Hi all I'm new here but have been doing a lot of reading and want to thank all of you for helping get up to speed with how the diamond market works.

However I'm wanting to know why the big price difference between theses almost exact same diamonds(maybe not same and I'm overlooking something)

#1 - http://www.bluenile.com/_LD03539072 - $972

#2 - http://www.bluenile.com/_LD03754012 - $1302

Why the price difference besides the small size difference?

I have seen similar situations on other sites also.
Diamonds which to me (a noob) look almost the same
but have big price differences.

One place to start is withthe HCA tool

Lower is better

Cheaper one = HCA 3.8
Light Return Very Good
Fire Good
Scintillation Good
Spread Very Good

More expensive one has HCA
Light Return Excellent
Fire Excellent
Scintillation Excellent
Spread Very Good

okay interesting thanks for the heads up on this!! I do see the HCA calc gives some ratings that make the diamond now seem different to me,

To simplify. One is better cut than the other. And CUT is king.

So @gypsy, even though the GIA and BN reports both of these as cut = "IDEAL" or "EXCELLENT" the HCA actually gives a better representation of the cut? Is that what you are saying?

Thanks for the help!

BN's 'ideal" is largely meaningless. What criteria is it based on.

As for the HCA and GIA: there are lots of links on this page that will help you understand it all better. https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds

Take some time, acquire some subject matter knowledge before you spend thousands. And get yourself educated on your purchase.
