Your current setting is beautiful... but eventhough i`m not usually into halos, your new potential set just blew me away! It`s gorgeous and looks awesome on you!!! So I say, go for it.

(Disclosure: Potential bias as I`m currently suffering from severe DSS myself.)
Many thanks for your kind words

I think it''s a very special ring with design elements that really appeal to me. DSS is a bear, isn''t it

If he EVER gives you an Alligator head....you should totally get both rings

you''ve had the weekend to think about this, have you come to a decision? The possible change is gorgeous, and is very different - what''s not to like? Though your current setting really changes where my eyes focus. On the halo, I look at all the tiny details of the setting, the current setting, I cannot take my eyes off of your center stone, and all the stones in the shared prong, just seem to reflect off one another.

So I''m afraid I am no help at all, as they are soo lovely in such different ways. Best wishes with your decision, it is such a difficult one!

You are exactly right!! My current setting is as you described. The halo setting focuses on the center stone and the design elements, which are gorgeous. When I look at the haloed diamond, it almost looks like a 3ct stone to me. At least 2.5ct. The wedding band is very delicate and I could add a second one, if I liked. As I said earlier, I've been debating this for about a year now. I'm speaking with my jeweler tomorrow and should have more news then
2.gif

There may be a glitch in the works. My current rings were special ordered in size 4.5. It's not something the jeweler could easily resell. They are in touch with HOF and they may not want to buy them back. My jeweler was very surprised. If HOF won't, then the reset is toast. If I didn't love the new rings, which would also be a special order, the same problem would happen again if I wanted to go back to the original settings. My jeweler is working on how to make this happen. Well, that's the update
8.gif

This is the ONLY time having small fingers is a disadvantage! I guess if it''s meant to be, it will be. If they will take the first set back, I guess you will have to be super sure the halo ring will be your forever ring!

Good luck and keep us posted!

Nothing is ever simple is it? I agree with MGR, if it is meant to be somehow it will all work out. Keep us posted Marian!

That is a beautiful, beautiful ring. I hope you get it!

HI:

Keep us posted!

cheers--Sharon

My current settings are quite a bit more expensive than the possible setting. If I ever wanted to return to my current setting, the price has increased over $2000 since I purchased them
6.gif
I am considering buying the new setting without trading in the current setting. I have a small pair of HOF studs that I don't wear that would fetch about $2000. I also have some rings I never wear that I might want to use in trade. I really need to think this over. If I give up my present settings and someday want them back, the price will only go up. That is based upon the nine 20 pointers in the rings. I'm not one for taking chances. I need to have some control over these transactions. I will speak witih my jeweler again tomorrow. None of us had considered that my rings all had/have to be special ordered. That really makes a difference. It's not like exchanging a diamond. All of us are feeling pretty
14.gif
right about now.

I guess the price difference may also explain why so many still love your existing set - it is rich in diamonds and bling!

Would it be possible to use the studs and other jewelry to upgrade your center stone a bit - enough to get past the DSS? Maybe not, but just a thought! I get the sense that if you could increase the size on the center stone that you would be perfectly happy with your current set. I know upgrades in that size are astronomical but you never know. Sounds like your jeweler really works with you for you to get the best deal and in the current economic market, maybe he would work a bit harder!

Just random thoughts - I hate to see you disappointed. Keeping fingers and toes crossed that it all works out the way you want it to!

The next step up would cost a little over 10k. I don''t know if I could bring it down enough to be doable

I was hoping not to have spend much, if anything to change the setting. DH offered to pay for the new set, but I have refused. I don''t need two wedding sets. If I can''t make this happen on my own, I think I''ll pull the plug on the project

Well chit.

*crossing fingies and toes it works out* !!

I am sorry you feel soooo sad! I remember when I went to the jewelers and told them my ring size was a 4.75 they said that anything under a size 5 or 6? (I can't remember which) would have to be custom ordered.

I also know the approx current price of your gorgeous HOF settings, because I tried them on prior to ordering my James Allen a couple of months ago. I also love the look of the halo as that is what I first started to look at when I began my ring search. But somehow over time I wasn't in awe of that look. And thenl I spied your rings here on PS (but I already told you that before!) and couldn't get over how beautiful your set is! Now I have my own little beauty (though it is not the HOF), but I am quite happy with it.

I hope you figure things out and who knows maybe there is a PS fairy who may sprinkle some dust your way to a solution!

HI:

Sorry you are upset--but your reasons for caution are sound. Hope it turns out in your favor!

cheers--Sharon

Update: I'm going to take the halo ring out on memo for a few days next week. It already has a HOF diamond set in it. I will leave some of my older pieces with my jeweler to see what they would bring in trade. If we get close enough to do the deal, I will go forward. That means I can keep my current set and buy the halo and curved band. I would have a colored gemstone put into the current setting and wear it on the middle finger, right hand and the w-band on ring finger right hand. I'll post a photo that shows a similar set up with some of my rings from my ex-husband. If I grow tired of the halo, it will become my RHR, set with a gemstone. My jeweler did find a way for me to return my current settings, but I already decided against that. If I wanted to replace them in the future, the cost would just be too

This is an example of how I would wear my current set. It''s on my left hand for photo taking purposes...

This is a great option - wearing it around for a few days will surely let you know if it''s the way you want to go or not. I wouldn''t really want two wedding sets either - as much as other looks and options are great, I only want one wedding set.

Sounds like a great plan!

Just curious - what size stone would that get you?

I think a "test drive" will be a great way to let you see how you really like the new setting. Also this experience should give you a renewed appreciation for your old setting now that you know what its current value has become! You are a woman after my own heart the way you are working all of your jewelry around to get something new that you want. This is where a good relationship with a local jeweler really comes in handy!!!

It would get me a 1.82ct. The problem is they can't seem to locate another GSI1 for me. So I would be going up in clarity and/or color and paying dearly for it! I still don't regret going into the brand. With all my futzing around, I really need to work with a local jeweler with the patience of a saint

If it meets my expectations, than we'll see what arrangements we can make. At least I'm getting more clarity on my options. I do work my jewelry around, don't I. If I don't wear it, it should get out there and do me some good

Wow - that is quite a jump in price! You hate to have to pay for color and/or clarity upgrades that aren''t really necessary. Maybe their inventories are low now too due to the economy. If the halo doesn''t work out for you for some reason, maybe they could find you a G SI1 somewhere down the road!

Well I, like everyone else, think your rings are lovely as is! And I certainly wouldn''t wanna pay 10K to get the 1.8
23.gif
Yikes!

A test run sounds like a fab idea. Glad you have that option. The way I wear my rings I don''t think that much pave would be practical for me but I adore the look & ooomph of a halo. Have fun w/the trial! With that gorgeous stone its hard to go too wrong, yanno?
