Help sourcing an Emerald Cut

Hi all!

My husband and I are looking to upgrade my current engagement ring and I’ve fallen absolutely in love with emerald cuts! I’ve been lurking on here for a few months now trying to educate myself on diamonds & settings and this site has been so incredibly helpful! Now that we are ready to buy, I figured I’d ask for your suggestions. The diamond will be set in a slightly modified Emilya halo by Victor Canera. While his team has been absolutely wonderful to work with and very responsive, it seems that my EC parameters are hard to come by through them. So, I figured we should attempt to source a stone ourselves in hopes to speed things up a bit. I should also add that my husband reached out to GOG via email several weeks ago, but they haven’t been responsive after his initial contact.

I’d ideally like a 2 carat (or just under/over) with a 1.2 - 1.4 ratio (1.3 would be the sweet spot), obviously well cut, completely eye clean, and hopefully a color grade of G or better (I’m VERY color sensitive). Our budget is $18,000 (not including the setting).

Can you guys suggest any stones? I know there are lots of emerald cut experts on here. I’m absolutely willing to wait for the right one, should there not currently be anything sufficient out there.

I came across these stones from James Allen & was able to obtain ASETs for them.

I also found another one on James Allen & one on Blue Nile that look promising, but these don’t have ASETs, is that a deal breaker? Or can anyone tell me if these are good stones?

Thank you in advance everyone!!

Congrats!! Welcome to the Step Cut Club!!

Are you at all interested in antique cut stones? Jewels by Grace has so many gorgeous inventory in stock of EC’s around the l x w ratio you’re looking for.
Well cut, but not precision cut, and some in higher color range.
Just throwing this out there for you, as another option!!

Pertaining to ASET not being available, it’s not necessarily a deal breaker, as long as enough video is available for you to purchase comfortably, with a nice return window/policy.
This way, if, after you receive the stone, and you find it’s not what you’re looking for, you can still return it.
I urge all online purchases to be examined by naked eye before 100% commitment, even if that occurs AFTER purchase. Just make sure you have time to return it.
In the meantime, I, personally, do not care for the cut of #1.
#2 & #3 seem like decent options.
However, I think you can do a bit better, just by looking at the ASET images.
I will search, and see if I can find anything to add to the list of potential contenders!
How exciting!!! :appl:

Fingers crossed you can get ASETs & more videos of these two!
Viewing these stones positioned on P3 facet is very difficult! It would be easier to view them positioned N-S with no tilt!!

Thank you so much for your help!

I checked out Jewels by Grace and holy moly every one of those gorgeous stones almost have me rethinking my EC choice  but for me a classic cut EC wins out in the end! Perhaps for a RHR someday

I thought the same about the ASETs of my choices. I clearly don’t have a trained eye, but based off of ones I’ve seen online, my choices seem lacking.

Thank you so much for those JA suggestions! I missed out on them when I was initially searching because I’m so afraid of flaws that I kept my search at VVS2 or better, but I think I need to not be so picky at the risk of missing out on a beautiful stone! I can’t see a single flaw in those 2. I requested their ASETs and I’ll report back when I get them!

(Hopefully I replied the right way )

Happy to help!!
They seem eye clean to my eyes, as well. They should appear eye clean from at least 6” away, IRL. Those images are magnified, so I imagine they will look even more crisp up close & personal.
I just hope they perform as well, IRL, as they SEEM to, in video.
Please share what you learn about them!! I’m anxious to know if either of them make the “cut”. ;)2
Believe it or not, my EC is SI2. :eek2:
She’s perfectly eye clean, and her inclusions do not detract from her beauty!
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/meet-uisce.231677/

In a larger stone, such as the one you’re seeking, I’d start at VS2 and move up, only because inclusions tend to be more visible in larger diamonds.
My EC isn’t “small”, but it’s not 2ct. The inclusions are hidden well, in my EC, which helps to mask her perfect imperfections...KWIM? :lol-2:
In any case, I’d say you’re safe with a VS+ clarity grade. :mrgreen2:

This one is interesting...
L x W ratio: 1.315:1

Note: I dropped color to H and this was what my search presented.
These were the best out of 70, not including what I already posted.
This helps you decide if you’re color sensitive enough, comparing G to H. CUT will help a lot with that determination, as well.
Some of these options present with a variety of facet size, and others have more broad facets, where others have thinner facets. Step cuts tend to show more body color, but I doubt there’s much noticeable difference between G & H...esp when set.
That is subjective, and you will have to decide that for yourself.

My Search Parameters:
Carat: 1.97-2.50
Color: H-D
Clarity: VS2-FL
Polish/Symm: VG-EX/VG-EX
Lab: AGS/GIA
Depth%: Max: 70%
Table%: Max: 68%
Budget: Max: $18,000
Fluorescence: Faint-None

Following up!
JA 2.08HVS2 is “sold”. Did you place this on hold, or purchase?
