I need help! 4+ round cut please.

Hi! I’m new here so apologies in advance if I’m not on not the correct posting section. My boyfriend and I picked out this 3.5 I VS1 oval but now I think I want a different shape. Eyeing a 4.5 J VS2 round cut diamond. If anyone can share pictures of their 4-4.5 carat rounds that would be greatly appreciated. Also, input welcome on the current diamond I will post below. Excuse the scribble, I had to scratch out my son lol. I am a ring size 4.75 due to my knuckles.

I'd love to see rings(engagement, solitaire, right-hand ring.. any design) that have a center diamond of 3cts. and over. I'm not sure if there's already a thread like this but I haven't found one yet in the search function. I'd also like specs(if known) and a note whether it was a 'starter'...

For future reference, the forum to discuss diamonds and settings is called Rocky Talky. This forum is to show off your new jewelry!

The cut doesn't look great on the oval, to be honest.

If you want to look for a round, here are some numbers to help you find a well cut one.

Start with GIA excellent cut graded stones only. Then:

table: 54-58

depth: 60-62.3 (maybe 62.4 on a stone the size you are looking for. They greater the depth, the less the diameter in most cases, so that's why we don't recommend going too deep)

crown angle: 34.0-35 (sometimes 35.5 if the pavilion angle is 40.6)

pavilion angle: 40.6-40.9

Come back and repost in Rocky Talky if you find some rounds and want an opinion.

Sounds good! Just one note, though, only rounds can be screened by numbers, and then it is good to have a close up photo of the stone, also. With fancy shapes (anything other than a modern round, really, we have to visually look at the facet pattern to determine if it is a nicely cut stone. There are tools that can show light return, Idealscope and ASET scope, but most jewelers won't have those. But I feel confident that we can help you narrow down diamonds to well cut ones that will be beautiful as long as you can provide magnified images of the stones (and the numbers from a GIA report on rounds).

I don't know if you are open to look at other sources, but we can at least help show you price comps before you make an offer to buy a stone if you aren't interested diamonds from another vendor.

Here is the thread that has the larger diamond rings above 3 cts posted. I'd start at the end for the more recent posts since the thread started back in 2005 and the shapes and style rings popular then have changed a little in some cases.
