Those pawn shops and thrift stores don't stand a chance against you, @stracci2000! Nothing slips past you. :D Those are beautiful finds!

That mokume gane ring has been in the pawn shop case for a year. But I recently watched a video of how that process is done, and it is fascinating! So I decided I needed that ring. Plus, they were having a 30% off sale!

The Zuni ring was face down in the case at the thrift store so nobody was noticing it. Lucky for me, I guess! I always bug them to open up the case for me, they probably think I'm annoying.

While this is probably better suited to the SMTB latest jewelry purchases thread, this is probably of little interest there not being an expensive piece.

Needed a pick me up, at this point I’ve worked eight days in a row, retail at the holidays is crazy brutal. Anyways I found this pretty pink ring on Etsy, less than $175 all in and it’s in amazing shape. Looks to be a JR Wood piece as well although they don’t seem to make many colored stone solitaires.

I love it! That raspberry color is so rich!
It looks like the stone is large?
I love this style of setting, with the tiny round hole under the basket. 1910s?
You always find beautiful pieces, Yada.

Thanks @stracci2000, I thought I commented on your two new rings but apparently not. I’m glad you were able to make the mokume gane ring yours. I’ll have to look up the video on how they’re made. The Zuni ring is cool too, you have such great luck at your pawn shops out there.

I’m not sure how big this stone is but it looks to be a good size to appreciate the color. I’ll wear it on the left hand and move the anniversary ring to the right when I wear it. If the color is around the same as the recently acquired eternity band, that would be awesome.

Could you wear both rings together?
The color combo would be stunning!!

Hmmm not sure, I’ll try it out when it gets here.

Also no more complaining about having too much, obviously I’m more of a magpie than I thought

Listen. We love jewelry. It's what makes us happy. I want to be happy.
I've come to realize that I need to buy things that I love (within reason), instead of denying myself.
If the price is right, and you love it, why not?
One day you can give all the excess to your future DIL

I love the color of that stone, and the simplicity of the setting. Do you think you'll be able to find out any details on the gemstone?

@rungirl, thanks, I don’t have a lot of color in my collection so trying to branch out a bit. I’m assuming it’s a lab stone, I’m not going to have it tested but maybe I’ll have a look under our microscope.

I had a shower thought…maybe it’s tourmaline, that would be neat.

Here she is! I took a few different pictures in different lighting. There is an inscription on the inside but no date sadly.

I think it might be tourmaline, the last pic is in direct sun, not the prettiest but shows the wear. Obviously very old, I’m amazed it’s in as good of condition as it is. It is stamped for 14k and the maker’s mark for JR Wood =)2

Wow! I don’t have any tourmalines and I didn’t know they could be that vivid. It glows and it’s the Pantone color of the year too!!

Thank you @88_star @CaseyLouLou and @stracci2000

I had no idea this was the color of year, that’s pretty cool. It could just be a lab stone of course but in any event, it is a lovely color and I needed a little color.

We were pawn shopping today and there was just nothing out there. The only even slightly interesting thing was a Crown of Light diamond ring. I was tempted to ask to see it because I’ve never seen one in person but wasn’t motivated enough lol!

Big finds for today…underwear and light bulbs. The excitement from today’s purchases is overwhelming

Crown of Light.......that's a new one on me!
This is the first I've heard of it.
I briefly looked it up just now.

I guess they really aren’t great diamonds and overpriced if you buy them on a cruise. I have never come across one in a pawn shop and it did have all the papers with it too. Not sure how big the diamond was but they were asking $2600

I love it and the mounting is in fantastic shape! I have a super soft spot for this era. It very well could be tourmaline, but if it is a synthetic ruby- it's one of the good ones. Anyway, it's pinky red and I love anything in the reds. Great find!

Yeah I remember getting the sales pitch at one of the stores on a port during a cruise several years ago. I'm sure it's the same with all branded cuts but way more expensive per carat than a standard well cut MRB. 90 facets per a quick google search and appears the crown is much higher (hence the name) than standard crown angles.

Aw thanks @ItsMainelyYou, you are so sweet. I know what you mean though about the lab stones, a lot of them are a bubblegum Barbie pink. Nothing wrong with that but I was looking for a richer, deeper color. I really wish it had a date, obviously it was someone’s special ring because it has an inscription and they took super good care of it.

@Daisys and Diamonds, I know the ring you speak of and even if it is glass, it’s a beautiful ring.

@88_star, I can’t imagine how much they ask for these diamonds at these ports. The average person is probably ripe for picking, not knowledgeable about diamonds and in vacation mode. Like the perfect storm to get taken advantage of :(2

This was hauled all the way up from my hubby’s basement! When we were decorating for Christmas I noticed two rather decrepit looking metal candlesticks in one of hubby’s many boxes of Christmas decorations. They looked like cheap old drugstore variety decorations, so I left them in the box and they went back to the basement - which is the same thing that’s apparently happened for as long as my husband has owned them. Fast forward to today as we were taking the decorations down. I pulled the candlesticks out of the cardboard box and suggested we donate them to Goodwill. You’d have thought I was suggesting that we throw away the family photos or something! My husband isn’t real sure where these candlesticks came from - though he thinks they might have belonged to his grandparents - but he has suddenly developed a deep emotional attachment to them! He wouldn’t even put them in the Christmas decor box to go back into the basement - instead, he got to work polishing them.

What can I say? They cleaned up real good! Here they are, one polished and one as we found them:

1FDB7646-52CA-47A1-A1C5-DC58401BE383.jpeg

Even polished up nicely they’re not really my style, but I guess I may as well get used to them. ;)2 And they’ll look nice come next Christmas, with some red candles and maybe a bow or two!

Arguably, I read too many horror and mystery novels but I want a set of brain buster candlesticks. I don't even have anywhere to put them, but I'd keep them. You know, just in case I have a dramatic showdown. "It could happen!"

VRBeauty, I think they are keepers---check it out!
These are your candlesticks! Look at the asking price!

And another. I would totally believe this Cowan's description that they are 19th century. Wes Cowan is an appraiser on the Antiques Roadshow.
