Well, after staring at these a bit, I''m thinking I want around .55ish. which is about 5.3 diameter.

Can you enlarge that a little, Ellen?

Seriously, Ellen, I don''t think that''s enough difference from what you have now. I''d really, really do .60 each. That''s not that much more than .55!

Thanks, that''s better. I wish she had added a .75 on there and then we''d really have the whole spectrum!

ds, I basically have the one far left. That would mean going from 5.0 to 5.3. Personally, I think that''s a big enough jump. Remember, I really didn''t want a whole lot bigger. Better to error on the small side. But I really think these will be perfect.

Yeah, I relly don''t think you''ll notice a difference unless you go to .60, and that is a nice size and not too big at all.

Are you doing G VS2?
No, not necessarily. She picked those, not me. And it looks like I won''t be getting these for a bit. I''m being super picky on this pair, and they just don''t have what I want.

Well, if you can consider H VS2, I took that perfect .61 pair off hold.

Thanks, but I think that''s just bigger than I want to go.

Oh, I just wanted somebody to get them! I wish I could see how big they are in person.

Okay, it''s been a week and I still haven''t decided what to do about earring size. My mother bought my old earrings, so I am really happy to not have an old pair sitting in a drawer somewhere. So now I can get some good ones!

The .61''s are still there. They are a perfect match. The other pair matches up a .718 and a .74 which are very close to the same diameter, but the .74 is slightly deeper and has a thin to med. girdle as opposed to the other having thin.

It is still really hard for me to know if I''d be satisfied with the size of the .61''s, but there is a big price jump once you get over .70. Not sure if it is worth it. I''m almost thinking of risking getting the .61''s and if I think they are too small, I can return them for the others. That will cost me some extra money to do that. But if I keep the .61''s, it will save about $2400 over the .7x pair. That is really a lot of money!

Here is a very cool link that shows earring sizes (not recommending the site for buying, though). Click on "Stud Size Guide" and you can see various sizes of diamonds on an ear:

Ellen, have you had any new thoughts on this since last week?

Oh DS I see that I missed another one of your threads. How big are your earlobes? Personally I think you need to go bigger unless you have very small lobes. I know there is a big price increase, but to me one carat each is the perfect size for studs (except for younger women where they might seem fake). Mine are 1.25 carats each and I wear them all the time with everything from jeans to evening wear. If you get ones that are too small you will just regret it later and have to upgrade again. At least go .75 carats each!

Her''s are small. .5 ct each looked great so I think .61s would be perfect.

Sundial, my other pair was .75 each. My earlobes I guess are on the small side, so they looked plenty big. I guess that''s the other side to this...I have already had 1.5 ctw earrings but they were less than the .61 ideal cut pair I am looking at! Lol! I''m just having to adjust to the price increase to get really good diamonds!

I''d get the .7x pair if I was SURE they''d look identical. I am just not sure if the difference in depth and girdle would be apparent to the naked eye in a setting. I know it is mostly mental.

Here are the measurements on the larger pair ($5900+):

.718 H VS2, 55.8 60.5 34.8 40.6, 5.82 x 5.83 x 3.52 (girdle thin)

.74 H VS1,55.5 61.6 34.8 40.8, 5.83 x 5.85 x 3.60 (girdle thin to med)

Well, I have a dreadful thought you might want to consider....I know I heard or read somewhere that ears get bigger as you age!
32.gif

LOL, I just went to the mirror and studied my ears, and checked out my "earshot pic", and I really think my 60-year-old lobes are bigger than they were when I was thirty. Yuk
20.gif

If these new studs are going to be lifers, I'd go for a bigger size. Even if you lobes don't grow, your comfort level for bigger rocks might!

I agree with Widget and I still say go bigger! You have had .75 carat each studs already. Isn''t there a rule that you have to at least get the same size if you are going to upgrade???

Lol! This place can be very dangerous!

Widget, I''m not too many years younger than you, so yes, I''d say I have earned the right to wear whatever I want! Of course, my 21 year old daughter thinks she''d never wear .75 earrings before age 40, but I certainly hope she is older than that before she''d inherit them! Lol!

But yes, I am going for what I really want at this point...whatever that may be!!! (I want a copy of your new Leon, actually

)

Sundial..I wouldn''t want to break a PS rule for sure. So I''ll rethink this

ds, funny you asked. I emailed Lesley a pair and she put them on reserve yesterday. I am mulling it over and will call her today when they open. If I hear good things to my couple questions, I''ll get them. They''re .58''s. Diameter is 5.37. I went slightly bigger than I planned, but not huge.

I have looked at my lobes quite a bit, I honestly don''t have a huge area below where the studs fall now to fill in, so I''m not gonna go any bigger. I don''t want it hanging off/below my lobe, and I''d like a bit of lobe showing.

Cool link you found!

Oh, that''s great news! I think you''ll be very happy with that size. Smaller than that would not have been much different from the ones you have now. I hope it works out!

I feel at a total standstill. The .61 pair is more perfectly matched number-wise and both are the exact color/clarity I want. With the other pair, the measurements are not as precise (but I have no idea if I could even tell them apart or not) and one stone happens to be a VS1 which causes me to have to pay a premium for it over my preferred VS2. Yet I am hearing, why would I go down in size when I was already happy with my old set of .75 each? That is true, too.

So, what to do????

I think DS what I would do is take my current set in and find the exact diameter in mm and just get a pair that match it exactly that are ideal and not focus on whether it is .70 or .76 or .66 in carat weight - forget carat weight... match the diameter, stick to that and just RUN!!!

Hey Cehra! The larger pair is almost exactly the same as my old pair. I guess I just need someone to confirm to me that the difference in the specs would be impossible for me to see:

.718 H VS2, 55.8 60.5 34.8 40.6, 5.82 x 5.83 x 3.52 (girdle thin)
.74 H VS1, 55.5 61.6 34.8 40.8, 5.83 x 5.85 x 3.60 (girdle thin to med)

Would I be able to see the difference in depth and in the girdles?

ds, just tell Brian your concerns, tell him how picky you are (I did the same thing) and have him look at them. Tell him you need a perfect match or they''ll be coming back. I''m sure he''ll tell you the truth.
