Before I stumbled upon PriceScope, I thought I was being incredibly unique, but now I'm not so sure! When my boyfriend and I started talking about getting married, I decided I'd rather have a colored stone rather than a traditional diamond. I love stones that are the color of a good blanc de noirs... pinker than a true champagne, more of a warm blush. I'v always thought morganite was pretty, but wanted something with a little more sparkle. After doing my research I also realized I needed something harder, so I've been focusing my search on spinels and sapphires, although sapphires are likely out of my price range (looking at spending $100-500 on the center stone)
Inspiration:

I'm hoping to find a cushion cut around 2ct, maybe 8-9mm, but I've also noticed a sharp increase in price over 2ct so I'm fine if it's a bit below that. I'm also open to an oval or round stone, but don't particularly love pears or marquise cuts for an engagement ring. I'm not really in a hurry, since we actually decided to elope in a couple weeks, so I guess this is more of a post-engagement ring? For the ceremony and till I get my "real" ring, I'm using a beautiful 1920s family ring I usually wear on my right hand, with a 1/3ct diamond and lovely pave.
I've checked the online inventory of everyone listed in the preferred vendors post, but no one had something that looked just right. Gemfix still has that unbelievable pale "Padparadscha" sapphire, but it's too far outside my budget to even consider. They also have a tourmaline that's beautiful and sparkly, but a might be a little to pale, and too soft to be an every day ring.

This etsy ring looks lovely, but it's morganite. I'd be very interested in something similar with a more durable stone with a bit more sparkle.

There was a spinel that caught my eye on Litnon when I first started looking... I thought it was beautiful although it was a bit more lilac than I had originally planned. Unfortunately it sold while I was debating, so I never got a look at it in person!

So..... now for the questions. Am I on the right track? Is there anything else I should be doing? I've thought about reaching out to a couple vendors to see if they have inventory that isn't online, or things that might be cut soon, but I wasn't sure what the protocol was for that, since this is all pretty new to me. Also, there's an Intergem show down in San Mateo next month that I could go to. Would that be a good move, or am I likely to end up with pockets full of stones that aren't what I'm looking for, but were too pretty to pass up?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
