing and had your GF go look at diamond colors. She could see a D vs. I. Presumably, she did not like the tint of the I. You can't assume she would not have seen the tint of the I independent of the D as a comparison. I would actually assume she is more color acute and can see the subtle body color in diamonds.
Since this is a gift for her, I'm going to advocate for you to place her preferences first. So, I would NOT buy her an I or low H. If she wanted a colorless stone + 1.25 c in size, then I think you need to have a chat with her about her priorities. Color or size. If you don't want to spoil the surprise, I'd personally stick with G and maybe high H, then adjust clarity and size to fit your budget.
Super-ideal diamonds down into I (and even down to a K) can look white from the top.. There are many fine examples here in PS member's hands. But, that exceptional cut does not mask the side, which is the angle she will see most of the time (technically I think the most color is visible at a 45 degree tilt). Most PS members have made a deliberate and informed personal choice to go lower in color in favor of clarity or size within the super-ideal. None have regretted it (or at least posted about it!). But, here, you are making the choice for another person. Unless you already had the size vs. color "talk", you don't know her preference.
You can use the style of the head to make that view less, but the fundamental body color of the stone will remain.
Just think carefully and, if it was up to me, I'd tell you to talk to your girl.

@Gadabout44 I like the ones suggested by DS, but I also agree that is colorless is what your SO wants, she might not be happy with an H. I also found this one within budget: https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/...1.203-g-si1-round-diamond-ags-bl-104067041006
They are also running a 10% sale now, so the wire price comes down to $8388.55 and the CC price down to $8588.55
Wise words.
If a DEF is what she wants, I'd not get her an I personally, especially as now she's seen warmth when compared to a D, it might never be ' mind clean' for her. I'd have a chat about it and see what her preferences are, you want her to be completely happy with it and if you deviate from what she says she wants, she might say she's happy with it, but not be totally honest with you.

FWIW, I think you're overthinking it. People shop for diamonds all the time, even if it wasn't you, there are plenty of cases of people going to order a diamond or after ordering, discovering that the diamond is no longer available. I think you're being very considerate, but no one will think that you're stealing it from under his nose so to speak.
This is going to disappear if you don't put it on hold. The stone is white from the video. Must be high H. It's 1.38. It looks clean in the video. Great cut. Please reserve it.
