I am so in love with my brand new custom ring created by Maytal Hannah! The ring is a 10 year anniversary gift from my sweet husband, but other than the budget, I planned everything. I'm not a big jewelry person (at least, I wasn't) and discovering PS opened up a whole new world for me. I soon discovered warm August Vintage diamonds and decided that's what I needed in my life! David at Good Old Gold was fabulous to work with - incredibly helpful and friendly. Buying a diamond online seemed like a scary proposition, but he made the process fun and easy.
I picked out a 1.4 ct AVC, O color, VS1, ideal cut/light performance/symmetry, excellent polish, no flourescense. 6.64 x 6.85. After reading a lot about custom jewelers here, I contacted several about designing my ring and decided on Maytal Hannah based on a combination of her beautiful work, price (surprisingly the least expensive), and communication. Since this is a right hand ring, I did not want a solitaire and, although I love all the halos here, did not want sparkly white melee competing with my warm, chunky cushion. Thus, I decided on a rose gold bezel with a petal basket. I was inspired by meg_'s lovely rose gold ring with petal basket design, Ganesha's warm OEC and rose gold combo, and dc87's rose gold bezel.
I emphasized to Maytal that I wanted my design very soft and flowing, and she certainly delivered. The photos below do not convey how truly delicate and tiny this ring is. The milgrain around the stone, the swooping and tapered shanks, the soft curving petals, and the itsy bitsy melee on the donut are all extraordinary. It is amazing that the setting is handmade. I wanted a rosy pink, so she used 14 kt rose gold. Unfortunately, I could not capture the subtle color in these photos - imagine the metal a bit pinker. The ring size is 6.25, but for the photos I'm wearing it on my left hand, which is a size 5.75.
As you can see, I've viewed enough SMTB threads, I knew to have my flowers and manicure ready.
If it's not already apparent, I recommend GOG and MH highly. Many thanks to the PS community! Since all of your posts were so helpful for me, I'm putting this out there for others.
