Sotheby’s Geneva to auction a 10.99 carat pink diamond on May 17

Another exceptional pink diamond will be auctioned at Sotheby’s Magnificent and Noble Jewels Sale in Geneva on May 17. The 10.99 carat fancy intense pink diamond is estimated to sell for $9-$16 million. The emerald cut VS1 clarity pink diamond has been in private collection for over 30 years. The character of this diamond is similar to another remarkable fancy intense pink diamond, the 24.78 carat Graff Pink, which sold at Sotheby’s for $46 million last November. Both pink diamonds were assessed as a rare Type IIa, which represent less than 2% of diamonds worldwide.

How well with this pink diamond do at auction? This sale follows the auction of a 10.09 carat fancy vivid purple-pink diamond, which failed to sell at Christie’s on April 12. The coveted emerald cut of the 10.99 pink (shown above) and the more pure pink hue may help this one achieve its selling estimate. We will wait and see.
