so then i guess you wouldn''t be interested in this 1.78 F VS2, or this 1.61 F SI1 Vg/Vg (

after reading SEVEN pages of this discussion i just wanted to insert my opinion on the other gifts. i think these other diamond gifts maybe be overkill. i know that they day my boyfriend asks me to marry him and gives me a ring, it''s going to be very hard to pay attention to and appreciate anything else, especially another piece of jewelry with diamonds that pale in comparision to the bauble on my finger. i would stick to simple, the tiffany sterling silver pieces were lovely.

i believe you stated that she was a simple girl....i think going from owning just cosmetic jewelry one day to wearing diamonds on every available body part the next may be too much.

Ok -- I confess to not having read it all, but I've breezed through most, like the eye candy, but agree with Jennyann2. I would find a none jewelry gift for the other two events so that the ring is the big event by itself. Assuming she says yes, you'll have LOTS of time to buy her jewelery, and spacing it out would make it more memoriable and meaningful to me. Maybe buy her clothes, or something for a sport of hobby, or a spa certificate (pampering, yes!), or something else completely different.

Reena,

WHY DO YOU MAKE ME THANK SO HARD!!

I may should only vote once but I''m voting twice. Keep it simple CEP. You are so excited about the whole thing that you are getting blinded by the bling. If you do decide to go with additional jewelry for the other gifts, go with the simple Tiffany silver. It''s simple, classic, and timeless. It will never go out of style and she will love it. Put most ALL of your money in the stone. If you want to up the budget, up the budget for the stone. That''s what''s going to matter most. Then like the rest said, suggest that if she''d rather have a different setting, you want to take her shopping for the setting of her dreams. You''re happy, she''s happy, we''re happy. Whew! (And yes, I have read the whole thing - even sit up late a night following this one.)

Well, CEP I have been following this whole journey, and I have finally got to the point where I feel like chiming in! You are getting great advice hear and agree with everyone. I personally think it would be overload to get alot of jewelery on top of an Ering. When a girl is proposed to it is such a rush and a blurr that you don''t want to overwhelm her more by giving her more jewels. I understand that you want this night to be the best b/c she deserves it and I have to say you are such a sweet guy. I wish my husband would have gone to these lenght when he was ring hunting ( I am currently looking for a new setting!!!) However you could do something more subtle like a gift cert. for a manicure since evryone is going to be looking at her ring!!! Or a bouqet of flowers, I don''t know. You seem set on what you are going to do but I don''t think you realize how much just an engement ring gets a girl going!!! Good luck with everything it sounds like you are on the right track and I can''t wait to see what you decide on. I check this thread like 3 times a day!!!!

Oh...By the way...

Yeah...I''ll back it down a bit. Different hour, different idea...Now I''m back to the inexpesive Tiffany stuff. :)

And thanks SO much to you and everyone else...Being so patient and all...It''s a HUGE help!! (I''m not even telling my best friend, or even any family members about this...So as to MAKE SURE the suprise isn''t spoiled...You guys, my new friends are IT!!)

And just so you know...

I''m going to get her a manicure AND I''m going to wrap 4 boxes (Differing sizes) of 3 roses each, all with love letters. Kind of a way of making her think she''s getting clothes or something when I put them under the tree on Christmas Eve.

Thank you! She''s a doll baby!!

I just taught myself how to resize a picture (That thing is only at 25%...The orgiginal is HUGE) and then loaded it to my free homepage, otherwise I would have had it up earlier.

So...How about her skin tone? Does it pretty much say "White Gold or Platinum" like I assume? (And note the sun I''ve got...I''m a fare guy!! That picture is from this summer. She doesn''t have a lot of sun, but some).

Awww, you two are so cute!!! And if she''s half as pretty in person as she is in the picture you''re one lucky guy!!!

You are something CEP.... How did you get a good part of this forum looking on, following and writing on this thread !!???

Congratulations for the taugh diamond shopping. It seems to be worth every dot

Thank you for the advice.

I''m SO set against any kind of temp setting. But I''ll consider it.

not sure about the skin tone thing . . . but based on the picture she just LOOKS like a platinum kind of girl to me.

Yes it is so nice to put faces to screen names!! You guys are adorable! She is beautiful and I think i am going to cry!!!! I''m a sucker for romance! My personal oppinion is white metal. Not that I don''t like yellow gold, I did where it when I was young but it seems like there are more options with white metal. I have white gold rings and am happy with the way they look. I would like platinum, but I don''t think I like the way it looks after it is scratched, I think it it called patina?? (correct me if I am wrong) Not saying that white gold doesn''t scratch, but it looks diff some how. I also think that white metals really compliment diamonds.

I''m the luckiest guy I know. You have no idea. I just turn 40, never married, and found her!! (And to make a long story short, I live on a lake, and LOVE it...Only a "Laker" would understand why I love it so...And she''s a "Laker" too!!)

And she''s the nicest person I know. She makes me a better person.

While we're getting all mushy, and I've just posted my picture on the internet for the first time, so I obviously trust this place, I might as well do this too...

FarmInnovators.com

That's my company's website. I'm the sales manager (For kicks, hit the "Contact us" link and it will take you to our forum where I interact with our customers...But be warned...It's REALLY boring stuff!!)

VERY few of you will recognize what we make, and even less will have a use, but just say the word and I'll ship you anything you want (Don't worry...I ship returns and freebies out to people all the time, so don't be afraid to ask)...Or, I'll ship it to anyone you know.

I can't thank you guys enough. And I also want you all to get together and come-up with a charity...I'll make a donation in your name. It's all the least I can do!!

CEP, I''d hate to say this, but it''s probably not a good idea to post your company. You all sort of know us, but who knows who might be reading this thread!!!

I know Hest. But really, we''re a small company...I can''t fire myself for doing it!! I might just leave it up long enough for everyone here to see it.

Believe me...Posting my picture is WAAAAAAAAAAAY more scary!!

CEP, it does sound like you''re a lucky guy, but it also sounds like she is a very lucky girl. you are such a FRICKIN'' SQUISHBALL! (that''s a good thing.)

i absolutely cannot wait to see the final resolution of this (loooooong) process! it''s going to be SO ROMANTIC! i might cry too!

Heh, heh, okay CEP!!! I''ve seen some of the stuff you sell in catalogues, but since I live in a temperate climate I don''t think I''ll ever need any of it!!!!

Yeah, I understand....But just in case...

If you''re interested in birds, you can get one of our heated birdbaths, and just not plug it in. The clamp-on is cool...Clamps right to your deck. Or heck, just a heated bucket or bowl and use it like a normal one. The other stuff is absolutely worthless.

Just wanted to bump Reena''s GREAT stones down here again...

Reena...I''ve said this before, but you''ve REALLY got me thinking here. I might go a little over budget, but I can''t express enough how when I looked at an F versus I, how, somehow, I was able to see SUCH a huge difference. I can''t put into words how much better the F looked to me!!

I''ll ask another question here...

Anyone think any given stone size (Say a 1.8) is too big for her? She''s a size 2-4, she''s 5-4 and 105. But, her hands aren''t "Tiny"...Small, just not "Tiny".

I am jumping into this kind of late, but I promise, I read the ENTIRE THING
emdgust.gif

1) Stop and breathe. Relax. Slow down.

2) In my opinion (and I stress that it is only my opinion): I think you ought to get the diamond set in a very basic Tiffany-style setting in white gold. Unless she only ever wears yellow gold (which does not seem to be the case) or unless she grabbed you and said ''BUY ME A YELLOW GOLD ENGAGEMENT RING'', you ought to err on the side of caution. Also, a simple, bare-bones setting in white gold won''t cost you more than $100-150. Save the rest of the money budgeted for the ring, you''ll need it in step 2.

2) After you propose, tell her that you just couldn''t wait to put a ring on her finger, and that now you want to go shopping with her so that she can choose the setting of her dreams. You say she will be happy with whatever, but what girl wouldn''t like to hear that?! Then if she wants yellow gold, diamond-encrusted, or something with colored stones, SHE will be able to choose it. Then you''re sure she likes it!

3) I think that if you insist on getting the necklace and earrings/bracelet gifts also, you really should keep it simple and not go over your budget. It''s very true that you will have all the time in the world to buy gifts for her. I think the Tiffany silver items are gorgeous, quality, and very classy.

Hope this helps...

Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

I just want to say two things...

It will most certainly help! And I really can''t believe you read the whole thing!! That''s too much to ask of anyone. You must be a very nice person!!

Reena,

WHY DO YOU MAKE ME THANK SO HARD!!
Hm.... that F/SI1 sounds pretty by the numbers (did the same AGA reality check as before). The other two sound ok, but the rather thick girdles make them look relatively smaller. There is allot going on the GIA cert of the SI though and no way to see detail on that cert (darn!).
Any news about the EGL pear ?

Great looking couple!

I think that''s the one from the company that start with the "A"? The one of the two we liked best?

If so...

I called them today and asked for the Sarin report. They said they would get it to me via email today. I haven''t gotten it yet. They said once they get that, and since the stone is on the west coast, they would then get the other two reports processing. (If any of that makes sense).

Also...The lady said the PriceScope speical price was "Cash Wire" only. Which I thought was weird, because that price was $7604.00 and the "Cash Wire" price on their site was only $7606.00. I can''t imagine they''re only giving a two dollar deal for this place...I assume she was mistaken since she didn''t really know what PriceScope was.
