I think if I could get to sleep I would be fine, I don''t wake up as much as I cannot get to sleep at all...

My son came in second out of 40 or so kids, his best time, 5:32 for the mile...he was in the lead til the end but is not the best sprinter so the kid who had been behind him, letting my son take the wind for him, sprinted past and just beat him...but it was their first meet all season and I was so proud of him!
WOW!!! He''s really fast! My son has been running the mile (just in PE - not running club) and he came in first at 6 min. Most of the other kids were well behind him. Good for you for having your kids so active. Fitness is so important.

He is, and is likely to only improve. This is just natural, no real training as of yet. He wanted to break 6 last season and he did it the next race. He told me the night before this meet he would beat his best time, 5:42. He did. He is amazingly determined and focused, OCD does have a benefit here since it makes him set his sights on something and aim to get it. It does make me nuts when it is about a guitar or something, but this goal is fine!

Diagem, Bigler basic algebra?
Basic Algebra yes..., Bigler..., sounds familiar....

I was seated next to N.C. on his left...

So was I, he was a "C" and I was a "B"...so I recall being in the first seat in the second or third row from the door, and, when he showed up, he was to my right in the first seat of that row. Do you know who I am? You are being awfully mysterious...

Sorry..., but no, I dont know who you are!
And I am not trying to be "awefully" mysterious... just desire to stay anonimous at this time...

I re-call him sitting second row on the window-side...

I can''t decide which would be more thrilling...having sat near Nicholas Cage, or the ever mysterious DiaGem!!

LOL LOL LOL. I agree with you Widget.

Linda

I think we were closer to the door, it went alaphbetically so the first seat in the first row, closest to the door would have been an A if there were any people with a last name that started with A, and then behind that person how every many seats back, and then I recall being in the first seat of the second or third row...he was to my right. The windows would have been to my right if I were facing the board, and Bigler''s desk was in the right corner by the board, sort of catty corner so he could view the entire room...did your last name start with A or B?

DF,

I lost you...
No, my L. name does not start with those letters...

Just rambling that we were seated alphabetically. My maiden name started with a B and his with a C so we were near each other...

DF I just found this thread. I am sorry you are having so much difficulty with your sleep. You can try melatonin, but maybe you can induce your system to produce the melatonin for you. Here are some ideas for you which may require a fair amount of self discipline:

When you wake up in the morning, go out into the sunlight and spend some good amount of time looking at the bright daylite (no I don't mean stare at the sun, but you get me here, right?
1.gif
). Take a look at how much caffeine you are consuming from all sources, including chocolate and teas. Cut it back, way back, to nothing if you can manage it.

When you are getting ready to go to sleep have a ritual. Included in this will be no late night TV or internet! Yes, I know, difficult, but the monitors throw off a lot of bright light. It may over stimulate you before bed. Try and turn down the contrast on your computer monitor. You may be surprised how bright that thing can be and how much you can lower the contrast and still see it easily.

Eat your last meal at least 3 hours before you sleep and don't drink liquids less than a hour before bed. Examine how bright your bedroom is. Blackout is the best thing for your bedroom, so make sure your blinds and curtains are very effective. You can try a warm bath 45 mins or so before you sleep or a book or what ever relaxes you. You can also try taking an aspirin if you can take aspirin.

I have heard regimes that are very strict about if you should awaken during the night and request that you do not turn on any lights, not even to go to the bathroom. This is b/c melatonin is only produced in the dark and the light will stop your body producing it.

Maybe if you try some of these techniques for a few days you might get some relief. Just thinking about it is making me sleepy now! Good luck to you and I hope your sleep improves!

Beacon, thanks so much for the advice. I have tried a routine and find that I am just a night clock type, hard with kids, but I have trained my kids to sleep late when possible!
1.gif
But those suggestions are all great and if I get tired enough I may have to try them again...

I just love the quiet and privacy late at night, and it is hard to give up. I feel I tried so many things, giving up caffeine and exercising earlier and not watching tv late etc, and taking hot baths...pills have limited effect on me, and I just hate to take them and not be able to hear my kids if need be...I do find, interestingly, I sleep better on vacation when our schedule is a bit less hectic and all the kids are mellow from having a good time...makes it easier to relax. I am someone whose mind wanders quite a bit in the wee hours, I cannot just turn it off easily!

My son ran again today and beat his own PR, running a 5:33 mile and 2:32 half mile. I am so proud of him, he wants to break 5 minutes, and has knocked a lot of time off this season already, but I want him not to pressure himself too much. He does have a tendency to do so, he is very driven that way...he was made a captain on the team, and in high school will be on varsity in 9th grade which is not that common at his school, usually upperclassmen only make varsity. He will have big competetion then, there is a tenth or eleventh grader who runs a 4:30 something mile, he is so fast...but I am proud of my son for having goals and trying to achieve them. It is nice that he has found something that really makes him happy athletically. Hubby played soccer and none of my kids are that interested in it at all, which disappoints hubby but I would never push them.

Oops. I must be tired, it was a 5:25...in the pouring rain on a slippery track no less, which I cannot imagine dealing with! I am so tired I am not thinking too clearly!

okay, I take my tests end of May, July and August. I posted here to answer your question from the LV thread

I am counting on the DF dust. heehehe
Thanks for asking

I will dance some pass test dances for you then!

I am sure, just from what I know of you here, that you will ace them. So stay focused but try not to worry too much!!!

I always did well on my grad school tests but never felt prepared going in, though I always wanted to get them over with!

Caroline,
You are such a sweetheart; someday I do have to meet you in real life. You and Lisa are precious! You both have the best hearts.
12.gif
Thanks for the encouragement. I am sure your sons think you are the best mom ever! I love that you go cheer them on at their track meets!!

Also, I love all the advice you give when I read your posts; it is alway so helpful and insightful

Awww, Skippy, that is so nice! I try to be a good mom and be helpful, of course I do not always suceed but I do try!

I think you have to come east and hang with me and Lisa. We have been trying like the dickens to get a Philly get together going again, not having a ton of luck but you never know!

Hubby home sick, crazy day tomorrow, trying to get the older kids packed for camp and where am I? Here. FInally the house is quiet and this is my time!!!

DF how are you? I feel like I haven''t talked to you in ages! How are the kiddos? Out of school? Any fun family trips planned?

That is so sweet of you. How are you and hubby doing since his mom passed? I was thinking about it. I also love your new avatar, it totally captures your essence!

We just got the big boys off to 8 weeks of sleep away camp. The house is oddly quiet with just my little guy and Miss Maya. My oldest finished middle school, amazing report card, he worked hard and really got it together so well. Ran a 5.09 mile and came in second in the township track meet with his personal best, had two or three concerts with the guitar. Overall doing so well. My middle is my sweet dreamer, loves golf and skiing and surfing (his version) and skateboarding. Plays drums really well. I had them in a rock camp the week before sleep away, and they were in groups, chose songs, and had a concert in a park in downtown Philly. My oldest has such stage presence, he took the mike and was so great up there. My munchkin is in day camp here at his school campus. He is just sweet and funny but a tad spoiled, and I know he will miss his brothers a lot this summer.

We rented a house on the beach at the Jersey shore and plan to spend a ton of time there this summer. Pool time, walks with Maya, bar be ques, should be nice, and we will have guests on a lot of the weekends. We will also spend a few days in Nantucket to look at a couple of homes and maybe see about a rental for the month of August next year. (hubby likes to plan well in advance).

How is your studying coming?

DF - which town did you rent in Jersey? My parents live down there...although it''s nice to visit, the traffic is definitely something I could do without!!

We rent in Stone Harbor and we go in the 55 which is much better overall, I avoid the Garden State Pkwy and the A/C expressway...

Diamondfan,
I can see the love/admiration for your boys in your post! I love that; what a wonderful mom. They sounds so well rounded and loved very much! I bet they are very handsome too. I am glad your youngest is keeping you company while the others are at camp.

Hubby is hanging in there. Studying is good. Just doing it everyday.

Wow, that is wonderful you are renting a beach house! I love spending time listening to the ocean; it is so relaxing. How cute your hubby is ready to start planning for next year's rental; what a great guy! Sounds like you are going to have a lovely time w/family. I hope you get to have several clam bakes. My SIL lives in Savannah, GA and she makes Low Country Boil and I am in heaven whenever I go out there. I wish we lived by the ocean so we could get that really fresh seafood you get out there.

I posted here because I felt like I had bumped into you lately and wanted just to say 'hi.'

Oh - nice! My parents are all the way up in Spring Lake Heights. I''m coming from Central Jersey, all of my choices are bad!

Have fun this summer!!!

I have heard of Spring Lake. We live outside of Philly and the house is about 90 miles for us. Not too bad. We really enjoy it down there.

What are your favorite movies? What is your favorite tv show? Tell us more! You are so much fun!!!

What is your favorite restaurant in Philly?

Well, I love the movies so much and go to a lot of them. All time favorites are Gone with the Wind (loved the book too) and I also love Legally Blonde, Same time Next Year, Pretty Woman, Cinema Paradiso, Clueless, Casablanca, This is Spinal Tap, Harold and Maude, I could go on since I really love movies. I also love to read, anything by Janet Evanovich, Susan Isaacs...I like heavy books sometimes but usually like humorous books or mysteries. I also favor comedies when I go to the movies, though of course love a movie that is thought provoking like Schindler''s List, but find I need some humor to make things light and easy. I love to read and will reread books, if I do not have any good ones. I also love biographies and autobiographies. Just finished a couple on Grace Kelly who is from Philadelphia so I thought it was interesting to read about her.

You are so kind, I just love the warmth and sparkle that comes from you in your posts. You must be a great friend to spend time with, up and fun and compassionate. We Philly PS''ers would love you to come for a visit!!!

DF,
Oh, I am so GLAD I asked!!! I love some of the same movies! In fact it is funny because I just watched Legally Blond last weekend; that movie is so cute! I keep telling hubby we need to rent Gone w/the Wind. I have never seen it, can you believe that! I loved Cinema Paradiso too; that movie I haven't seen in a couple of years, I think. ETA: I love going to the movies too. I am trying to get a friend to see that scary movie 1804 w/me.

I love Janet Evanovich, Lula is so funny. She can't stop eating McDonald's and she is always on a diet plus I like the bounty hunter named "Stephanie Plum." hehehe Have you read the newest book that just came out? I haven't I probably will a little later. I wonder what happens to Stephanie and her 2 heartthrobs.

Grace Kelly is so beautiful! I didn't know she was from Philly.

I would love to go see you, Madam and Lisa! I told hubby maybe when he has to go out to work in DC I could fly to Philly and then catch the train down to DC. Maybe someday! That would be so much fun; I would love love love to meet you guys! That would be such a treat. hehehe
9.gif
I feel the same about you guys too! You, Madam B and Lisa are so wonderful

Caroline, didn''t want to mess up the posts in the thread in hangout about saying something nice about the above poster, so I wanted to respond to you here! Thanks so much for your quick thinking and noticing SDL and I were posting at similar times. Your compliment to me was very sweet and I really enjoyed reading it, you made me smile once again!

Hope your summer is going well with your sons away at camp...how''s miss Maya doing these days? (Maybe I should re-read the last pages of your thread here to find out, lol!)
