This is a super hard decision! Please share pictures of your 2ct oval or 2ct pear. I wear a size 7 for reference.

Thank you!

I bought a beautiful pear (1.6ct) in December as a wedding set upgrade. By May, it was in my jewelry box. It snagged on everything. Of course this is just my experience. I now am looking to sell it (eventually) and it’s sitting loose at a jewelers as I was going to trade it in on a round or oval.

Here’s a picture. It’s smaller than you asked for but I wear a 5.25, so it might be a similar proportion.

I have a 1 ct pear that I want to reset. Who made your setting? It's very pretty!

I bought it at Helzberg. It’s even prettier in person, IMO.

Not sure how much this will help. This is a picture of a 2 carat oval and 2 carat pear (using the default sizes) on a size 6 finger.
IMO the default sizes always run a little bigger than real life stones (for fancy cut stones). BTW, fancy cut stone dimensions can
vary widely due to depth/girdles. When you are comparing stones be sure to look at the LxW and not just carat size.

What a beautiful ring. Thank you so much for giving me your experience. I never thought about it snagging on things! Oval may be the winner just because of that!

You’re welcome. I hesitated to say something, but I wish I had thought about it/knew about it before I spent what I spent on my pear. I would have made a different choice in stone cut (or at least on the setting style). I wish you all the best on your decision.

I never catch my pear on anyrhing...but I don’t have is set with the cluster of diamonds on the band. Could that be the issue?

I assume that mine was set in a standard way. So I think it’s just because of the point on it that it would snag on things and I would scratch myself and others with it.

It may be set too high? Mine is set in a halo, very low and I haven't had any problems with it.

I think you’re right that the setting could have contributed the majority of the issue I had. I’m sure the fact that it didn’t have a halo to add bulk to the point also contributed. At the end of the day, it was a perfect storm of things that led me to realize that it wasn’t the one for me. But I certainly adore pears for others!

OP: I wouldn’t steer you away from a pear. They can be stunning and very flattering! Maybe just pay attention to the setting and how it might impact things with a pear?

Where do you get that measuring tool, its just what I've been looking for, cant find it no matter what search terms I use :wall:

I never have any problems with my prongs...no scratching, no nothing. @ohsomethingshiny maybe you needed to have your prongs looked at/worked
on. Mine is only a 1.08 (on size 6 3/4 finger) so not the size you are looking for @Nsamp14 but thought I would comment on prongs. I think prongs on any shape stone can
scratch and catch if not done well.

As @tyty333 said, I also have no prong issues. They are smooth & well executed, despite the height of the setting. Again, mine is far smaller than you are looking for (1.02 on a size 5.25) but I wouldn't ever want to get rid of it. Adding to my choice, however, is never off limits!

My pear is in a halo with claw prongs holding the stone in place now and I've had no issues with snagging, scratching or pulling. Before setting it in a halo, I had it in a 5-prong Tiffany style setting and I didn't have any issues then, either. I think it may be the setting it's in that's causing problems for you. From your side view photo, it looks like the prong at the tip is raised above the stone quite a bit. Maybe that's been the culprit. Very pretty pear, though, and lovely setting!

This corner end prong is far to high off the stone (likely for protection purposes), and is the cause for scratching, snagging & grabbing.
I believe if you ask the jeweler to shorten it, or change that prong to a v-prong, or reverse v-prong, that solves your problem.
It’s very beautiful; the pear, and the setting. That one prong throws the whole thing off, and is creating havoc!
I’d hate to see you replace it with an oval, if it only requires a simple fix!
Thank you for sharing your lovely pear!!! :mrgreen2:

It’s been dismantled and I’m going to find a new home for the pear and the setting. I can’t justify keeping it now that I have Lucy and an ACA due in by 3pm. *gulp*
