Yet another search for a peachy pink stone for my e-ring

Before I stumbled upon PriceScope, I thought I was being incredibly unique, but now I'm not so sure! When my boyfriend and I started talking about getting married, I decided I'd rather have a colored stone rather than a traditional diamond. I love stones that are the color of a good blanc de noirs... pinker than a true champagne, more of a warm blush. I'v always thought morganite was pretty, but wanted something with a little more sparkle. After doing my research I also realized I needed something harder, so I've been focusing my search on spinels and sapphires, although sapphires are likely out of my price range (looking at spending $100-500 on the center stone)

Inspiration:

I'm hoping to find a cushion cut around 2ct, maybe 8-9mm, but I've also noticed a sharp increase in price over 2ct so I'm fine if it's a bit below that. I'm also open to an oval or round stone, but don't particularly love pears or marquise cuts for an engagement ring. I'm not really in a hurry, since we actually decided to elope in a couple weeks, so I guess this is more of a post-engagement ring? For the ceremony and till I get my "real" ring, I'm using a beautiful 1920s family ring I usually wear on my right hand, with a 1/3ct diamond and lovely pave.

I've checked the online inventory of everyone listed in the preferred vendors post, but no one had something that looked just right. Gemfix still has that unbelievable pale "Padparadscha" sapphire, but it's too far outside my budget to even consider. They also have a tourmaline that's beautiful and sparkly, but a might be a little to pale, and too soft to be an every day ring.

tourmaline_rp_1074_a.jpg

This etsy ring looks lovely, but it's morganite. I'd be very interested in something similar with a more durable stone with a bit more sparkle.

There was a spinel that caught my eye on Litnon when I first started looking... I thought it was beautiful although it was a bit more lilac than I had originally planned. Unfortunately it sold while I was debating, so I never got a look at it in person!

36815.jpg

So..... now for the questions. Am I on the right track? Is there anything else I should be doing? I've thought about reaching out to a couple vendors to see if they have inventory that isn't online, or things that might be cut soon, but I wasn't sure what the protocol was for that, since this is all pretty new to me. Also, there's an Intergem show down in San Mateo next month that I could go to. Would that be a good move, or am I likely to end up with pockets full of stones that aren't what I'm looking for, but were too pretty to pass up?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

All I can say is, good luck! I've been looking for the same thing on and off for almost a year - the few I've happened upon have been more than $2k. I love morganite and have been happy with my morganite e-ring, but knowing it probably won't last forever has had me on the lookout for a bigger, better, more durable stone of a similar colour. I'm not in the market to buy an expensive stone at the moment but I can tell you I haven't seen a whole lot!

I've eyed that Gemfix tourmaline many times - I think it would be beautiful and showy in a ring.

Rogerio on Etsy has a peach sapphire, it is oval and just over $1k. Based on what I've seen around, it seems a reasonable price for a precision cut stone that size, though it's hard to say for sure since the pictures aren't the best. I'm sure he'd be willing to provide additional pictures for you to get a better look.

Durable stones of this colour are not easy to find. Since you mentioned spinel - I haven't seen one that was pink and pale enough for what I've been looking for.

However, knowing it might take a while, perhaps you can use that time to put extra money aside and increase your budget - I think if morganite is off the table, you'll have a hard time finding what you want under $500.

I hope others here can help you find something!

Oh! I should add - if you like the colour of Rogerio's sapphire, you could contact him to see if he has, or could get more, rough. Either way I think you'd be looking at at least $1k for 2cts, but you'd be able to get the cut/shape you want.

I'm so excited to see this thread! One of my favorite rings on this site is a peachy emerald cut diamond engagement ring set in Rose gold. I absolutely love the look of pink or peachy stones in Rose gold. I do not recommend morganite for an every day ring; I think it would be best to go with something harder--you are definitely right to look for something a little tougher.

Have you checked out Gemcal? Occasionally I see peach-ish colored gems in their inventory, but it seems they don't have much listed right now. I recommend sending them an email and asking if they have anything in the color range you're looking for. Here's an oval "walnut" colored spinel they have listed that I think would look great in rose gold, and has that sort of champagne-peach color:

http://gemcal.com/walnut-color-spinel-cushion-3-09-cts-1754-sl

Laurakayp posted a thread awhile back about a blush colored spinel she purchased from them:

Hope this helps, and good luck! :)

This one in the pic?

Also, OP, these aren't exactly what you're looking for, but interesting none-the-less!

Have you considered Imperial Topaz? You can vary the pink/peach factor, and they are still pretty durable. Stronger than the beryl option, but more delicate than corundum.

Here are some in your price range, and one that is a bit higher.

You can vary the hue to the exact one and tone that you seek!

WOW! Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions! I really do appreciate the advice. I think I should definitely contact Rodrigo, since he has quite a few things that are close to what I want.

- The "Peach Orange Sapphire" is gorgeous, but definitely much more saturated than I want for this ring. I think I want something a could shades lighter than rose gold, so that it still looks pretty neutral. The price is really encouraging though, and makes me think I'm not completely off base.

http://www.etsy.com/listing/155444786/peach-orange-sapphire-cushion-shape-fine

- The "Soft Rosy Pink Spinel" is a little cool/icy. I have really warm olive skin, so cool pastels aren't the best on me. Also, is there something a little weird about the cut? On the first and last pics it looks like there's a big blank space. Is that a window? I'm completely new to evaluating stones online, so I'm still trying to learn what to look for in photos.

http://www.etsy.com/listing/158627673/soft-rosy-pink-spinel-square-cushion

- The "Champagne Peach Sapphire" is pretty fantastic! A little above what I had budgeted, but I'm pretty tempted. On average, how easy are returns? Would I be on the hook for shipping both ways?

The JuliaB ones are interesting too, but all a little smaller and darker than I was hoping for.

I actually like the Spectral "SpinelPadOval1_54ct" a lot. What are the chances it'll be that color in hand? I'm a little worried it would be darker without the fancy camera setup.

The spinel that Laurakayp got from Gemcal is BEAUTIFUL! I will definitely have to keep an eye on their inventory.

The gisellemering ring is also stunning. It actually makes me think I might want to start looking at more champagne colored stone, since I really really like that one.

I hadn't been considering imperial topaz, but will start looking now! I don't know much about it; is it as hard/sparkly as the other stones I've been looking at? Are there any downsides?

Thanks again to everyone who responded!! I'll keep you posted as my search continued. I also had a little cash sitting in my paypal account, so I decided as a belated bday present to myself, I'd spend it on some inexpensive pretty things on ebay to get a better idea of what various sizes and shapes look like. So I'll post pics as those come in!

If it were me, I would shy away from topaz because its a softer, more easily damaged stone and, even more importantly, it has less sparkle. If it helps at all, the pattern I see in the stones that you seem to gravitate towards is that they all seem to have a brown component to them. From time to time, I have seen light pinky "champagne" spinels sold on ebay within your budgeted amount, so I might keep my eye out for one. Cut will be critical with a stone of this color in order to make it sparkle and pop.

I actually have a 1.85 carat spinel that could be that stone's twin except mine is less grey. It is a bit lilac in tone. If you are interested let me know. That gem has been sitting in my gem box along with other spinels.

Another suggestion (and forgive me if it has been posted because I haven't read through all the replies) is a Malaia garnet. I had a really sweet pink one that shifted to peach but it was not my thing so I returned it.

I've always loved it too! Here is another pic. I remember she wanted "bandaid" colored. Lol! I love this ring.

Not to semi-threadjack, but has anyone seen a "walnut" colored spinel from gemcal IRL? I'm always intrigued, but I really have no idea what "walnut" colored means!

I was curious about that too, and did a search. I found TreenBean mentioned in this one thread that she purchased a pair from Gemcal described as "walnut colored" (hope she chimes in) she said they were orangey-pink: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/dusty-rose-spinel.163561/

There was also a photo she posted in another thread:

Jeff Davies just posted a peach/pink sapphire that is a bit darker than the stones you were looking at, but does remind me of the inspiration champagne. I think it is a good price, slightly above your range, but I'd pay a little extra to have him to send it to AIGS before shipping it out to verify that it is unheated.

I was just about to post a thread about this as well! I, too, am looking for a peachy sapphire. We've been considering diamond e-rings, but I first fell in love with the ring of an acquaintance which was a peachy/pink sapphire in a halo rose gold setting and I think it'll be more budget friendly. I'm definitely keeping my eyes peeled for a cushion cut sapphire in the 1.2-2 carat range. I'm having a hard time, however, finding rose gold halo settings. Any suggestions for a setting once I find that perfect stone?

Here's a photo of a Tajikistan spinel. Not sure if its the color you're looking for (it's not for sale), but it might give you some other color ideas in the pink/peachy range.

Here's another Tajik spinel from Peter Torraca, but I don't think it's available, but it's lighter in tone than the oval.
