Well, I can't keep the MRB if I go with a 2+ ct stone. Had I gone with an AVR under 2 cts, I condsidered the idea of keeping the 1.58 MRB to make into a 3 stone ring. But I already have some right hand rings and I am afraid it would be a waste anyway. Before seeing this stone in person, I was struggling with going with a larger MRB versus an AVR since there is a price premium for the specialty cut over a H&A stone. After seeing this stone, I am going to have to say that all things considered, I do love the AVR more. I still struggle a little about the price being higher than H&A stones, but I understand the reason as he has to start out with larger rough to cut these. He had to buy a 1.9 ct stone to recut to the 1.7, so it just costs more at the outset. And of course, it is a more rare diamond as well.

Thanks so much for the rely! I recently upgraded my e-ring to an AVR but I'm already wanting bigger as I think AVR's/OEC's need to be a little larger in order to fully appreciate the beauty of the cut! Whilst I love my AVR, I'm beginning to think I may have a little itch for a MRB (having never had one before!) and hence the interest in those going from MRB to OEC/AVR or OEC/AVR to MRB.

I guess I take comfort in knowing I have a great trade in policy with GOG because even if I now think this is my forever stone, I do not ever know what might come along to entice me! But the only temptation towards a mrb is the slightly lower price per carat. But I believe the AV/OEC is going to be my first love for my e-ring stone!!!

caratlover, I just wanted to say that I looked back at your gorgeous rings, and I think that an AVR is the best possible choice when you have an AVC for a right hand ring. My goal, in your situation, would be to eventually upgrade to a larger AVR, if anything, because you have that amazing 2.5 ct. AVC! But your current AVR is just beautiful in the Tacori setting!

It is an absolutely beautiful stone, DS. Congratulations! We only live once and we should have stones that make our hearts sing while we're doing it!

My engagement ring is a very white I colour, well-cut HoF, and it shoots lovely warm fire and a rainbow of colours. I agree that you can see the facets better with a slightly warmer colour, and I also agree that the I colour suits the vintage cut. Crisp, higher colours do seem to be more suited to the flashy brilliance of the MRB, as you said. Although I have some D/E/F/ stones for pendants and earrings, I'm quite glad to have an I colour ring because I feel there is more to "watch", between the colours and the facets.

Again, congratulations! Are you going to name your diamond? My new earrings are entitled the Sussex Studs! Like The Queen. Her diamond and pearl earrings that she wears all the time are officially called the Ladies of Devonshire.

Well I sort of think kite set pink sapphire are ornate so I think you will be fine with a Van Craeynest. Would it be yellow gold? I know most people put all the effort into the diamond but for me it is the setting! I'm soo excitied to see what you do with this!!! I'm practically seal clapping at my computer with enthusiastic thoughts!

Also off topic but I bought my tickets to LAS finally! DH will be home so I'm 100% going to be there! I can't wait for our date night with skippy!

Yay!!! Very excited to hear you got your tickets!!!! I'll be doing platinum no matter what it is! VC only had a yg sample setting when they sent me one to look at. I think because my Beaudry rings are antique and somewhat ornate, I want to be careful not to overdo things with having too much on both hands. It is hard to figure out when I can't try rings on! You are welcome to make suggestions!

I'm totally late to this party, but WOW. It is absolutely STUNNING! I have to echo everyone else-this is the best iteration of the AVR by far! And the size is perfection on you! It sounds like this is already a keeper for you, but add my vote to the "Yes" pile! I can't wait to see it set!
