Do you give more credence to a poster if you feel they have a good reputation here? Depends. Some people are so sweet and kind. Others know a lot about certain topcis (diamonds, colored gemstones, etc.)

Hey, Marcy...when I think of you, I think of 2 major things...your incredible weight loss story and your love for gemstones. You are one of the kindest Pricescopers I know!

I am really not sure. I know that I am known for my profession, just like in the real world, and my posts can kind of sound really intellectual at times, I don't mean to do that, but my BF says that is how I come across in real life. I am sure that I am also known for being a colored-stone lover. I am not really sure how I am perceived otherwise. I try to choose my words carefully when I post, I am not the most articulate person, and often find myself editing my posts. I would not say I am conscious of maintain my reputation, because I don't really know what it is. But I am careful not to post anything that would give me a reputation of being inconsiderate, or rude.

As for the last question, if I know a poster has been around for awhile, and knows what they are talking about, I will pay a little more attention when it comes to jewelry advice. But for all the non-jewelry stuff, I think everyone's opinion and viewpoint are equally valuable.

I agree with Tacori that there is a very nice group of people on PS! I can openly admit that I am addicted!

I personally doubt I have any type of reputation. I haven''t been actively posted that long. Funny (really ridiculous) story: I joined and then forgot I joined and continued to lurk for TWO YEARS before I tried to join again at which point I couldn''t because I already had an account and PS admin had to email me my username and password. Silly. Anyway, I mostly hang out in the mommies thread. I do dabble here and there in other areas and think I''m nice!

Interestingly, although I disagree with your assertion about yourself, I don''t think that I have a rep either and tend to feel much the same as you ... lost in the shuffle.

It is of the utmost importance for me to try to be respectful so I try to be super conscious of how my "text" might be interpreted without benefit of body language or intonation.

I''m not sure if I have a reputation at all or if people think of anything in particular when they read my posts.

I definitely conscious of being nice/friendly/positive/gracious etc when I post especially when I ask for advice. People here are so generous with their advice and time and I am grateful for that. Sometimes it even makes me feel guilty knowing that I lurk as much as I do. I''ll try to be better!!

I definitely give more credence to certain posters (yep - I''ll say it) because I feel like I ''know'' certain posters and have the sense whether they have similar style/outlook etc. However, I appreciate the input I receive from other posters as well because it often gives me a different perspective that I hadn''t thought of. I do remember earlier on when I posted pictures of my dress/ring etc and I''d get sooo excited when certain regulars would reply (Jcrow, Gingerbcookie, Ellen, etc).

I''m not certain I have a reputation on PS, so I don''t think there''s too much of an image to worry about ruining when I post, lol! I''m very much myself on PS, and so the tone of my posts has changed as I''ve become more confident IRL.

I think we all form opinions of other posters, and respond to them much like we would IRL. There are some posters that I tend to avoid and some that I enjoy very much. I''ve learned a lot about life, miracles (and Monster killing, LS), and grief. Some posters have touched me and changed me more than they may ever know, and there is one in particular whose return I am waiting for. Obviously these posters hold greater sway with me than the average poster. However, I try very hard to deal with threads on a case-by-case basis (unless information from prior threads becomes relevant).

Well, this is a very self conscious thread, and I'm sure I'm self conscious enough generally, anyway.

I think certain writers are tiered.

At a top level, I think we can place, in some cases for reason known, in others for reasons not...John Q, Garry, Richard, Paul, Denver, Harriet...certainly others will fall into these parts. I suppose we don't see too much stepping out (do we of either Andrey or even Ali, but Leonid, Ana, Whitediamonds, though before my time)....old & new, always distinctive

I'm not sure how that maintaining part would work. That is...the more you're here...the greater likelihood that, for a given next post, you'll be like that, too. Trying to keep up with an image of yourself seems like too much work. Best to be yourself all the time, right?
